Sorry buts its a strange signing.

It's a gamble, as most signings are to be honest but ours are based on a strategy, backed up with diligent scouting.

A young player with recognised talent; pace and power to boot. Also a hefty slice of wanting to prove his former club wrong.

It could go one way or the other, but every club takes a risk from time to time, especially when working on a tighter budget. We have arguably taken a couple so far with Mousset and Morrison so let's role with it and see what happens. Personally I am excited to see how this lad turns out.

If he doesnt produce the goods then im guessing his fee will be similar to what derby paid for waghorn last season

It feels very much like a trust in Wilder signing. Can't help but think/hope there's another on the way.
The BBC comments page is interesting. Most fans wish us well but many see us emulating Fulham in buying shed loads of players. It's a difficult one for Wilder getting the balance right. I think the keeper slot and McBurrnie would constitute a decent preparation.

Couple of things...

Interviewer asks weird questions - not just here on all the interviews, who is he ?

Interviewer sounds like Sean Bean

Mousset looks/sounds like he's spaced out on ganja

Interviewer is doing that over exaggerated English accent because he's talking to a foreigner (like what Schteeve McLaren was trying to do but failed)

As an aside, it's good to have a real life proper foreign player (vague Canadians do not count) at the club. It's reassuring to see we're willing to start going down that route as it will likely become a necessity given the cost of British (and Irish) players.

I honestly can't understand all the negative comments and doubts over this guy. We have to accept we are now in the Prem and players cost! Gone are the days when a Prem club can mooch around picking up promising young strikers from other Prem clubs or top half Champ clubs for a bag of crisps and a red balloon.

We have bought raw potential. He's 23 but has hardly kicked a ball in 3 years. At 20 years of age he was valued at almost 4 times the price of Neal Maupay. Maupay went to a middle of the road Champ club, was able to cement his place and be the main man.... and last season finally started to deliver. Mousset has had to battle against a couple of other top strikers at a lower end, but never in real danger of relegation, Prem league club. He hasn't had a run of games to get into the grove and show what he can do.

At the price we have reportedly paid, this to me is a very sensible and exciting signing. If he comes good we have a real bargain. If he doesn't quite make it, we don't pay the add-ons and sell him off to a Champ side for maybe a couple of million less than we paid. It's a no brainer for me.

If we want to complete in the big boys league, we have to grow a pair and do what the big boys do.

On hol, with not much time or internet to browse. What's the general opinion on this one?

If the fee is as large as £9m, how come we aren't using the money to get Maupay or McBurnie over the line, after their scoring exploits of last season?

The fee will only be £9.5m if we stay up and Mousset scores loads of goals. The up front guaranteed fee might not even be half of that and for a Premier League team a £4m signing is a low value gamble.

Thanks for clarifying mate. Without the time to browse, I hadn't seen that breakdown of the cost.

That is an estimate - I'm NITFK - but I don't think it'll be too far off. Maybe £5m up front but I'd be pretty confident in saying that at this moment in time Callum Robinson has cost us more than Mousset.

That the same Fulham who spent over 100mil?
Villa are following the Fulham model, we're miles behind.

I think this is a great signing.

I think this is a shit signing.

I think this is an average signing.

There I think that’s all bases covered for when some pillock pointlessly bumps this thread back up the board in nine months time.

No doubt a pillock who's never wrong because he never has an opinion. No shortage of them here....

Certain number of games, above certain amount of goals and us staying up in the Prem are 3 of the add on's we've apparently included in the deal.
They were happy to sell at a pretty low upfront fee as long as we included a 20% sell on.

Allegedly.

Wilder has already announced a few days ago that he’s confident we will shortly break the transfer record again.
Suggesting we will still sign either Maupay or McBurnie, but I can’t see it being both.
Although Sky News reported yesterday that Wilder has confirmed we are still in negotiations to sign BOTH Maupay and McBurnie.
But I suspect we’re just trying for either one.

This feels like the Ricky Holmes signing to me - in that all the signs are that this is a stretch but Tufty has earned the right to make a gamble.

As with Holmes - if Robinson scores 20+ and we finish mid-table, no one will give a monkeys if this guy never plays...

All pretty logical when buying a young, high-potential striker. Virtually no deal done now is a simple fee unless there's a contractual clause; even the ridiculous deal which took Coutinho to Barcelona was about 25% add ons.

What I did like about the Mousset deal was the Bournemouth fan in Roygbiv's View From hoping they'd put a buy back clause in. Too long in the sun: buy back clauses are put in by big sides selling players to smaller sides...not Bournemouth selling to United 😂
