1. Why did we sign him?
2. Why does he play?
3. Why on earth did he play on left midfield?
4. Am I being too harsh as he is, in fact, slightly medically retarted?

Wilson said Williams was needed defensively against Cotterill, but also hoped he could use his pace and get crosses in from the byline.

He was signed as cover for LSF and as soon as LSF is back he will become surplus.

We had better balance on the left with Williams, who I thought did manfully out of position. But there was very little creativity on either wing. Until Flynn gets back it's a big problem.

Gallagher doesn't appear to be a wide man either. All our crosses on the right side came from 20 yards too deep simply because there was no-one in front of the fullback. And I mean no-one at all. Gallagher always drifted inside or into the box. Nor did he ever run with the ball.

Pur simply, the squad cannot cope well with absentees.

He's there so people have a favourite to focus on and abuse. He wasn't the reason we didn't win tonight and I'd suggest him and Hill were the main two trying to trying to force something second half.

He was out of position so he did the best he could.

You make it sound like he is the new Monty but people are more worried that we can't be the 1st man from a corner.

A bit like last season when Lowton and Maguire got sent off needlessly.

You are right to ask these questions because we all know the answers!

Tonight I was driving down to the ground heard the team news contemplated going back home, Williams paired up with the other stiff Hill what a joke is DW having a breakdown

There were far worse players tonight than Williams. McAllister once again was anonymous, McMahon's set plays were abysmal and not one of our numerous strikers was a goal threat. It's hard to understand how we can have so much ball & do so little. Having said all that, Donny were even worse - negative & shite.

Should we call the AA? :)

I think there are some options with youth players that could of perhaps been used to keep us with a normal looking midfield. Instead we have a mismatched midfield with defenders and strikers bundled in there to essentially plug a hole but also expected to provide some service.

You will not get any service off Cresswell now shown he's way past his sell by date, ineffective, continually trying to mug the ref, unwilling to contemplate taking on defenders as he always has his back to goal!

to return to the OP Williams has been suprisingly injury prone and also got a surprisingly long contract considering he was back up. A mystifying signing

With those comments I cannot believe you went to the game tonight.

Hill and Williams combined well and were an attacking threat. Yet you make no mention of McMahon and Gallagher who were static and created nothing.

You even fail to mention McAllister who is proving he is not good enough for this league

Like Racy, with comments like this it is difficult to believe you went tonight

McMahon,Maguire,Gallagher,Blackman and McAllister were no where near as good as Williams tonight (or Hill for that matter)

Prehaps someone should mention to Williams that when crossing the ball, it is usually helpful to try and beat the first man. Having said that he was better than the absolutely fucking woeful Gallagher.

So you thought Williams and Hill was an attacking threat, unbelievable!

To be honest we didn't create one clear cut chance most of the team didnt perform.

As far as Mcallister he will prove himself as will some of the other young uns if given the chance

You thought McMahon and Gallagher were better on the other side? McAllister hasn't had a good game this season and disappears in away games in the way he disappeared in the first half today. As for Blackman tonight...almost as bad as him. Yet you chose to pick on Hill and Williams(despite saying most of the team didn't perform)......surprise surprise they were some people's scapegoats last season and now Monty and Quinn have gone, they appear to be the top of the list.

What youngsters are good enough to play in the first 11? I can only think of Whitehouse (when fit) and possibly MacFadzean would have a chance

Is this the same McFadden who can't get infront of Williams? or harriott who can't get infront of our reserve right back to play in hs best position. For the record i have no problem with Williams, just the bloke in charge who as lost the plot. No problem with staying down bother season if we blood some of our own but this looks like our next car crash

all about opinions. Once someone takes a dislike to a player they only see bad.
As I have stated in deadbats report Williams was man of the match for me. Hill was a close second (and I dont like either of them)
Mcallister is lost as defensive midfielder and it didnt free Macca up enough.

Or you could say " 6th place, unbeaten, solid start but can still improve'

Cant see where Wilson has 'lost the plot'.

Maybe the coaches and DW don't think Harriott isn't good enough.

McFadzean is only 18 (i think)and in my opinion his time will come especially when he is fully fit from his foot injury

"Williams paired up with the other stiff Hill what a joke is DW having a breakdown"

Before the Bury game this pairing down the left was my big dread, after avoiding it Saturday I'd forgotton all about that prospect until kick off last night; my heart sank at this point.

To be fair to Hill he's fine at defending and to be fair to Williams, as much as I think he is an awful player, last night he was far from the worse. However, thanks to those two (the two on the other flank had the same limitations), it was like Blackwell had never been away.

Come back LJF and it might be worth trying Westlake at right back.

Yes they manfully tried last night. But my issue is more with Wilson putting square pegs in round holes. A left back on the left wing and a predominantly right footed player at left back. It might have made us stronger defensively but it meant we had nothing down that left side to complement nothing down the right where Gallagher was MIA.

He might not believe Harriott or McFadzean are quite ready yet, but frankly I would rather see them played (players in their correct position) than makeshift players out of position. Westlake another example of that on Saturday.

They certainly put in a shift down the left. Sadly it was completely inadequate. As stated above, square peg in a round hole and a winger who can't/won't cross is neither use nor ornament. However, contrast this with the other side of the field and there was just as little result without even the appearance of effort.
We have manged to mislay our width from last season and it showed in spades last night.

If you saw them and they were truly awful for 3 games, us losing them all heavily, would you think the same? Do you not think Wilson will have viewed them for hundreds of hours on a football field? Why does that field have the be BDTBL before he can make a judgement?

We're lacking width for sure, right now. Last years width cost £1,500,000 per third division season unfortunately.

Given the limited resources we have Williams is the best option we currently have for the left side of midfield. For what its worth I thought Hill had a decent game. Gallagher, as previously stated is not a winger and is never going to go past somebody, in the same way Quinny didn't.

Until we see them play then we have to trust that Wilson knows best. However, the poor showing of his "out of position" players coupled with the hype about the academy makes this hard to believe.
Most football managers are conservative (small c rather than slavering Walthy types) by nature and will stick with what they know rather than take a risk (see the likes of Tonge waiting months to replace Ford or Naughton only getting his chance when Sun got suspended and we had no other option).
Wilson seems happy to muddle through until he has his full 1st eleven back together but it's a hard watch at the moment.

Maybe they're not great trainers, maybe they'd be much better in a proper match. Given the displays of the square pegs round holes over the last 2 games does anyone believe they would have been worse?
