Marquee signing ?

Never mind American English. We speak English English on here. There’s too much bastardisation of the English language by the most foreign nation on earth without us needing to conform to it on here.

Couldn't agree more.

After that Rochdale performance we should have realised he was just what we needed and been first in line when it was possible to sign him.

Perhaps we had become too obsessed with Leonard and Holmes by then but, whatever the reason, we missed out badly and if he did become available again we should put that right.

Don’t agree mate.

He’s good in flashes that’s all.

He also reminds me of that cartoon series “catch that pigeon” or a bloke that’s left the coat hanger in his jacket, and I don’t think that’s good at all.

Put bluntly, he’s an overweight underachieving no- neck flash in the pan. Avoid. You’ll have forgotten about him 2 years from now when he’s playing non-league.

Well we should try to protect our language, at the very least. It’s constantly evolving and that’s inevitable. But I don’t see why we have to copy the slang, gross exaggeration and foul abuse from a nation that evolved from ours.

“I was like, and she was like and he was like....” and “AWESOME!” “Motherfucker!

Lovely isn’t it?

Let’s all copy it like parrots eh?

I’d prefer to stay parochial if that’s the alternative?

I was just pointing out that the use of “marquee” in the phrase “marquee signing” probably comes from the American usage rather than the British. But if you want to turn it into an indignant letter to the Daily Mail, be my guest.

Overweight ? Not sure, but that, underachieving and no- neck can all be rectified by a good manager and we've got one.

A basic lack of talent cannot, but that can't be said about this player and I think he would be a good addition.

All about opinions.

You do know Awesome was originally a traditional English word, used by Shakespeare?

Modern American accents also sound more like British accents from around that time.

So who copied who?
 
Every year its Micheal Brown , this is the first year we can afford him , is Mi Lord the one ? has the time come to seek the Lord .
 
For me, with this budget, it means that CW can continue what he does so well, unearth gems, but get them at first attempt (or get his first target) rather than having to compromise on target or time. A really big name would possibly undermine what he has built.

And I don’t believe it. The American accent has arisen from the early European settlers trying to speak English, heavily influenced by Irish (and learning from hearing it rather than seeing it written down). If you’re saying that 15th century Sheffielders spoke like John Wayne, I’m just not having it. ;)
 
What I would like whether anyone else likes it or not, is a Forrestieri type. We are desperate for someone who can win us a game with a bit of magic in the last 10 minutes. They picked him up for 4m however I think the market has moved on since then.
