Derby !
CW on Sky saying we couldnt compete with the wages or the fee !

So where do we look now for a striker as its clear that what we have isnt good enough
to last the season.? Is there a bid for a another striker that was mentioned recently ?
Have you just been defrosted, or summat :)

So we’ve had a bid “on the table” for weeks and we never thought to do some digging on whether we can actually afford him if it does get accepted? That’s rather annoying with 3 days remaining.

It would be annoying if that were the case. Which it isn't.

Surely to God we will have known from the start exactly what Waghorn's demands were likely to be and that we weren't likely to be the only club in for him.

So once again, we've needlessly wasted a stupid amount of time on an ultimately unattainable target.

It's what we do best. Top work United.

We wouldn't have known what wages we were up against until derby et al made a firm offer which one now has and it's been accepted.

What a waste of time.

If our wage budget is upper League one/lower level championship, then it would appear that these are the type of players we will inevitably end up with.

Not really - his personal terms will change once they knew 3 people were interested and bidding. Then it’s a game of seeing whole go highest for him and his agent.

If boro/derby were sniffing around but never bid I’m sure we’d have been able to get him in here - we would have offered him a large wage increase from Ipswich I’m sure.

‘Couldn’t agree terms’ I read as wouldn’t match that offered by derby

I hope they can't shift Vydra. They'll be in a world of shit then

Problem is they won't, FA or EFL or whoever it is in charge of the sanctions are spineless. Only need to look at QPR or Bournemouth as examples. They'll fine Derby £10 million & call it quits, it's a joke.

Do you really think Wilder has been sat there twiddling his thumbs waiting to see if our offer had been accepted? He said a while back that we'd moved on to two other targets.

I was angry at first at this news... but do you know what, fuck him!... get Billy up front cos he’s the only player I can think of that actually gives a shit about this club! Furthermore he knows where the onion bag is! UTB

We were basically waiting for Waghorn on a 'just in case' basis. Just in case the richer clubs withdrew their interest.

We will have made other moves/enquiries in the meantime but could some of them have been put off in the hope we get Waghorn, who was presumably the preferred target?

As a 'financial adviser' this will be an easy one for you - where does the money come from to 'pay the wages necessary'?
But then, you won't be aware of the Bryan Robson era will you?

Really, you're going to argue the toss about wanting better players
All this club has done for 100 years is moan and whinge about money and not being able to compete with others.

They moaned and whinged about money and not being able to compete with others before money even became a massive factor in football.

I can still remember my Grandad when I decided I was going to be a United fan, he said "don't follow that shower, they'll never achieve anything". That was 50 years ago and how right he was. Even he'd not seen us win owt. And even he used to say, "All they do is moan about money while everybody else just gets on with it"

So yes, I'll agree with you. The club has been left so far behind due to it's lack of bottle to buy big and sell bigger and re-invest properly that to try to compete now is just pointless and will lead to destruction.

The Premier League was too rich for us so our place was in the Championship
Now the Championship is too rich for us as well

What a load of bollocks. Lose one game and all of a sudden none of the team or staff care about the club?!

Get a grip man

Waghorn's crap anyway. 28 and only just come on the radar after a couple of "decent" seasons. Young and hungry is what we need.

It’s not just our club, the money in football these days unfortunately means there’s no real commitment to anyone... apart from home grown fans... if you can name me one other player (I do believe Wilder cares by the way I never said he didn’t) who is a true blade I’ll retract my comment and stow my tits... with gusto!

I think our players are extremely committed to doing well for us, but something has disappeared from our care free style.
Last season we didn't care who it was we were playing, we just went into each game trying to put our opponents on the back foot and not take our boot of their throat until they were finished

Then something happened (I know Coutts injury was tragic)
But it was more than that, Coutts could have been replaced, it's not like he's the irreplaceable Messi

Something happened that caused our players to start thinking more cautiously and we've not been able to get back to what we were doing successfully since.

We got caught on the break a few times mostly due to defensive errors and the manger became more cautious and the players started to look for the safe option

We are still getting caught out the same way now except we don't create as much as we did before

So you didn't see any of the several games last season when we went for the win but got done by the sucker punch and lost?
Or notice the reaction on here?

People involved at the club in any capacity don’t have to be ‘true blades’ in order to show care and commitment.

In the current group I see some players falling short on ability but I don’t see anyone who gives off the impression they don’t care or are not committed to the cause.

I’m convinced if any of the staff or players didn’t care about the club then Wilder would sniff them out and get shot of them straight away.

Yes, and some of them were hard to take. But most fans will accept a defeat if the team has done all it can to win. The manner of defeat is more important than the defeat itself
That team last year was three top quality players short, if we'd got them we may still not have gone up, but they'd be here now for another go at it. But instead we look slow and disjointed like we finished last season.

I'm hoping it was just a tactical error by Wilder, not starting with Duffy and Woodburn. If they can get an understanding we might look a decent side again

Not fussed we haven’t got him and interesting were weren’t mentioned on SS as a club he’s turned down. We can’t have offered £5m upfront like we were lead to believe.

So......... 1 permanent and 2 loans maybe

Alan Biggs, James Shield and Kevin Gage banged on about all through May. They were pretty convinced it was close to happening but how close they really are to Wilder I don’t know.
Only half the story though isn't it?
CW never hinted at going anywhere - the real story was the uncertainty of the ownership and therefore future budget.
Once that issue was resolved,CW instantly bought into it and signed his new contract.
Sunderland was the Star making 2 + 2 = 5

Waghorn does seems. Bit pricey as he’s a risk at that price. Derby and boro can make that risk, but what next?

Who is everyone expecting us to sign for a similar amount of money.

Let’s just get a couple of loans in because the market we are playing in doesn’t seem much easier than the one last year with Sinclair at the train station
