The corruption rumours around the deal giving WHU the Olympic stadium continues to give concern - especially to the council taxpayers in Newham who are stumping up £40m (and rising) to fund this exercise and its dubious legality. I know something of the background and quite a few of the individuals involved in setting this up and believe me the Guardian articles only really scratched the surface.Whichever way you cut this public finances have been used to give a football club an unfair financial advantage. But the desperate need of the politicians, particularly Johnson and Wales, to demonstrate an enduring Olympic legacy and the fear of another millenium dome escapade have driven this and WHU have taken full advantage. At some point the EC may decide to investigate further - that door is still open for another 10 years. I very much hope they do.
