Loan Players

If we have decided not to take options up on them for whatever reason then it’s unlikely they will feature. I think Rodwell and Leon on the bench may indicate that.
Well it certainly says something when Leon and Rodwell get a place on the bench.Leon has no future at the club and makes the bench so to Rodwell also it says we are spread to thinly as far as back up is concerned.

I was asking the same question, infact, I was hoping Slater or one of the other young lads would make the bench?

Haven’t they both played in the friendlies? Presumably that implies that the loan contract hasn’t expired and makes it stranger that neither was in the squad last night.

Would've been £9m for Retsos.

You seemed strangely certain he wouldn't sign so now I'm wondering if you'd heard something I've not?

No it’s called common sense or reality. CW said I want to see the players and then sign them. You decided CW was wrong and should sign them.

CW is seeing them and not starting them.

It looks quite obvious to me ...

With both of these seemingly being let go and awarding Didsy a new contract should it ring alarm bells about our upcoming recruitment?

Has the Covid and the upcoming legal action over the land scuppered things?

I’m beginning to really panic about our recruitment.

Berge / Restos / Zivkovic / L Freeman/ Rodwell / Besic / C Robinson.

All signed this season and they’ve hardly played at all.

You are right to panic. It's the sensible thing to do right now while we are 6th in the Premier League with 9 games to go.

Panic like you've never panicked before

Berge's played plenty considering when he came in, Morrison is the one that seems like a pointless signing, along with Zivkovic, Retsos and Rodwell.

Besic was pretty good, I thought, Robinson isn't at quite the standard required (with the occasional flash of quality), Freeman is a tad unlucky.

Do we know what they were not in the squad ?

Presume Moore was selected over Verrips, but not sure why others were not in the squad.

Loan extensions not signed?

Anyone got any insights ?

I trust our great journos didn't ask Wilder about it then?

is not the issues over the transfer fee and his previous club why we will not risk
Verrips.

I believe it is still not fully concluded, but it is between him and the previous club, not Sheffield United.

Besic went back to Everton ages ago. I think CW just didn't fancy Retsos or Zivko

I thought Besic’s loan had ended but a quick Google search suggests he’s still very much with us. Cover for Lunny and more defensive so probably not in the plan last night.

The problem the club has had, is that we perhaps didn’t realise the true cost of finding players better than we actually had starting!

but I suspect Wilder had an eye on the high number of games in short spaces of time and decided he simply can’t pick the same side every week when these lads have hardly kicked a ball for 3 months.
It’s ok coming back physically fit, but that’s still not football fit. And their muscles and tendons will have become weaker and more susceptible to injuries if played at our intensity from the go.

I honestly feel that Wilder May be a tad worried about Berge and where he’s going to fit in. And the others clearly haven’t done enough to push out others who have just been given contract extensions like Sharp and Didzy.
I suspect our recruitment is being reconsidered, and I believe Retsos and Zickovic Haven’t done enough to be signed permanently. I see us returning to our tried and trusted method of sticking to British and Ireland based Players and looking to pick up the odd relegated player or next big thing from lower leagues.
Whatever happens I trust Wilder.

I may be stating the obvious here but they may have all played more frequently had we been 20th in the league.

Besic has gone back to Everton. As the loan was only up until this month we didn't extend

I read into it that Wilder has seen them since January and other than a weird cameo from Retsos at Reading (weird in a bad way) he has decided they are not good enough. Kieron Freeman, Rodwell and Clarke wont be here next year you would not think and all are on the bench. So the fact those two were not involved would suggest Wilder has seen enough in training and they are not quite what he is looking for. Having Clarke ahead of Zivkovic in particular would be a major clue that they wont be here long term and maybe not at all after end of June - if we arent playing them or even having them on the bench we may aswell send back and save money and look to others for next signings. The team has done well so would not expect them to be regulars but to not even be on the bench with 9 subs; then the writing is on the wall.

Retsos was recovering from injury, maybe he's not good enough any more.
Zivkovic and Rodwell (alongside Morrison) were wildcards cheap options let's see if we can get them firing but it doesn't look like it's working out.
I think we all know the deal with Besic, end of contract looking for his next move doesn't want to chance injury.
Robinson may still come good. Freeman, I know he is popular on this board but I just don't see it having said that I think he'll fit into the system better than Berge who is no doubt quality but seems to play a different style than United.
Or maybe some of the loanees don't want to put themselves on the line if we aren't promising a contract which may be as a result of the possibility of reduced income.

Besic is back at Everton.

update in this. Doesn't really answer the question, apart fro Besic, but doesn't sound promising.
We are not taking up the option to buy for financial reasons
This really worries me as both deals and besic's were pretty cheap
So either we are cutting back the budget big time next season or we didn't rate them and are lying about why we don't want them

I think to be honest we're waiting to see who we can take advantage of as bad as it sounds.

Why would you sign a player you'd agreed to buy at a price dictated by a market that's not the one that exists now?

£10m for a RCB backup or your pick of Championship talents from clubs that need the money for half that?

Wilder obviously thinks there are better deals out there and he's probably right.

Or maybe the agreed prices are no longer valid in the current climate and Wilder thinks he will get better value elsewhere.

Makes more sense I suppose

Not saying that there isn't anything in the kitty for next season but Wilder made it quite clear that Berge was signed with the money we were going to get for remaining in the Prem next season, didn't he? He said that that was the only way we could get him in before other bigger clubs started circling in the off-season.

Sure we'll sign players but I doubt that they'll be mega-money signings given the recent circustances regarding Covid losses and the owners having to buy the assets. This just seems to me like we are cutting our cloth accordingly.

We'll see.
