It's looking like 6th place this season will need a very low points total. Peterborough have 58 points from 38 games = just over 1.5 points per game - extrapolated to the end of the season, that means about 70-71 points is likely to be good enough for 6th.

If we take 71, we therefore need 20 points from 9 games , which is 6 wins 2 draws and a defeat. A very tall order, but not impossible. I would say we have about a 20% chance of getting 6th.

If we were on a tropical expedition I'd be slapping you round the face right now and saying "Dammit man, pull yourself together!"

That's it, I'm writing an old-timey adventure novel, basing the two leads on you pair and putting that scene in!

Peterborough's run in is very easy, we will need more than 20 points IMO
With one end of Peterborough's ground resembling our John Street side during the 1994/95 season (Dave Bassett nicknamed it "Fred West Garden") I think the lack of atmosphere will make it difficult for Peterborough to lift themselves up in their home matches

All about dem games in hand, namely Brentford and Rotherham at home. If we can win those and maintain an (almost) unbeaten run until the end of the season, then we'll do it.

HOWEVER, I think that Clough & co will be secretly relieved if we miss out on the play-offs this term. If we go up via play-offs this season, then next season will be an attritious, miserable relegation battle. Clough will be under pressure to stay up in The Championship with a mid-table League 1 side. It will not be enjoyable. We will risk another embarrassing drop to the third tier, and those hairy-handed troglodytes from South Barnsley will have a field day, oinking and snorting with glee as their porcine-hooved grip on the coveted "Not quite mid table but avoiding relegation nonetheless" area of The Championship remains in place for yet another dull season. How massive that club must be, eh?

On the other hand, if we miss out on play-offs this season, I think it's a very positive thing in the long run. A top 10 finish would have been unthinkable even 2 months ago, and the cup run has given us something to shout about this season. We don't need to finish top 6 for this to be a good season; it already is.
Staying in this division for another season gives Clough a whole summer to instil his full regime. He can sweep away the dead wood and bring in some real quality players. Sheffield United can finally have that season in League 1 we all assumed we'd have had by now, winning the majority of games, scoring for fun and topping the league consistently throughout the year - essentially the season Wolves are having this time round, and that Charlton had the other year. Then we can sail on up to the 2nd tier a year older, wiser and with a much stronger squad than we have now. We'd be giving ourselves a much greater chance of staying up in the 2nd tier doing things that way. That would also be the best chance in years for us to actually win something (barring a dreamlike cup final victory on May 18th, of course.)

So I'm not that arsed. Obviously, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings, and obviously, I would be first in line for tickets come the time if we get to the play-off final, but I do think that this is the first season in our League 1 years where we would actually benefit from staying there for another season.

That’s based on their form throughout the season. If you base it on their recent form only (i.e. last 8 games), they should get about 68 points. MK Dons should get about 67 points based on their last 7 matches.

Blades would get around 73 points based on their last 9 matches but we’re unlikely to keep up the same form.

Based on our opponents recent form trends, we will need 18 more points. I.e. 6 wins and 3 defeats or 5 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat. It’s achievable.

What's the maximum people think MKdons can get from their next seven games?

What makes you think that in the (very unlikely) event that we did get promoted this season that Clough would not "sweep away the dead wood and bring in some real quality players"? He would have a lot more money to do that with.

I don't think we will get promoted, but would love it if we did. I really don't hold with this "let's not get promoted as we might struggle at the level above" argument.

We are building something special and think going up this season would be fantastic for two reasons alone, Conor Coady and John Brayford.
As a chanpionship club I would be almost certain both would play for us next year - also we would be in a far stronger positiin to bring in a striker of the ilk Clough is after and I would fancy us to be mid table at worst.

If we did manage to make the playoffs then I'd wager there would be at least 10k more at BDTBL than the 15k that forced themselves to go to the Yeovil game.

I agree, I don't see any problem with getting promoted, if we've got the cash which we allegedly have then theres no reason we cant sign a few quality championship players and keep hold of some of our lot. If we stay in this division then we may have to rebuild and start again as this run will have certainly attracted the attention of clubs higher up who will be keen to nick our best players.

Nice beard!

I agree too. I think Nigel, with the backing I'm sure he'll get, would see us comfortable in the League above. In fact, if the final game were Leicester City away......

Are we allowed to skip the championship and go straight to the premier league as a reward for our herculean second half of the season efforts? Because that's the only way we'll be playing Leicester in the final game of next season.;)

That's a very good point! The bit about us going straight to the Prem, I mean!

One game at a time, we will beat Swindon away, Brentford and Rotherham at home will be tougher.

I can see MK shit plastics or us overtaking Posh.
