For every list of previous academy players who went on loan there are those who didn’t:

Maguire
Whitehouse
Wayne Quinn
Woodhouse
Morris
Jagielka
Monthomery
Tonge

As always (boring thought I know it is and I feel like I just repeat same old boring shit when I say it) it’s not a one size fits all approach. There are some on here saying throw them into first team straight away (always) and those who say we may send them on loan (always). Both are wrong. Depends on each player and the countless variables around contract, physical development, talent, position etc etc.

As for Marsh, he seems to need more physical development so I get why first team football would be a big ask at this stage. However, not sure I agree that getting the shit kicked out of him by lower league cloggers is going to make him grow faster so undecided if he should be loans. As always, those running the academy and first team are I’ll have all the relevant information and be in a far better position to figure out his path to the first team.
Barring Maguire, all these came through over 2 decades ago. Possibly we had a reserve team in those days?
Except for Maguire, who was a man mountain at 18, all our successful young players have had loan spells since then.

So Brighton have an 18 year old who scores in the Premiership but we treat out player with kid gloves. Brian Clough (when referring to Trevor Francis, who had his debut in the top flight at 16 years old) if your good enough, your old enough! Total truth!!!
Jebbison scored in the Premier League at 17 years old.

I obviously have not got my point across bluntly enough. Sorry. Let me have another go. Excuse my bluntness.

I do not give two fucks what is best for the first team.
I do not give two fucks what is best for the club.
I do not give two fucks what is best for the longer term plan.
I do not give two fucks what is best for the player themselves (in this case Louie)
I am a selfish fuck.
Who enjoys watching (in this case) Louie Marsh play NOW.
I give a little bit of a fuck what happens to him in the future, sure. But I enjoy seeing him play NOW.
I am hoping to next see Louie Marsh play for SUFC U21 on September 19 v Fleetwood Town.
I will not be able to do that if he's gone to Woking or ManBall Rovers on a fucking loan.

This is the Carrier Bag Firm creed - it includes the words FUCK and NOW.

I believe I have not given eight fucks, but redressed the balance slightly by giving a little fuck.

Again, forgive my bluntness. But my pussyfooting around the subject seemed to be misleading other posters who were responding in good faith. 🤓
So you're undecided then yeh?

Occasionally a young player comes through who books the trend of young players needing time to hit the heights! Francis was one Rooney another , Besty fantastic player as an 18 year old.
Denis Law who has been mentioned in this post was a tremendous player even at 16, played for udders .
FA CUP ti at Bramall lane in the mid fifties he got Tommy Hoyland (blades wing half) Sent off for violent conduct ! to get sent off in them days it had to be bad ,Law had a great career.
One size dunt fit all and we as punters don't see the big picture which is in training and coaching .
Phil what would you think of seeing Marshy in a couple of years time having progressed to a marvelous striker or no 10.
That is what watching young players is all about becoming a real talent in the top division starring for the Blades ! That is what development level is all about.

Ferguson looks and plays like he's in his mid-twenties with a 100 games in the tank already. He would walk into any championship side and most bottom half prem ones. The likes of Osula, Jebbison, Marsh are nowhere near this level. All have raw potential - but from what I've seen of the first two so far - to be starting games and scoring goals they are top end league one/bottom end championship at best at the minute and that's fine

As I said occasionally a young player breaks the trend and is a star at 18.
Not seen much of the kid but looks a real unit at 18.
Rooney was the same very mature at a young age

Ferguson played for Bohemians at 14 years old!
There is possibly a clue as to why Marsh is 4th ranked striker in his age group.

There seems to be within football a mindset that young players need to bulk up ,tell that to your Denis laws your Billy deardens ,your George bests ,your John Tudors and many other slight players .
Its telling that you have had to cite players from 40+ years ago who weren't having to play against elite athletes every week.

But they were elite athletes ,who played in a far tougher game .it wasn't a none contact sport then . opinions opinions

Gotta be looking at Championship clubs surely this lad is the real deal and think he is the next big thing for the club.

He's learning nowt at U21 level he's just taking the piss. Needs a L1 loan for me, bulk the lad up and he could be deadly.

Lets not forget Osula was banging them in at that level but didn't really break in the Derby side. Jebbo however did establish himself as a starter in league one. For me that's the level we should be looking at. Dingles so he's close to us perhaps?

Apparently rejected a 6 figure bid from Ipswich for him so must be one we see something in

Yeah Ipswich can fuck right off!!! £150k my arse!Screenshot_20230830-133920_Google.jpg

I'm more excited about this lad than both Jebbo and Osula. Seems a lot more technically gifted. Our main priority after the transfer window shuts should be getting these promising young lads tied down to new deals
Get him out on loan, doesnt matter where, aslong as the sniper cant ruin him before he gets a chance!!

Is he another of our players who either won't sign a new contract or the club haven't offered one to? Either way in last year of his contract, we need this sorting out now if so.

We won’t even have tried yet we have bigger fish to fry than academy contracts. Wait till the window is over

I hope he is offered one and likewise for a few more, Osula also of course.

Totally agree. I think both him and Arblaster will be knocking on the door of the first team next year. Just need to get them to sign a contract. Does anyone know if any of the youngsters have a year extension option in their existing contract?

If only we had tied Lankshear down
