Leaving cups out of it is this season a write-off?

Not at all. Losing to MK Dons means nothing. We were never (or a least in my opinion) going to be challenging for automatic promotion with out squad, so results against the top sides mean nothing. We need to beat the Rochdales & Bradfords of this world to secure a top 6 spot and hope we can win the lottery of the playoffs. No need to give up on the season just yet!

Win the Play Offs? We could have our own less glorious version of the "5 times" scouse chant.

5 times! It's only taken 5 times!

Wank and anyone happy with this season or NN overall should give their head a wobble.

Like I said in the shoutbox we have scored at Wembley now.

So at least we know we might get a goal if we do make the final.

Why would you leave cups out of it? Do they not count?
To me cups are ancillary entertainment whereas the life blood of any club and its measure of success is the league performance. I would take poor performances in the cups for 2/3 games each season if we were being given exciting football every week in the PL or Championship. 4 years in this piss poor league says to me we are failing as a club even if we have good cup runs.

Ok, but they're still competitive games played by the first team and most of the games have been against far superior opposition than the league.. Or in today's instance, we've played MK Dons in the league and cups.

I'm not saying that all is rosy, it's not in terms of league form, but to just dismiss cup results takes away any credibility from this thread

I am confident that we will be in the top six come the end of the season. I doubt the likes of MKD or Preston will relish playing us in the semi or final.

The top two spots are out of reach now, unless the teams above us have a major wobble and I can not see that happening to all four.

We can win the play-offs don't you know.

KTF , HH

Pretty much.

Even if we somehow put together a run of 5/6/7 wins we still won't be troubling the top two.

Frankly, even going up by the Play-offs is a semi-failure.

We are short of strikers and have been since the end of last season.

We still need two strikers to be in good shape for the Play-offs if we make them.

We have all been to Wembley too often without strikers.

We still haven't replaced Evans, or Blackman to a lesser extent.

This must be one of the worst baron spells in terms of strikers in the club's history.

We'll know by the time we've played Bristol City away. If we're a few points off 6th place still things will be difficult for us.

Seriously HH? I am no where near as hopeful as that. MKD have done us twice in the league and we haven't scored a single goal against them. They have us completely sussed - Robinson plays a different tactic in league matches against us and prevents us from getting any shots on target then nicks one at the other end as we doze off.

Preston, I'll grant you couold be beaten - but they are very likely to get even more physical in a POSF and kick lumps out of us - so I can see them prevailing over two games whilst we all cry foul and whinge about being bullied out of it

The Swindon game will be season defining

I'll let you know in May when the season ends , not in January , knee jerk reaction by Blades fans ,
Nah everybody's levelheaded on here and willing to give the manager of OUR club the benefit of a full season .
UTB.

no one game is defining win our game in hand we are 5th , play offs were always my choice around 4th , but with clough who actually got us to score 3 at wembley , and we wont be playing a prem team, still 66 points to play for

Yeah it was fantastic losing 5-3 at Wembley
talk about accepting mediocrity

Lose that and we can finally say goodbye to auto. They are the benchmark in this league small club, small budget, small support big ambition.

Knee jerk? fucking priceless
Knee jerk , no sack Sir Dave for not saving us from relegation that would have been knee jerk .
You don't have to tell me it's shit to watch , but prepared to wait till end of season before forming a more realistic balanced
view of the season as a whole , not in January that's all .

You are joking about Mk & Preston aren't you Hartley ? or have you missed the fact that MK have taken 6 points off us this season ?.

weve lost to 4th in the league , a team Robinsons had 4 years to fashion , not great but it wasnt losing 3-0 at crewe, they did flatten man utd 4-0 , so are hardly cannon fodder

Aye, having turned us over home and away, MK Dons will be terrified of us.

You'd sack any manager who did well in the cups every year but kept their club at its lowest ebb in over 125 years of existence. So though you make a good point, the cups are nothing more than a sideshow.
