Bladey Claptrap. It doesn’t make a scrap of difference in professional football. It’s not the Sunday Sports League. How many extra yards is Bladey Billy going at the moment?

Gregory isn’t good enough. The fact that you might know him and call him Greggs doesn’t alter that proposition I’m afraid.

Only in S2 (and S13)...

Have you got a clue about football, course it's a bloody advantage having a few Blades in the squad, Dave Bassett at one point had 5 in, take it cockney Bassett was full of "Bladeyclaptrap" too. DB knew the value of team spirit, as does Wilder and having local lads (especially Blades, whether you like that or not) only adds too it. If you can't see that then you haven't really got a clue about team sports.

You’ve not seen many previous posts of Pinchys have you?

He’s the sort of person who wasn’t good enough himself but likes to tell others how the game ‘should’ be played. He’s not a fan of ‘Dave Bassett’.

I know for a FACT that we enquired about him when we got promoted but once Millwall went up the deal died. Heard nothing since

More Bladey Claptrap.

Will definitely be interested in the summer when he becomes a free agent.

Might as well sign him, we'll have far more ITKs on here then.

Another to add to the 30+ club in the summer then

Good player, mind.

Just wish we'd sign one or two with potential and potentially huge resale value - Jordan Hugill has just gone for fucking £12,000,000 of the Queens of English. And he isn't exactly outstanding is he?

I agree, always nice to sign a player with potential re sale value, as in order to get that re sale value they have to perform. only issue is people want players with re sale value and then complain when we re-sell them

Be disappointed personally if Gregory is the standard and age we're looking at in the summer irrespective of budget

Would be a decent signing on a Free.

Thought he looked good when they beat us at The Den and wou

I'd be disappointed if he was our main signing but on a Free on what will probably only be reasonable wages I think he'd be a decent addition.

He looked good when they beat us at The Den and looked like a more mobile version of Billy and a lot stronger than i remembered from before.

Depends what you define as "huge" - tend to be (desperate) purchases for forwards / goalscorers
Surely the following would garner decent coin - especially when c/f with we paid (or didn't pay !?)

Brooks 'we wuz robbed' if flogged for <12m according to 'conventional wisdom (sic) on ere)
Fleck - < 8m bandied about by ITK'ers
JOC - ? 6m? - the figure that Brizzel C allegedly knocked back for the twat that netted in last minute

Conservatively £ 500 - 750k each?
Stevens,
Balldock ?

Also worth more that the 750ish we paid - IF [big if] they progress/ advance as many do under CW/AK tutelage:
Evans (NOT Ched)
Leonard

IF my 'valuations' (sic) are owt like that gives Uncle Kev £30m for an outlay afore wages of <2m - hope 'he's not reading this !

I read somewhere that Millwall have an extension clause. But this puts him only with one year if he kicks off he’ll be able to leave.

For me he would be the first signing I would try for in the summer. Sell Lavery / Hanson use the wages and some investment to bring him in.

Would really help our squad.

With the greatest of respect to Donaldson and to the two above mentioned players, saying thanks and bringing in Gregory would give us some genuine quality in terms of strength in depth. Sharp, Clarke and Gregory would all be of similar capability and you could argue would be as far as the budget might extend unless fortunes change. Throw in Brooks and Holmes as alternative options and still looks pretty good.

'Similar capability'. Isn't the idea that you're supposed to replace your current players with better ones?

I think we should be aiming much higher than Lee Gregory for improvements to our forward line.

I'd have no problem with it if one of the other old guard was leaving.

Come next season, we'd have:

Gregory 30
Sharp 32
Clarke 33
Donaldson 34 (oddly, the last 3 were all born in February)

Presumably,

Evans, Lavery and Hanson will leave.

It would only leave us one spot to basically bring someone in with youth and pace. Which we need if we want to push for promotion.

Millwall have an automatic extension if they stay up.. which is due to activate anytime now as they’re not far from mathematically safe. So gregs doesn’t become a free agent. He’s also one of millwalls star players and I doubt they would be willing to sell unless it’s for a daft amount. Il be very suprised if this happens in the summer now. The chancetk sign him went when millwall won the playoffs.

To be honest are any of our current crop of strikers good enough for a sustained promotion push?

Taking off my rose-tinted glasses, apart from his purple patch Leon has been bang average, Billy has been the same, although he has chipped in with vital goals, (as has the Don) but the contribution of the rest isn't even worth mentioning.

I would be surprised if we start next season, whichever league we may be in with ANY of the current strikers....

What, the 2 strikers with 15 and 12 goals receptively? The joint best striking partnership in the league?

The problem isn't Sharp or Clarke. The problem is that none of the other strikers are good enough, especially when we're up against it. We have no one who can create from nothing. No one with real pace or power.

Granted but at a combined age of nearly 70 next year I stand by my comments

Out of interest MB - who, realistically, would you like Utd to target if you don't think Gregory is good enough?
I don't know mate but the management will. I would expect us to push the boat out a bit and steal a well known championship player off of someone. We must be an attractive club to players as we play the right way. With some decent backing behind us and we should be pushing for the prem so that's a carrot to dangle as well as upping the wage structure for the club.

I just don't think LG is any better that what we have now that's all.
