Loyalty Points debate

Safe standing as it exists in Germany effectively replaces one seat with one large 'safe' standing area. There would be NO increase in capacity

It would cause a reduction in capacity within most due to the space required for the safe application.

My dad whores his points out regularly. Not to me though. Oh no. Waters thicker than blood in our house.

Would it? I was under the impression 1 seat could be changed into 1.7 standing places?

1000 then becomes 1700 so to speak.

It still rankles with me that one solitary member of staff at the club poo-poo’d the idea at Bramall Lane.

Who? I spoke to someone at the club earlier this year when the petition was live that suggested something quite different for the long-term plans (and in the event of a change in government policy).

I'll sell my +40,000 loyalty points to the highest bidder......

Then shred the ST

Yeah, Coco.
Smoke dem fuckers.

So how do Dortmund get those extra 15k in for league games compared to the Champions League?

Er, yes and er no.

In Germany the stands were designed with deeper rakes and ledges so you are correct that more can be fitted in, and the German law allows this. However...

“In a country where the national regulations permit it and a stadium’s exits and concourses are large enough to handle the number of people concerned, you could be looking at as many as two people per seat space (in Hannover, for instance, 5,700 fans stand in an area of 3,000 rail seats).

In the UK, however, seating rows tend not to be as deep as they are in, for example, Germany and in existing UK stadia the exits and concourses will have been designed to cope with no more people than the number of seats in the stand. In retrofit situations, therefore, achieving more than one person per seat may present a challenge – albeit not insurmountable."

Let's say that we were all right to give a lovely amicable outcome and such a refreshing change!

During the 05-06 promotion season I attended 40 league games, however one game I didn’t attend was the away fixture at Hillsborough as it was once big free for all, and I didn’t get to the Lane in time.

Now we have got the loyalty points system. I’ve been protected from that happening again, because I’ve always attended enough games from a situation arising where supports who have attended far less games during a season getting a ticket in front of me.

The only thing I would change is to have a cut off point of say 5 years, which would even it up a lot and reward more recent loyalty, I’m on 45000 points, whilst the 9 year old Brownie Jnr has accumulated 17000 points, mine have come from since the inception of the loyalty scheme, whilst Brownie Jnrs have come from the last 5 years,

The bloke who does the roadshow with the piece visited BL. Someone said “if I were to sit down the rail is at eye-level so I can’t see” (or words to that effect). Why sit down in a standing area anyway? That’s what I’m told.

And SAG won’t allow it. The council will shit themselves also.

Now would be an ideal time as it would include those who watched us for 3 seasons in our darkest times

Your post presupposes that views cannot evolve. On this subject, they already have shifted – for fans, for a number of clubs, and perhaps most importantly within Parliament. I can’t remember when the Safe Standing roadshow last visited, but I know that as a club we reponded positively to the Football League action to seek a trial, and that there have been discussions within United considering where in the ground this might be most feasible in the event the policy for the top two divisions do change. I was told that in June of this year.

Fair enough. I was told a while back. Things may have changed. That person may have moved on.

I’m all for it. I would suggest the pukka pie corner for trial.

Don't you lose your loyalty points if you stop getting your ST? I'm sure I know of people who get a ST just to keep the points even though they might only go to a handful of games, therefore ensuring they'll still get one for big games.

Under present system you don't lose your points. You don't need a season ticket or membership to gain points either. All you need is a customer number.

You don’t lose them but you need a membership to be able to use them. Other than that once you renew/return ST you’re able to use again.

You can even gain loyalty points with no ST or Membership but you just can’t use them.

Yes you can use them. Normally they are only useful for away games, but this season they are used for the Wendy game at home due to high demand for the seats and the number of piggies wanting seats.

On the flip side, all my points are from my own usage only...

But then I'm losing out on first or early dibs to make it 'fairer' to those who have fewer. Sounds fair.

Lowering the bar simply creates more people on the same level and therefore back to the queuing out overnight.

In an ideal world, they'd need proof a customer wasn't giving out their number for others to use and keep their points topped up, but it's incredibly difficult to police that and maintain convenience for the buyer.

This argument always comes up during a run of bigger games, or around the time of a derby day.

Nobody ever raises it for some shit hole away on a Tuesday night.

I've also have a foot in both camps, as I have an infant daughter with minimal points (sadly you don't get them for U18 away friendlies :) )

Oh how right you were Foxy !
They're all coming out of the woodwork now.

"I got some complementary tickets in 1982, surely I should be able to get tickets for the Wednesday game?"

This has probably been done to death but I thought I'd dig up the corpse once more for an airing....

