He will add pace down the flanks which was a major priority in my opinion but i dare say there will be a few disappointed blades out there when this news breaks.

I'm not disappointed with this. In fact I'm very happy with this signing to be honest.

Me too.

Heard a lot about him really, seems very promising. Just what we need too - a young player with something to prove. Not someone who would be here just for the money!

yeah he's in till the end of the season... will add a bit of pace.

i'm pretty happy with it too. Bonus points to the lad for using the phrase "a big club like Sheffield United" as well.

I too am quite optimistic about his signing, i was starting to get a little worried by our lack of activity over the last 10 days or so but Robbo did say that we would have to be patient.

Speed and Martin are a good start, i'm hopeful that another pacey winger (Houlahan?) will join and then anything else is a bonus in my eyes.

Shame he can't play on Saturday. Let's hope he does well for us though.

Sheff Utd Capture Martin on Loan

Sheffield United have signed Manchester United winger Lee Martin on loan for the remainder of the season, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.

"It's a big club with some excellent players and it should be higher up the table than it currently is. This is a big six months for me," he said.
Martin, 20, was previously on loan at Plymouth, where he made 12 appearances and scored two goals. He will be suspended for United's game against QPR on Saturday

Good finish, but lets face it, it was absolutely disgraceful defending.

But to be able hit a ball like that from that distance with your weaker foot!

2 goals in 12 appearances for Plymouth

never even herd of him.

im disappointed with it. we need a winger for our own, not to keep loaning them.

Martin ... Hendrie ... Speed ... Carney

sounds good to me :D
i know martin is unproven but looks good from what iv seen
much better than our midfield starting the season before robbo

Squinn ... Tonge ... Monty ... Keef

It's a brand new midfield though. No pre-season, no real time to gel so I think we're kidding ourselves if we think we will suddenly have the best midfield in the Championship.

As a brief aside - I see Burnley had an offer turned down for Glenn Whelan. I personally would love to see us show some interest in him. I've seen plenty of him over the last 3 or 4 years and I can say undoubtedly he is class. It would however see me heading for divorce and I don't even get married until April.

Whelan is a good shout, depending on figures talking about.

Contract up in the summer, young family, only Prem club to show interest is Bolton (since Derby signed Savage). We've got a chance with an offer around £2m-£3m I reckon.

Well Fergie supposedly rates Robbo :)...

SHEFFIELD United's new signing Lee Martin has revealed that he was persuaded to move to Bramall Lane by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Winger Martin could have extended his existing loan deal with Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle, but opted instead to join the Blades until the end of the season.

Ferguson is convinced that Martin's education will be best served under Blades manager Bryan Robson and his assistant Brian Kidd, who both previously worked and played at Old Trafford.

Martin will miss tomorrow's home game against QPR due to suspension, but could make his debut in the Steel City derby against Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.

"I was already a big admirer of Bryan Robson, but I spoke to Sir Alex and he advised me that this would be my best move," said Martin. "He really 'bigged up' the gaffer here and showed me the light. There is a big challenge here and I am aware that my first game could be against Sheffield Wednesday. Hopefully I can bring a bit of flair, pace and energy to the team."

You see, I think £2 million for a player whose contract is up in the summer, and not even proved at a higher level is too much.

Reading are meant to be interested too though.
