Football culture amongst some fans (not all of us) has a long long way to go and anything to improve fairness and decency for any Blade has to be a good thing. We are definitely not there with race or gender and no where near with sexuality.

I sit in a lot of match day trains and pubs and what I overhear would in no way be acceptable in the workplace or hopefully their homes, yet it gets espoused on match days. So, anything that goes even some small way to making going to a football match to support your team less awkward for people has to be a good thing.

Ps- I'm not gay, left wing, black, a woman, etc but am hugely motivated by fairness and feel very strongly that no one should feel excluded from being able to feel the same love I have for Sheffield United.

Surely there is value in knowing the proportion of male to female supporters, in terms of providing appropriate facilities (toilets really, I suppose)? There may be other areas where women are insufficiently catered for (I'm not a woman, I don't know).

It's probably more about the cynical marketing stuff in reality, but I don't have a problem with the club asking that particular question as I can imagine it being relevant.

I find it quite ironic that you use the term 'Christian nutters', yet don't use the term 'Muslim nutters' to denounce those who wish to see homosexuals killed and have actually made it illegal to be a homosexual in many of their counties....unlike Western Christian nations or these Britain First 'Christian nutters' who as far as I'm aware don't hold any of these views or practices.

Perhaps the gay rights lobby should focus their campaigns on countries that don't actually have any gay rights? Maybe start with the ones where gay people are thrown off roofs?

I didn't describe ISIS as muslim nutters because I thought that was a given. Not because I don't think they are. But if it makes you happier then yes, they are muslim nutters - and there are many more muslim nutters not as extreme as them even.

My comparing the far right with ISIS was obviously tongue in cheek - though there is an irony in that Islamists are socially VERY conservative and facist in the extreme.

As for campaigning against foreign countries with barbaric laws such as Saudi, Qatar etc. then yes, of course these places are abysmyl and should be held accountable - however why does that mean people shouldn't have equal rights in western society? Perhaps living in western society means any sense of persecution felt here is probably a bit more pressing than what goes down in Yeman?

Football should be about football whether you are black, white, straight or gay. The current campaign is about being welcoming to a group of people who may have previously felt excluded from this fantastic game.

Maybe so that as a progressive club we can target advertising, programme contents, events, work in the community, consider support levels and funding for the womens/girls teams within the club and community and maybe on a basic level to decide on provision of male and female toilet facilities so that Bert doesn't have to squat over a male urinal or use a she wee.

I am surprised a person of Berts standing would need this pointing out.........

I'm getting on in life now and to be fair we`ve come a long way from the old days of racial and homophobic bigotry and a big well done to those who see skin colour or sexuality as perfectly natural and a part of our world today. One can`t choose their skin colour ( Phil Brown & David Dickinson apart ) or their sexual preference being either Hetro, Bi, Gay or lady gay ( lesbian ).. I`m sure we must have a healthy following of these types supporting our beloved clubs as do all other clubs but what happens when a new word hits the streets of society in the name of " NON BINARY " or " GENDER NEUTRAL " as its called?.... Where did this spring up from?
Someone stating they are neither male nor female!!

How the hell does that one work??

I feel a slight irony here that you brand anybody who has a faith a nutter and then talk about persecution? The Christian dominations have made massive efforts to be fair and inclusive with all areas of our society.

It's not simply a message of welcome. It's a statement that Sheffield United now hold beliefs about sexuality and gender that no one had heard of a couple of decades ago.

It's good to be welcoming, but it's a philosophical position to hold that gender is a social construct or that gender is defined, not by the body, but the mind. When you fly that flag, you say you agree with this.

In regards to football I don't see the point in trying to force footballers to come out to be some sort of role model. Maybe the reason they don't want to come out is because they don't want to be this public role model. Maybe like most of us they want to keep there private life private. Then you aren’t looking hard enough.
Why are women paid significantly less than men to do the same role? How are they protected from the disadvantae of having to leave the workplace for a period to have children?
Why is their voice not equally representing in the boardrooms up and down the country?
There are so many default states whereby the society we live in as been controlled by men for men for so long it’s almost second nature and challenges women face aren’t even considered.

Sure it’s slowly changing for the better but it’s nowhere near equal or fair currently.
