Confirmation of Brooks' loan move to Chesterfield.

Good that Reed will finally be going on loan.

Good that it seems we'll have no problem offloading the listed players.

Good that he wants a squad of at least 24 - I highly doubt the positions mentioned are the only ones he wants.

And I'm actually glad O'Shea's stalling - I don't think it's worthwhile for us or him and would free us up a bit more to sign players more likely to play more games.

"CW wants a squad of 24. Adding he wants 2 centre backs, 1 midfielder, and 2 wingers".

But not another striker ? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The two wingers are interesting. One would give us variety and a different approach, as needed, depending on circumstances. Two suggests he might be considering playing with wingers as a preferred option. Which in turn might imply a flat 4 at the back ?

he doesnt have to do all his business in the summer if he is signing another striker that might be in january

...I wouldn't mind starting with what we've got and seeing how thing's pan out tbh...of course it would be great if a quality striker became available and willing to join, perhaps a loan...but all being well, we're not far off.

But then also wanting two centre backs to add to JO'C, Wright and Basham. If it were a flat back-four then presumably that'd be JO'C + 1, with a new CB, Wright and Basham all being back-up which seems excessive.

Would assume he knows we'll have to change t up for some games, a flat back four for the tougher games and our usual 3-5-2 for the others.

Another option would be a winger/striker to add something different to our attacking line.

Really interesting over the two winger targets. I can only guess that Wilder wants wingers so we can adapt to playing a more traditional system at times. I hope we persist with the 3-5-2 though since its worked so well, but Wilder knows best that's for sure. No mention of signing a left wing back/left back either?! Maybe that's because that deal is already done for Stevens.

same as last season he isn't mentioning names until the deal is done did the same thing with ched he wouldn't talk about it until he'd signed on the dotted line

Signing 2 centre backs is no shock as Wilson is going and EEL has gone back.

If EEL comes back then i would imagine one more centre back to compensate Wilson leaving.

It also indicates that it won't be a massive wage and he has probably been told that he would be a squad player at best. So even if he does end up signing it is on our terms or not at all.

So with him saying he wants a squad of 24 and confirmation that Reed, Whiteman and Brooks and almost certainly Wilson, Hussey and Done won't be part of the squad that takes the current number down to 17 with Brayford also quite likely to leave, as well as possibly one or two others. So a squad of 15-17 before new signings.

This would mean a total of up to 9 signings, as I expected.

The positions he's not mentioned there are goalkeeper, RB/RWB, number 10 and striker. It's just a question of how many of those he has mentioned could also play those positions - CB at RB, winger at number 10 or up front for example.

Personally I think we can add at least 2 to what he's stated there, with Riley likely to be one of them.

We've currently lost EEL and James Wilson (listed) so it makes send for the 2 CB's to me - I'm more surprised about not wanting another striker (first choice)

This interview from Alan Biggs with top man Kevin Gage is interesting re the formation and the possible signing of wingers which Wilder said today. Gagey said that Wilder spoke to him and another of ex Blades and it was Wilders intention to play 4-4-2 and play a traditional more direct style than what ended up seeing, although we ll remember we started this season with a 4-3-2-1 from memory. Skip to 6 minutes of the video clip and maybe Wilder wants to go with wingers again next season. Personally I love great wing play, direct, but not long ball but we had that this season in terms of direct but not long ball but without wingers. I love how we played with Freeman and Lafferty but we do lack someone who can drop the shoulder and have a turn of pace and skin a man, hopefully with a goal or assist.

Think O'Shea is a decent enough player, but if the rumours are true about Oztumer, then I'd much rather have him over O'Shea. Personal opinion but I think he would offer more to the team with goals and assists, from what I've seen of him he would definitely push Duffy for a starting role aswell.

I don't see us not signing another striker, or at least someone who can play up front. Alan Nixon (Sun journo) said yesterday we 'might spend heavy on a striker'. So maybe it will be a case of wait and see what's available.

As for Ebanks-Landell, I wouldn't be against it if we could get him for a sensible fee, maybe exploiting the situation at Wolves. 350k or less is what I'd consider.

I wonder if the wingers will be Chapman on loan again and the guy from Hartlepool? Read somewhere that both clubs were keen on the idea re. Chapman.

I think the winger comment is more aimed at having players to allow us more tactical flexibility next season. This season our options were basically 3-4-1-2 or a 4-2-2-2 with a midfield diamond: we didn't have anyone who could stretch the pitch. With Championship sides' pitches being bigger (I think?) it makes sense to have one or two options on the bench to allow us to go to a 4-4-2/4-5-1/4-2-3-1.

I also don't think EEL isn't good enough for a Championship team: we should be looking at the lower leagues for a young backup centre half to transition the team from Wright/Basham to Semple & Graham, assuming they continue to develop. It's worked for Barnsley with Mawson (signed from Brentford after a season on loan at L2 Wycombe) and Roberts (signed from just-relegated-from-the-Conference Halifax).

O'Shea has probably been offered a L1-level contract to be a squad player for a Championship team with some sizeable incentives for first team appearances. If that is the case (wild speculation on my part!) then it's canny management. I know Wilder's spoken about simplifying contracts but appearance fees are standard.

I totally agree. I'd much rather have oztumer as I'm not sure O'Shea will be able to deliver the quality on a regular basis that will be needed?. I'm sure wilder is thinking the same and reviewing his options!!. In wilder we trust

This could be relevant to us too.

So Adeyemi is out of contract. We could well offer him a deal.