You'll see from the linked thread that TomSUFC25 is asking to use someone else's loyalty points so he can go to the Forest game. What's everyone's thought on this?

https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/forest-away.66783/#post-1828600

Here's mine if anyone is interested...

I admit, I'm going to the Forest game as a mate who I work with knows quite a few fans with well over 40,000 points. They don't go to all the away games and are quite happy for them to be 'pooled' to be used by others. The advantage for them being that it increases their own loyalty points even though they can't attend.

This is my fifth consecutive season as a ST holder, I can only get to a handful of away games, but otherwise I'd still have no chance of going to the Forest game if I used my own loyalty points which are still less than 20,000.

I know this is considered 'unethical' but what chance do fans like me have of going to away games as the loyalty points system is effectively a case of 'the rich getting richer....'

I think the club should have a re-think as soon you'll be needing 70,000 points to have any chance of going to an away game, especially as those with the points are making sure their points keep getting topped up.

I should point out that wherever possible, I try to use my own points as I did for the Blackburn game. I even waited until they went on General sale so I could get one for my mate from Wigan. I also try to go to games that aren't going to be so popular so I went down to QPR midweek last season. Even so, this isn't going to boost my loyalty points to the point where I can always get a ticket.

Anyway, I hope TomSUFC25 got sorted. We should encourage as many fans as possible to go to support the team.

Yes mate 3 of us got sorted through lads on Facebook

As I’m the one who is mentioned in the opening post this is my view on it. As I’m only 16yo I have zero chance of catching up to other blades til they can no longer attend matches due to ill health/death.
Since we have won promotion I have gained 7,350 points from going home and away atleast 10 times a season. For me the best system would be a 3 year rolling basis

Of no use to our more far-flung supporters who want tickets for the derby but a definite disincentive for any pigs trying to get tickets in our areas would be a scheme I'm sure we've used in the past.

Buy tickets for the Stoke & Wigan games and be guaranteed a ticket for the derby. It would give a definite boost to the two lesser-attractive games.

Hmmmm sausage, bacon, egg and brown sauce I think.....

Remember the bad old days when you had to queue up outside the ground for tickets (think 1992/3 cup run, for example)? The queue went out of the car park, along Cherry Street and Shoreham St and beyond. Thank the good lord for the points system and online purchases!

And at least once when those travelling back from an away game were at a disadvantage as the queue had already started.

Returning from Southampton (Dell) at break neck speed to join an already largish queue for Blackburn away cup game, with only 500 tickets available. Got to Lane to queue at 8pm with ticket office due to open at 9am Sunday. Thankfully allowed us to queue, eventually, inside south stand and from memory sold us tickets around 2am, unbelievably!

Managed get one otherwise my feelings would well and truely have been voiced!!

I deliberately skipped Southampton so that I could join the queue early.

Got to the Lane about 7.30pm well knowing that the coaches wouldn't be back.

Edit: I have no remorse as anyone else could have made the same choice but instead we took loads more to Southampton than we normally would as lots of folk thought it might get them a voucher for a Blackburn ticket.

Normally I would have been at Southampton as I rarely missed a game in those days, but unfortunately for them they read it wrong and I got it right,

C'est la vie.

Yep! I camped out overnight for tickets once, but I can't remember the game. Slightly confused as in my head it was the League Cup semi against Liverpool... but I ended up watching that from the home end.

This loyalty points system takes the fun out of it all. If someone's willing to sleep in the Bramall Lane car park they deserve the tickets, however many games they've been to in the past.

Anyone that wants to take a youngster/family member to a first game we have an FA Cup tie coming up against Barnett offering a chance to get registered and 150 points towards the total required for your Leeds/Pigs ticket next year.

Just saying like ;)

Commonsense solutions really aren't welcome on here.....

You are right this has been done to death. At the end of the day if your like me you will try and get a ticket by hook or by crook. Once I have the ticket in my hand its all forgotten on how I got it. I’m there supporting the boys.

Does anybody know how any other clubs manage this situation that would be fairer.

I know on the Wolves Website you can buy an away season ticket.

Me too despite that my dad and my friend went to Southampton and I got three Blackburn tickets for us three (I hardly missed an away game that season and decided not to go to Southampton because I feared I would be too late coming back to Sheffield to get in front of the queue). It was very cold queuing so the South Stand was opened for us to get in and a drunk Blade wanted a fight with one of the stewards because he had an issue with him in a previous match (I was trying to calm him down but he swung a punch and just missed my head!). He was persuaded to calm down but a few minutes later he went berserk again before being thrown out.
