Incoming? Lee Gregory

I think that’s the point though really. He might not be better than the best we have but he’s a lot better and more effective right now than a number of those in reserve.

He's scored quite a few this season already would take him here being a blade and wishing to have a proper spell at the lane this time round would give him more motivation

£6m should be enough to find some bloody pace and quality up front!
Maybe a little bit of investment in scouting and recruitment should be the next investment.
We need to turn our attentions to the continent nownif we’ve really exhausted the options at home. (Options in our budget)

Should we be looking at LG as a back up plan if Wagga goes to Boro. Goal and an assist yesterday. Strong, quick, 6’2”

And most important of all he’s a Blade.

10 goals playing almost every game last season, to replace Leon or Billy who scored 19 and 14 last season?

No thanks, another with no pace, don’t understand the obsession

we need a pacey strong striker who can get us 20+, i can't see any of the strikers we have now getting 20+

Same old names being thrown about now. Not sure Gregory is exactly what we're after.

Can we invent some rumours we haven't already got a million page thread on please. sick of hearing the same old garbage being spouted.

At this stage of the window he'd probably cost more like 4m and that is a lot but he would improve us. Can't see it happening to be honest, Millwall would be very stupid to sell him now, with little time for a replacement.

He’s a decent striker but no better than what we have in my opinion. I wouldn’t pick him ahead of the current three. This would be a waste of money, sorry Lee.

Oh FFS

If we ignore Adam Armstrong to sign someone like Gregory then..... my comments will get me in a lot of trouble.
Ludicrous we didn't sign Armstrong at the fee he's gone for. It's not even a gamble. Any relegated League One side would sign him for the same price we signed him for.

Exactly, No better than what have.
Would be silly spending money to bring him in and push Billy further down.
Both Billy and Leon scored more than him last season, and he has no pace which is the one thing we need.

Prefer that we just play Billy week in week out, and he’ll score goals same as Gregory would but doesn’t improve us.

I really don't understand the surprise or negativity surrounding this rumour/link. CW is a well known, long term admirer of LG and a number of people seem to be basing their view on a single game last season when he admittedly didn't have one of his best games.

Reading some of the Millwall's supporters views of how he's performed over the previous few seasons including the standing ovation he received on Saturday for his MotM inc. scoring performance may be a better indicator.

I, for one, would be very much in favour of him being signed. Contrary to the views of some others above, I think he's certainly an improvement on the current strikers and would add some much needed mobility up front.

Whilst it's not the be all and end all, he is a huge Blade (check out the tattoo on his calf!), comes from the area (& used to play Meadowhall League football @ Warminster Rd) and I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to move back given the chance.

I very much doubt Millwall would want to sell so it may cost to prise him out.

Not the worst player just a climb down on what we were aiming for...

Imo the issues people will have are -

- We won’t get him cheap given the market
- he’s pushing 30 so doesn’t represent a long term solution
- don’t think he’s better than what we have
- might be slightly more mobile but don’t think that he’s particular physical and certainly not pacy.
- personal opinion but it shows a lack of ambition (he’s not a top end championship striker is he?)
- better, younger alternatives have either gone (Armstrong) or are still out there (Bradshaw)

My opinion is this would have been a good signing 12 months ago instead of ched maybe. Now it’s merely another body cos we have left ourselves short, he’s not going to propel us up the league or get 15-20 goals.

Differences of opinions are healthy and I guess we have them about Gregory.

In response to the particular points you make BiL:

- We won’t get him cheap given the market - AGREED, IT IS LIKELY TO COST TO LAND HIM AT THIS POINT
- he’s pushing 30 so doesn’t represent a long term solution - IN AN IDEAL WORLD YES, BUT WE NEED A STRIKER FOR THIS SEASON. MAKING SIGNINGS WITH A LONG TERM VIEW (SCOUGALL, McNULTY + PLENTY OF OTHERS WHO DIDN'T DEVELOP) HASN'T WORKED TOO WELL SO FAR IN RECENT TIMES
- don’t think he’s better than what we have - DISAGREE ON THIS POINT - I THINK RIGHT NOW HE'S A SIMILAR TYPE OF PLAYER BUT BETTER THAN SHARP
- might be slightly more mobile but don’t think that he’s particular physical and certainly not pacy - I DON'T THINK HE'D BE BOUGHT TO BE A PHYSICAL TYPE BUT AGAIN I FEEL HE CERTAINLY HAS MORE PACE THAN SHARP (AND I'D BET ALL OTHER STRIKERS AT THE CLUB (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF LAVERY WHO ISN'T BEING CONSIDERED TO PLAY)
- personal opinion but it shows a lack of ambition (he’s not a top end championship striker is he?) - DESPITE WHAT CW SAYS / FEELS UTD AREN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO ATTRACT A TOP END CHAMP STRIKER - OTHER CLUBS WILL SIMPLY GAZZUMP US BOTH IN TERMS OF FEE AND WAGES. THE ONLY POSSIBLE OPTION WOULD BE A LOAN FOR SOMEONE LIKE GALLAGHER
- better, younger alternatives have either gone (Armstrong) or are still out there (Bradshaw) - I@M OF THE OPINION THAT RIGHT NOW GREGORY IS BETTER THAN BOTH.

I agree - it would be boring if we all thought the same.

I’d certainly support him if we brought him in and I know the millwall fans do really rate him. I’m just concerned with the potential outlay and that he’s the level of quality we need to progress.

I just had hoped given the money available (CW himself said we have touched the Brooks money yet) we have been able to sort it a definite improvement and long term solution.

I’d be happy if it was LG and a quality attacking midfielder however.

we need a pacey strong striker who can get us 20+

Who?

On those requirements I say that would cost £10m +

I would settle for Pacey and capable of 10 + goals this season, that should be around the £5m mark in this market and around our budget. God knows who though.

....and any pacey striker who can bang in 20+ a season would demand higher wages than Waghorn :)

All that money to spend yet we are still looking at cheap second rate options . Aim higher blades .... please.

Here's a wacky thought: why don't we just play the striker already on our books who's scored 64 goals in the last 3 seasons rather than pursuing players who aren't demonstrably better than him but will cost a hell of a lot more?

There’s the entire world to scout.

We need a proper scouting network that’s not limited to just 4 divisions. We have money to invest in this infrastructure and we need to do it imo to avoid getting blown out of the water.

We are fighting with one hand behind our back with wages and this is a way round it imo.
