Lewis O'Brien

Didn't Toffolo spend a good chunk of last season injured tho, they went for Renan Lodi on loan in January and he played every game between January and the end of the season as far as I can tell.
And he’s also been rumbled for betting breaches so could get banned !
As ever ITB !

Hang on…

If O’Brien has been “lined up for weeks” and isn’t Berge’s replacement (which I concur isn’t) why haven’t we signed him yet?

Souza has been rumoured for weeks, and people can’t make their mind up who he is meant to replace or which position he will play?

Slimani? He was signed first and also wasn’t to replace Berge, so where does he fit?

Ndiaye has gone and we haven’t got a replacement.

Berge is about to go and we haven’t got a replacement.

It’s a mess.
we havent signed him yet because we wont pay forests asking price of 10m quite simple really

Lewis O'Brien is a solid pro. He knows his limitations and gives 100%. His ability is nowhere near Berge's but he's an upgrade on our current LCM options.

£5m up front, £5m in total add-ons predominantly weighted towards us staying up. We win, Forest win, O'Brien wins.
It depends on the needs of the team too.

Perhaps Berge does have more natural ability, but is Berge better playing out of position at LCM vs O'Brien playing in his favoured position? Midfield is all about how it gels together as a unit in my view.

On the face of it, would seem an ideal Fleck replacement. They won't sell him now though as they won't want him to play against them in their first home game. Ironically Osborn might then play and you never know when ex-players return!

For all my joking about him being a bit of a runaround option there is actually a good player in O'Brien. I'd take him in a heartbeat at the right price, I thought he would've been an excellent signing in Wilder's team when Leeds were sniffing around him a couple of years ago. He's certainly an upgrade on both Fleck and Osborn.

He’s not a £10m player though, we haven’t got that sort of money to be wasting, I’d sooner I’d dig a bit deeper and go for Hamer.

Dear me, we're linked with a player who couldn't get into Forests team after they signed 20-30 players last season and some fans on here are automatically judging him as a shit signing before he's even kicked a ball for us, let alone actually signed for us.

What sort of transfer/player would actually make some of these fans say, good signing or well done to the club for getting this signing over the line, rather than moaning about how they aren't good enough before they even kick a ball.

Not watched Lewis O'Brien, got to say I never saw him play for Huddersfield or certainly can't recall him playing against us.

What type of midfielder is he? Box-to-box, or another Norwood type?

He’s not a Norwood type had a great season at Huddersfield but he was playing in a team that had 10 around him playing with confidence
This is one I just hope we don’t grt

More like prime Fleck than any other of our midfielders I think, didn’t see him at all last season though so just going off when he was at Hudds and they had a decent team. Imagine he’ll be perfectly fine to challenge at top end of championship if we go down

He’s Fleck when Fleck was in L1 with us.

I'd say Fleck with better stamina and natural fitness but less skill and creativity

Probably quite a lot like the Fleck from Jan - May 2019

I’d have him for that reason alone.

I agree he's not as good as other £10m midfielders. The problem is there aren't too many left-sided central/defensive midfielders available. Pretty much all the other rumours for midfielders are for right mids or attacking left mids. Forest have more leverage than we'd like in this because he's a rare commodity that they know we need.

Choudhury and god help me I've just watched Regan Slater play for Hull I thought it was a mistake to let him go but I never thought we'd fall on such hard times that I'd gladly start him in a game for us.

Is it just me that finds the O'Brien highlights underwhelming?
I think they make him look class to be honest.
He looks like a leader, plenty of energy and bite to his game. We looked void of character and ideas in pre season, this lad looks like he'd give us a rocket up our arse.

Likes a challenge, takes his man on, plays a decent pass in behind and doesn't mind having a shot from time to time.

Probably just you
He can actually take the ball past a player or 2 and then pass to a team mate, rather than hit the ball forward as far as he can at the first sight of an opponent

If we sign him I'm behind him but just like the Freeman signing I cannot see what the lad really brings to the team bar being a functional player and that is the least you can expect.

Funny how opinions can differ because it made me more excited by this and willing to pay up to £10m for him haha.

I don’t think there are many (if any) better LCM’s available at the top end of the Championship / lower Prem. Looks like a peak Fleck, can pass, tackle and can drop a shoulder and drive forward. It’s a yes from me!
