Lowering of expectations needed

We're actually in a much better position.

1) Takeover completed. No two lists. No missing out on new players and renewals due to not knowing who owns us.

2) Unlikely to go into season massively short on numbers/ basic fitness like last season

3) Cooper, Seriki, Peck, Burrows, Campbell, Moore, Cannon, McCallum, O'Hare in situ and bedded in/developed.

4) Arblaster and T Davies likely to play a bigger part

5) The massive opportunity of a second summer window to build on all the above. No relying on a massive influx of Jan loan signings with all the associated risks of buying in that unfavorable window. If we can finish third with one summer window the expectation is to improve after another

6) Fitness/injury concerns unlikely to be as big an issue due to bigger squad size and having players in situ.

7) Much weaker competition at the top of the league.

The notion that we have a last parachute year with no expectation of automatic seems fanciful. The owner's stated goal is promotion and consolidation. This season is logically the best chance

The above could change if the owner's take a wrecking ball to the squad selling all our best players without adequately replacing them. I don't see it.
Don't think competition at top of the league is going to be much weaker

I'm sorry. We just missed out on promotion last season and sacked the manager who got us there. What's the point of doing that unless we expect the new bloke to get promotion?
To transition to a new style/way of running the club in line with the new owners' philosophy.

Although this may be the case, I'm also certain they'll have set the target for promotion for 100 different reasons, some of which have been stated already.

Please could you produce two charts, one setting out the reasons that haven’t already been stated and the other those that have. It will need to total exactly 100. Thanks 😊

Can't believe it's July and you still have to have this explained to you

Wilder failed to get promoted - got sacked. Selles fails to get promotion - will get sacked.

I cant really spell that out any clearer.
Do you genuinely believe that's the main reason that Wilder got sacked?

Mid table is fine, because at least we'll have a plan B and the football won't be turgid.

Is that a fact?

I'm surprised that RS's number is already posting on here, but at least we know now, how great we will be to watch.

After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, it’s natural that expectations are going to be higher…On paper we should have 4th best team with a similar sized budget…To try and dismantle what we’ve built so far would be foolish.

Sold 2 starters last week its already been dismantled

I'm not sure why they'd be higher for this season. We'd just come down from the EPL and been able to keep most of our players. We spunked money in January. The second season was always going to involve spending less.

I think I ( and by the looks of it most of the fanbase )
Have read between the lines and assumed we were going to keep the nucleus of the squad together and add maybe half a dozen quality additions in areas we were short last season

I'm getting the vibe now that with tge profile of player we are being linked with and the lack of activity with the dore training ground that we are entering a period of cloth cutting and targeting cheap young lower league players who I assume are scoring high data wise and will be seen as future assets

Listening to the ntt20 boys yesterday and they summed up perfectly their view on the owners who seem to have gone all in on this risky strategy at the wrong time when maybe sticking with what. We had might have been the safer bet

I was all for Wilder going and selles coming in ,hopefully the fitness levels improve and I think the squad is crying out for a coach to come in and take them to another level
But I think signings wise the highest profile player we are being linked with is Ashley Phillips and I think.all this talk of Barry, brooks ,doyle ect is just fans hoping, it doesnt look like they are the profile of player we are in for and I think that is a very all in strategy and makes me very nervous but excited
Then the club will expect less people attending games, easy!!

Leeds finished 3rd , lost in the play off final too , stuck with the manager & players & won the division a year later by a canter . If we were 12 months later down the line in terms of having to cut our cloth accordingly I’d understand it but statements about part of of the money will be available to recruit doesn’t fill us with confidence . I’ll reserve judgement at present & see where we are come the end if the window , but it didn’t need wholesale changes to improve on last season ⚔️

Because our parachute payments disappear next season…I thought they’d throw the kitchen sink at it this summer.

Shouldn't have sacked Wilder tbh. The only reason I can think for this is that the owners and him had serious disagreements over transfer policy and style of play.

What I'm struggling to understand is why bring in Selles and with that try and fundamentally change our style of play and then seemingly struggle to give him to the tools (players) to implement those changes.

ATM this has Slav MK2 wrote all over it.

Wilder was wild,Selles being a new manager will be much easier for the owners to control.
😲 think you have just rumbled the great Sheffield united manager name fortune telling.

Wilder mk1 (wild journey)
Heckingbottom -(heck! He got up promoted.... now we are bottom)
Wilder mk2 (angry wild...)
Selles ( sell us players)

🤣
