that's the end of that then!

edit:

BM poster added the following:

"Spoken again to my RUFC insider. We were interested in him and spoke to RUFC, however there wasn't much dialogue with the player because he'd made it clear he was moving back down south, even if it meant having to go to a 'lesser' team."

hi everyone

what about signing lewis grabban from Bournemouth
looks like they want £5 million for him could be a good signing for us ????

any thoughts blades fans ????

depends on if he wants to play or stay in the reserves at Bournemouth ?????

looks like notts forest are interested !!

Should have signed him when he played for Rotherham,he ripped our defence apart that nite when we played them at Don Valley and Ched scored the winner.

Be a good, proven championship striker. Isn't getting game time at Bournemouth so might be tempted with a move to the lane? Although I imagine there will be others interested too.

Think he’d want at least double the closest rival in the squad wage wise.

We need to be sensible and not lose the team spirit of the last 2 years. Unfortunately that means we can let spubk 30-40k per week on players.

Also reckon that’s why hogan/Gallagher won’t be arriving unfortunately.

Annoying that they're overspending AGAIN! I really hope they don't go up again it makes a mockery of FFP and makes it an unfair playing field.

Brum probably using the money they gave themselves by selling the naming rights for St. Andrew's...to themselves.

We aren't going to pay over £20k per week, which pretty much puts us out of the picture for most recognised forwards in this division. Can you imagine how Clarke and Sharp would feel if we bought in Grabban or Hogan on £30k to £40k a week?

Maybe they'd think they're not as young as they once were but are still happy to be getting a good wage whilst playing for a good (and attacking) team?

Just a comment on the 'we won't pay those type of wages' attitude...We are going to have to up what we are prepared to pay at some point or not only will we struggle to make better class signings but the likes of JOC, Flecky et al will go elsewhere for those kind of wages.

Not only are the parachute sides paying those wages but so are Forest, Derby, Birmingham, Bristol City etc. I'm not saying we go mad but we have to start to compete otherwise we will struggle to progress further. I think at the margin we are doing this but we may have to break the wage structire to sign quality strikers

Agreed. We have to lift the ceiling over the next 2 seasons or we will stagnate. All players will need to be moved up together to keep the harmony in the squad.

Buddeh I already responded to you but you just ignored it / were too stupid to understand it.
Had a look through my notifications and nothing cannot see the official statement from SUFC I even looked on the website.

I totally agree. I've been one of McCabes strongest supporters - without him, we'd have been utterly in the shit. You've only got to think of some of our recent 'owners' to realise that. BUT...we're at a tipping point in our history. We've got a very good manager, have turned our fortunes around and have overtaken Wendy in every sense - league position, crowds etc. We could have gone up last season but no way were we ready for the PL like Wolves or even Fulham were - too much too soon etc. But while we don't want to do a Villa and 'sell the farm' we can't afford to stagnate and become an Ipswich, just happy to sit in the second tier and watch teams like Bournemouth, Watford, Stoke etc. stride on.

For once, we've got a sizeable transfer budget. Let's use it. Sensibly. I'm thinking Grabban or Vydra. The days of 'we can't afford him', 'what about his wages?' must be over or we'll end up like the little old lady afraid to turn on the heating. Is this why Warnock's Blades only lasted one season in the PL? Because he wasn't given enough to compete? Sure, the players he signed were mostly poor, but that's what happens when you shop at Moor Market or - like Wednesday - when you sign players who other teams have had the best out of.

Teams like Leeds, Forest, Wolves, even Wednesday (twice) have found rich buyers, so why not the Blades? Great stadium, city centre location in a 'buzzing' area? We'll never compete with the likes of Villa, but surely we're at least as attractive as Forest? I think it's because Mr. McCabe doesn't want to see his pet project and true love handed over.

Before everyone says we cannot compete for players like Grabbam etc. Let’s see who we sign CW said we are bringing in a better caliber of players so let’s see who comes through door to start against Swansea.
