Like Evans and Leonard a couple of seasons ago, then up popped Norwood? Less of the wrist slitting, the window doesn’t close until October FFS!

Aye but the season starts in September! So far this window we've traded a top class GK for an okay one, and let go a very decent attacking mid. I think people have a right to be a bit worried. Targets that we thought were realistic i.e swift, cash, robinson have so far turned out to be out of reach of our meagre funds. Makes me wonder who, if any, we'll actually end up wi. I'm all for remaining positive but its not been encouraging so far has it?

I'll calm the feck down when I see us sign some players :D I know Wilder is the dogs bollocks but he can't sign the players we want when we're at a huge disadvantage to the other 19 teams cash wise, the guy can only work with what he's got no matter how great a manager he is. I'm a worrying fucker and ill continue to be, unfortunately

Sorry for changing the subject, but can someone help me with an IT issue? I’d like to know if it’s possible to set up some sort of automatic repeat of my reply to the Rodwell thread, so that it just gets posted the minute we announce any transfer between now and mid October. Would save me having to just type it out every time there’s pages of outrage. Thanks in advance.

The key to judging these decisions will be to look at them not in isolation now but alongside the full amount of business we do by the end of this window.

Why all the debate and disappointment. Jeeeez, I’m accused of being a pessimist but the amount of doubt going on over Freeman who was 3rd choice for fleck and osbourne and who has played a handful of games is unbelievable. My concern is the squad is shrinking BUT either Wilder, Betts et al know what their doing or we‘re in the sh!t. I know where the coin falls for me. It’s frustrating but let it play out before we get the ropes and pitch forks out.

Its only natural to react to things as they are tho isn't it. Other wise we may as well all meet back here on the 16th October to discuss things, wouldn't be much of a forum though then. Today I'm disappointed cos we're a player light, tomorrow I may be buzzing cos we've brought 2 in. Fickle football fans eh lol

Do you realise what you have just wrote? We have the best manager in our history, and you’re coming out with shit like this? God give me strength

You don't have to police every post that says something different to what you think ya know.

Yep. I don't understand all the disappointment over him leaving either. Had a good 45min v Palace and that's pretty much all he had to show for himself over a full season. Pretty obvious that he's not quite good enough for the Prem or Wilder would have used him and adapted more as the season progressed.

I'm not saying he's not good because he is definitely good enough to play top end Championship football; but he's not good enough for us, and that's what matters most. We need better players and this is somewhere we can try and improve on as he hasn't shown enough to warrant a place in the team. If he was good enough he would have played more instead of being sat on the bench all season. Wilder obviously didn't think so.

Plenty saying we can't even use this loan as leverage for Cash anymore because he's going to Villa. Just a thought but maybe this loan is being used as a make weight for Joe Worrall instead, as he has been mentioned as a target for us before?

Don't get me wrong i liked Freeman and i would have liked to have seen more of him; but its all about improving, and if it means he has to leave then so be it. At the end of the day Wilder knows what's best; just look at his track record instead of worrying to death about why we haven't signed anyone. These things take time.

Luke Freeman, who despite only starting 3 league games for us, is apparently a great player?

A player who has improved beyond belief since the season, a season which he barely contributed to, has ended.

Really feel for the lad if he’s going on loan, as unless he excels away then he’ll probably not come back. Think he gave us something different and had a high work rate and commitment.

GLTTL

I for one enjoy the transfer window. Smoke and mirrors time with plenty of weeks left. LF imo right time to move him on to get game time. Something's looming so not in the least bit worried. Yet......😎

I thought he did okay when he was called upon. Set Lundstram up for the winning goal vs Palace and was involved in the build up for Sharp’s goal at Bournemouth.

Realistically though he is 6th choice CM. Moving him on will free up wages and a squad place to help bring in a player who is likely to feature in more games.

I think the Freeman hissy fit is more to do with us possibly not getting Cash(if we were ever in for him) as part of the deal.
If Freeman had signed for Bristol City I don't think there would be the same reaction.
Me personally would have kept him our squad is small and our options from the bench were virtually non existent after lockdown. We need players in desperately but i trust Chris and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have let him go if he hasn't got someone lined up who he thought would be a better fit than Freeman.
Hopefully he has more than one lined up.

I'm saying this is the reason he wasn't used as a 'make weight', we aren't in for Cash and personally that doesn't bother me at all, Swift looks a better fit. Also the Norwich link has gone quiet whoever we were after over there. Looking forward to a 'blindside' signing by Monday.

I was against signing him from the start, so I can'y say I'm disappointed. Not using him to get another player, either through a trade, or through raised funds, is very odd however.

This is so odd to me. Never really got a good run in the team and he looked promising at times. Won’t doubt Wilder though, he’s not daft

Aye
I wonder why he "Never really got a good run in the team" - after all just what we needed someone who is "promising at times"

He may want to have a chat with Fleck (& Osborn) as to why he got so little game time

Wilder acknowledges that we are not strong or big enough especially in the middle of the park and subsequently wants to “freshen” things up with more athletic players

This is it for me - getting rid of freeman means we would need to buy someone if we wanted to contemplate using a number 10 in situational football.

We don’t now have the option and presumably would need to either loan someone to play there - pointless - if it’s not our preferred formation or buy someone (which presumably wouldn’t be cheapWe than freeman).

Ergo - we wont be (haven't been) "using a number 10" in "situational football" (whatever the fuck that is)

How can we have not been in for a player that we made a £10m offer for?

Loaning a decent player out when we are really short on numbers. Makes no sense at all. We are a Prem League club now and need to act like one.

Aye
& (allegedly) 'we' are Prem League fans / supporters & thus (now) have far greater insight / ability / understanding of how to run a Prem League football club than the bloke in charge :- a (mere) lower league gaffer with little top flight experience (<40 games remember !)

How can we have not been in for a player that we made a £10m offer for?

Who has said we have made any offers for any players?
Nothing concrete has come out of either club.
Even if we had then every player has his price both from a buying and selling point if view. If the price has gone beyond what CW thinks he is worth we move on. I would like a Ferrari but can only afford a merc.

Given this is a rumour mill perhaps fans should not waste anymore time on Freeman and guess which left footed creative player is coming in...far more fun. As much as I love Ozzy he does not challenge Fleck in terms of his attacking output and so I fully expect someone to come in in this position.

Ricky Holmes mark 2... both appeared phenomenally talented at lower levels and most ofnus were very happy when they were signed.

Then for whatever reason neither worked out.

Given how congested fixtures are once we kick off weve gor to assume there are plenty lined up to come in....also let's hope Lunny re signs or we are looking really short in the middlemof the park.
