There are a small minority of pillarks that, week after week, continue to embarrass themselves with what can best be described as a total lack of understanding of what’s going on out there on the grass.

This small minority, unfortunately, make A LOT of noise.

White noise but noise nonetheless !

Congrats to Billy on breaking the record and for his career altogether, but I don't think it was unreasonable for anyone to call him crap today, as other than scoring the goal he was crap today. Breaking a record today doesn't change that and he's been a bit off over the last few games. I'm not knocking him, but we can't paper over the cracks when you can see them with your own eyes. Hopefully this blip will go soon and he'll be back to the same performances that we're used to.

It’s difficult for those of us who grew up watching King Keith in his prime. How do you compare the two ??

Both great at anticipation inside the box. Both knowing exactly where the back of the net is. I’m not sure what the goals/game ratio of the 2 would be but someone will post them.

Billy takes a majority of our penalties so that will boost his numbers, whereas it used to be Colin Morris when Edwards was in his prime. I’m sure Edward used to take a few corners in his day so not being in the box would cut his scoring options down.

For me Edwards just edges it, but only just. We should be grateful of the fact that we have witnessed 2 Blades goal scoring legends over the past few decades.

……. And then there’s Deano !, Christ how do you pick just one ?

Sharps work rate far outweighs Edwards who I used to think was a lazy bastard who was magical at putting the ball in the net. Sharp above Edwards, Deane above them both.

For me Sharp is very similar to Keith Edwards....both having similar styles of being so reliant on service.
Give them plenty of service and both were brilliant at hitting the target and always seems to know how to find a bit of space.
I know Edwards is a legend but I remember plenty of games (especially away from home) when Edwards would hardly touch the bal.
Our fans were booing calling for him to be substituted saying he was crap.....then he'd score a goal....a simple tap in set up by Morris and we'd win.

Regards Sharp and Edwards it didn't matter how they performed really, their scoring records were fantastic.
Natural goal scorers/ poachers and the is a rare ability.

However of course neither come anywhere the level of Brian Deane who excelled and was a big danger to the opposition even at PL level.
Deane had a fantastic physical presence on the pitch, you could see some defenders were fearful just by him being on the pitch
Deane was better than both at headers, better at crossing and faster, he was knocking on the door of the full England squad.

Agree Edwards was incredibly lazy....but you could get away with it in that era....he never crossed the half way line coming back into our half.
Never showed big effort to close anyone down and I can't remember him tackling.
He did nothing when we did have the ball, choosing to conserve his energy then came alive around their box.

Edwards also seemed to be perched on the shoulder of their last defender...always trying to time his runs to beat the offside trap.
We used to laugh....Edwards seemed to be caught offside 12 times every home match.

However when he timed his run right and was clean through with just the goalie to beat....you could bet your life Edwards would score.
He had this skill of running towards the keeper, committing them into a challenge on the floor, then take it around them...scoring into an empty net.

It's a different era now but off the ball Sharp does tons more work.

You don’t have to!

If edwards put in the same effort as billy, he would have blade for England many many times.

I doubt I’ll ever see a goal scorer as good as Billy in a Blades shirt in my life time.

He’s tenacious, passionate, a Blade, a pure goal scorer, a top bloke, gives it away fans…he’s the full package for a Blades fan.

Lap him up lads and lasses. Your kids and grandkids will watch videos of him in years to come and you can sit both on your knee and tell them you were there.

Thought Edwards' work-rate improved in his later years. I'd probably say Edwards the best finisher of the three, Deano easily the best striker of the three. That's not to denigrate Billy as he is a total legend, not just his goals but his all-round work-rate and assists e.g. at Forest.

Logically Billy is second behind Deane for the best striker for us, but as someone hitting his half century this year Keith has the nostalgia feeling as a favourite and my personal 2nd best is Tony Agana but statistically Billy beats him.

Best finisher without a doubt was Keith Edwards, that second chance against Peterborough, one on one with the keeper, would be a goal 100 time out of 100. But Keith would not have created the chances and goals both Deano and Billy created for others Over their time with us.

Often hear this - "... aside from scoring a goal" lark. His job is to score goals & that's usually the difference between the team getting a result, or not. We've nobody else that delivers what he does. For that reason, he plays.

Legend of this club.

That 'aside from scoring a goal' lot don't understand football. To still be an effective striker at this level at his age is a remarkable achievement. He also puts so much work in. You either need to be thick, or a pig (we all know piggies are thick anyway!) to slag him off.

Love Bill and I congratulate him on his achievement and all he’s done in the red and white. But we need to move on now. Aside from pens we are weaker team when he plays. Last couple of months he’s been a passenger
