But thats a different question if he was 25 then great buy at 6m but hes not hes almost exactly 30 & half. Surely if you splash that huge amount you want it to be long term plan like a long rumoured hogan. But instead its alot of money for a short termism, which is just falling into the trap aston villa & wednesday fell into

£5m isn't a 'huge amount' nowadays. Anyways, he's going to Forest. Not as a 'shit or bust' purchase, but as a building block towards a good team who will probably challenge for at least the top six this season.

So onto the next target, unless he's going to cost over £1m, will require paying for his services and is being chased by at team we can't possibly compete with...

true i mentioned on the villa thread that budgets have gone a bit mad with so many players going for £8m - £15m, that its become normal & what used to be top 3 budget is now a midtable budget. but unlike the premier league the prices have gone up but the incomes have remained the same because the tv revenue is the same & ticket price for us certaintly have gone up £50 in a decade + which just means that again 90% of the league are running up big losses in the hope that they get 12% of the promotion places

Confirmed as signing for Forest. Looks like they're going for a "promotion or bust" season.

Nice beard, did ok against a championship defence tonight.

Maybe we are in for him?

Maybe we are in for him?

Hope not, another one looking for a last pay day.

This thread is eleven years old.

Grabban has been on rumour mill longer than 3 of my 4 children have been alive.

If we're not in a position to spend more on that area I don't think I'd say no

Scores goals

Goals are good
Too many injured strikers as it is. Missed 3 months in the new year with an ankle injury, came back then was ruled out for the rest of the season and play offs with an injury Coopet said would take 6-7 weeks to recover from.

Plus hes 34 and will want decent wages....a massive no from me

Based on his attitude and personality when he ended the loan at Sunderland. I would steer well clear. His goal scoring record is ok but he is not invested in who he plays for and he could prove disruptive.

The young lads Jebbo and Osula should be let loose with a sustained run of games instead of signing Grabban

I watched both in their cameos last season. They didn't look ready.

I can't believe that one pre-season later they're suddenly ready to take the league by storm.
Grabban on the other hand is a seasoned campaigner at this level and rarely disappoints. If Forest fans are to be believed his all round game has improved massively and he comes up with big goals.

Outside of Sharp, we have nobody who can be relied upon. It would be prudent to rectify that.

Who said take the league by storm? I didn’t. What I will say is these two are going to be stars, that is not based on cameos, that is watching their progression for the youths. I’m tipping these two to go onto bigger and better things, I tipped Hackford early doors to make his debut before he was 16, (think he missed this by weeks) btw I’ve still very high hopes for Hackford but he has been at and still is the growing stage so has had a few problems but hopefully he can progress well this season. But Jebbo and Osula, either would match Grabbans goal tally if they played the same amount of games without a shadow of a doubt, they would do it easily. You see some folk see a young lad and if they don’t see a world beater then they just can’t see it at all with them, they can’t see the progression the lads can do even with a few months under them. They are both right now better than Grabban. I know the club is really happy with both of them but they might want experience who knows but these two are ready.

Btw the main man will be Brewster regardless who we sign, every other player is after a starting spot alongside him.

Didn’t Brooks go from “about to go on loan “ to first eleven glory in one pre season ?

On what basis do you conclude that they're ready?

Don't get me wrong, they have talent and I've no doubt they have a future in the game.
Hopefully it's here.
But as a club, right now - we're in a rush. We can't give them the run of 10 games they need to find their feet.
It's going to get harder to get back to the PL every season that the parachute payments diminish.

I don't want Grabban but which of Brewster, Ndiaye or Sharp are you dropping to give them a run?

Their development will be much better served by giving them regular football elsewhere.

They were both deemed ready to be in and about the team towards the end of the season. At their age they improve very quickly if they are on an upwards trajectory, the coaching staff believe they are both on an upwards trajectory so even since the end of last season will have improved massively. As I said everyone will be fighting for a starting spot along side Brewster, so I’d say one of them will be out on loan but back to the original point if we are going after 34 year old Grabban either one of the young lads would beat his goal tally if played the same amount of games. But it’s all about opinions and mine means jack shit so the manager may want experience who knows but I’d be disappointed if it was Lewis Grabban taking one of the young lads spot. If it was for someone like Davis you would think fair enough but Grabban? Come on mate you must be on a wind up if you think he would out score these two.

I didn’t say that did I? Never mentioned dropping one of our players for them. I said give these a sustained run of games instead of signing Grabban. If we are going to play Grabban let these lads loose instead as I believe they are ready.

Personally I would have a front 4 to choose from of Brewster, Ndiaye, Jebbison, Osula. I’ve not mentioned Sharp because I’m not sure when he will be ready and at his age now he will be out more times than fit, and will be on the bench more than starting. McB not good enough. So as we know with injury’s if say Brewster is out again we would no doubt recall Jebbison once again just like last season. So we could loan them out and recall them pretty quickly. Me personally I’d keep them both for the first few months of the season at least before thinking of a loan as they will be needed,.

Not seen anything concrete about us being linked with Lewis Grabban?

We still haven't replaced MGW who effectively carried the team alongside a solid defence and Wes, when the injury crisis took hold. To effectively take Forest to the last penalty kick with him and a rejuvenated N'Diaye leading the line and a threadbare bench lacking in attacking experience, was a fantastic effort by PH and this group of players.

Yes we've got promising youth players in Osula and Jebbison, and they are looking sharp early into pre-season, but there's every chance they could end up out on loan if they don't hit the ground running in early August. Then we're relying on McBurnie and Brewster both getting to peak fitness and form after various lay-offs these last two seasons, this is a risk. Sharp is our other option and as much of a legend as he is and we love him, we can't keep relying on a 36 year old to be our main source of goals.

Our defence looks bolstered, and our midfield should remain competitive although we may still need a bit more creativity unless Doyle can be that man. I did read some suggestions from Cardiff fans that he could be deployed in an MGW type role, although he does seem of a more box to box player from clips.

I just can't help but think we need a bit more 'Championship experience' in our attack of course, but with a bit more youth behind them. Grabban is OK at this level, and I wouldn't write him off, but I think we'd be better looking at getting someone like an Adam Armstrong on loan, but his wages may sit outside our remaining budget unless we were to sell Berge for example.

We may be eager and focussed, but “in a rush” certainly not. That is when errors are made.
We are not relying solely on these two for all or most of the season. They have had experience and are not 16 year olds.
They will play an important part in this season’s success. Whether they are then Premiership standard is another question that does not need to be addressed now.
