This is what was going to happen to us but we managed to negotiate a -2 deduction instead.

We as a club played an absolute blinder with that one. Even though it sounded like the worst thing possible at the time.
Yep, it looks more & more like a masterstroke that gained us another year of PL money and 2 years of parachute payments that stabilised the club financially. A big gamble, but it paid off.

He played at Hull

So a bit like when Macatee came back to us in Championship rather than Leicester in PL I guess.

Don’t understand the potential Barry to Hull City loan, surely if they’re still owed a £million from last season, they’d be the last club Villa would send him to this season?

So, we didn’t pay our debts to other clubs on time, and then gambled on getting into the top 2,or screwing up our run in, so we missed out on going up, automatically, to make the 2 points deduction irrelevant? If we’d have missed going up,by a couple of points, not sure you’d be lording it as a masterstroke, then.
Surely, the masterstroke would have been, paying your debts on time, and giving us a bit more of a chance to finish above Leeds and Burnley, without making it harder for ourselves, with a 2 points deduction.

As I said, it was a big gamble. It paid off. There’s no doubt about that. Whether or not you agreed with the gamble is irrelevant.

The masterstroke was doing it SO we got promoted the previous time, to pay those debts on time we'd have had to sell Berge and Ndaiye earlier.

I don’t think you realise how key and pivotal to our clubs current situation that decision was.

Before the prince decided to freeze payments he was skint. He was actively trying to find buyers for both Ndiaye and Berge around Europe. He was disappointed with the offers coming in because clubs knew he was desperate.

He decided to gamble. Middlesbrough were breathing down our necks and we went for it, gained promotion and approximately £150 million.

The promotion money allowed him to clear the debts, use some of the cash to help pay off monies owed on joining the club back up with the stadium and its lands.

Yes we started this season on -2. It made no difference what so ever as Leeds and Burnley were both comfortably better than us.

If we had not gambled and won. We would have sold Berge and Ndiaye mid season. Not got promoted to the premier league. Had to sell all our decent players to service debts. There would be no Cooper, Anel, Souza, Hamer, Burrows etc.

We would not have been in the shop window for the Americans as they bought us as a parachute club with a valuable squad for the division.

We would still be skint, owned by the prince sinking lower and lower in the league year after year with no investment. Mortgaged up to our eyeballs paying back Mcabe.

We have to just take it on the chin that the premier league was an embarrassment but the 2 point deduction was an absolute masterstroke and why we are in such a strong position going into this season.

There was no choice between no point deduction and keeping the squad together.

One year ago.

They've just won League One. So they might trouble the top end of the Championship, but it's more likely that they don't, to be honest. Mid-table and Wrexham relegated.
Doyle among others they're signing/linked wi is proven at this level though.

Hope Hollywood FC go down. The Netflix show will be essential comedy 🤣

I’d be surprised if Parkinson lasts the season at Wrexham tbh.

They’ve bought their way through the divisions by paying big money to old, former premier league players way past their best.

Their style has been agricultural at best.

Giving big contracts out to the likes of McLean and Fletcher won’t work for the championship.

They’ve advanced through the divisions too quickly for their academy to keep up and the scale of investment required to get through the championship is pretty staggering compared to league one.

Parkinson is no Wilder or (insert other managers name) who can bring a club from league 1 and go straight through. Hes a donkey.

They'll have to play to Doyle's strengths for a start. He had a very good half season for us in a very strong Championship team

He could be huge for them, but no guarantee.

The thing with Doyle is that our team was pretty stacked that season.

He was playing with Berge, Ndiaye etc.

Norwoods standards so drastically dropped Hecky had no choice but to chuck Doyle in, who performed admirably but I don’t think he did or is anything special. He came in and offered more energy than Norwood and helped keep us ticking over. It wasn’t him that got us up though. Ndiaye and Mcatee in particular were winning points for us single handedly at times.

Doyle did well and I liked him but he seems to get remembered as some kind of superstar. He was decent but nothing more and has obviously found his ceiling as his game time and influence at Wolves was extremely limited.

Aye
Maybe Wilders next ‘gig’ - self proclaimed “Premier League Manager “ perfect fit for an equally arrogant (media induced) ‘PL in waiting’ club😳
