I'm not talking about being caught up the field from attacking, im talking about standing in the wrong place / going to the wrong man while defendingBasham drifts 'out of position' because Wilder wants him to, and it's one of the main reasons he's been so effective at RCB. He has the energy to constantly support the attack, which Brayford perhaps doesn't anymore.
I don't think positioning is a strength of Brayford's, certainly at right back. At CB it would need to be good because he doesn't have the attributes to make up for it like Basham does.
Brayford may look smoother on the ball, but I don't think he's more effective. Basham's better at carrying the ball out, and is no less skillful. People have preconceptions about him, he sometimes looks a bit ungainly and it gives people the impression he's fluking it every time, when he isn't.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this herbIt's hard to compare their positioning at CB. But if Brayford's is better, does that make him the better defender?
What about everything else? Basham's taller, more athletic, better at tackling and generally dealing with all kinds of situations.
We can't be removing any physicality from the current 11. We'd be a bit light if one of the CBs was taken out for Brayford.
Our ambitions compared to burton have nothing to do with it, brayford played well in a poor team against championship attackers.
Brayford had a habit of getting caught up the field at RB but when he played CB his positioning was good.
I also remember him being good in the air at cb
Agree 100% provided no new signings this weekI think we'll go
---------------------Blackman----------------
________Bash stearman JOC-------------
Freeman -----------------------------Stevens
--------------Coutts----------Fleck--------------
----------------------carruthers----------------
------------sharp---------------Clarke---------
Personally I'd have wright instead of stearman, he was immense last season, and I'm not convinced about the new lad. Also I'd put lavery in for Clarke. I think he'll use brooks as an impact sub for the first few games before actually starting him. Too early to put brayford in the team, however if he ends up staying I'd like to see him in the back 3
Basham is probably better going forward than Brayford. He often looks clumsy but rarely loses the ball.Positioning is the main thing for me. Basham drifts out of position a lot, I reckon because he is a natural midfield. TBF he has got better but he still does it and it will get exposed in the championship.
Brayford is also better with the ball, passing and linking up with the forwards and crossing and shooting, down to him being a fullback.
I know the attacking side isn't as important in the RCB role but wilder still likes the to get forward and I'd much rather see brayford running up the field with the ball than basham
Blackman, Stearman, Carruthers in for Moore, Wright, Duffy.
Blackman is still a young kid, untested at this level. I don't think Eastwood should start, but it's not like the anti-Bladey option is an experienced alternative who has played with this defence before. Blackman is just as much a leap into the unknown as Eastwood.
I know you'd stop at nothing to stop seeing Blades have a chance in the first team, and that's your weird prerogative, but Blackman has never even been tested in League One nevermind the Championship.I'm really attracted to the idea of beginning the season with a complete novice in goal. The fact that he's "one of our own" would make the goals flying into our net almost enjoyable. It worked so well with Calamity George. More of the same Bladey nonsense for me, please.
I too am concerned that Harlee Dean will go toe to toe with Leon and win all day, whilst sitting in the fucking stand serving a suspension. A truly remarkable player, our Harlee...
