Second half Vs Derby too
Last season at Hull was it? The absolute shit show
Weren't great against Boro either if you go on goals conceded.

Weren't free flowing today in the first half but equally didn't really look in trouble and had a few decent efforts.

Can't keep up our full tilt, full power, red hot, maximum pace all the time can we.

Weren't allowed to be free-flowing, either by the opposition or the referee
 
Blackburn played with a high tempo, constantly pressing us but without really creating us many problems.

Why Basham and Smallwood were sent off I’m not too sure but when it went 10 v 10 we controlled it.

The Bash red lifted the crowd again though ! Why it takes that to get us going I don’t know. We need that from the start. Every game is a Cup final, we maybe 4th but we are punching above our weight up there and need to get behind the lads from minute 1 not only after a dodgy decision

Southend was League 1.......I said Champ.

Either way, no one can seriously say that the 1st half was anything other than shite, whether that be down to Blackburn or the ref.

More relevant to this thread though is the thought that we are contenders for promotion and all i was saying was that based on that 1st half performance, there is no chance. I also said that it was a one off and that hopefully if we strengthen in the right areas in Jan then who knows..

I'd agree with this but I'd extend it to include the bit when we were 10 vs. 11 too - Rovers never looked like scoring. Professional performance from Bash red to their red and then destroyed them when the space appeared at 10 vs. 10.

Totally agree pal. I mainly meant in regards to entertainment and action. The players and fans were brilliant during us having a man less.

Well I don’t accept your premise that we performed badly so we’re on different tramlines. I’ll just mention that I’ve seen us play far worse than that as recently as the previous manager and many many times under various managers without going back ‘a very long time’.

Do you enjoy debating how bad your own team is after two fantastic victories?

I’ve not heard anyone claim we are the complete item. It’s not reasonable to expect we should be either. We’re doing magnificently well to simply be where we are, so soon after the six years in league one.
 
There are times when I come on here and think " Hang on , I must have clicked the wrong button and gone to Porktalk " and this thread epitomises that feeling .

We've just come through two games against very dangerous and well organised opponents having gained all 6 points , scored 6 goals and conceded 1 and yet there are still those who find it necessary to look for any negatives they can possibly find .

Were we at our best for the whole 90 minutes? No . Did every single player play to his maximum potential ? No . But the same criteria apply to every match that has ever been played in the entire history of the beautiful game and those who can't or won't accept this are in for a very big disappointment and would probably be better off taking up stamp collecting or trainspotting.

Anyone who watched today's game should have come away with one abiding memory , that of once again having had the privilege of watching a master craftsman in the art of goal scoring at work , a privilege that many football fans never see in their entire lifetime of watching their club .

Good to see strong finishes.Teams have been holding tight until we run out of energy in the 2nd halfs.
Today Blackburn just couldn't keep up with our pace and energy,they were steamrolled.

Originally, you said a very long time and then changed it to the Championship, which is a season and a half and not a very long time.

Now, people are giving examples of when we’ve played worse than today’s first half (I agree with most of them) and you’re in denial.

If that first half is as bad as you believe, you’re following the wrong team, really. Alternatively, stop digging.

I wonder if we've purposefully changed our approach from the off.

We've not pressed as high first half and sat back a little. That's partially why we've not played as well in the first half of the last two games, and we've then finished the game stronger.

That's my theory anyway.
 
If that first half was as bad as you've seen then you clearly haven't been to very many matches!

There have been several games this season alone where we've been far worse.
