I agree with some of these comments for me I don't think long is good enough for the first team but is definitely a decent back up that could force his way into the first team at some point. I think we need a keeper to at least keep long on his toes if we aren't going to buy a new first team keeper. Long is a decent shot stopper usually just can't command his area at all that been said the grimsby goal has to be the worst keeping I have ever seen it was hit straight at long and he still missed it, but I don't think you can blame him for the goal today at all it was a perfectly hit ball and think most keepers would struggle with that shot.

If the outfield players blocked or cut out every shot the opposition have we could manage without a keeper.
They don`t but we still manage without one that is anywhere near good enough.

I wasn't at the game today. But it has been clear for a while that he's not up to the standard we require. He had 2 good spells, as far as I recall. One was when Howard was injured shortly after Clough took over. He stepped up to the challenge and had a good few months. The other time was a brief spell in the middle of last season. The rest has been average. His confidence issues are neither here nor there. You can train a player to get over that.

You know what his problem is? He's about 0.25 seconds too slow. He reacts well, never gets sent the wrong way, but the quicker shots he lets in, his arms are never at full stretch. If he was a hair's breadth quicker he'd be a great keeper. As it stands he is merely good.
