Len you are going to have to explain that science mate. I spend a huge amount of time pitching to investors trying to get them to give me money (admitedly I take 25 million as a minimum investment so I am not used to the chump change Strafford is trying to raise) but i do not see how this bid will help them raise the required capital.

How much easier do you think it is if you've got the potential selling point of hosting games for the biggest event in the world?
It ain't rocket science.
Not necessarily easy but definitely easier.
Similarly when you're shoving your prospectus around investors - it's a handy selling point.

Oh yeah, look here gentlemen. Here we have a stadium that will play host to numerous international footballers, none of whom will ever play for our league one club. But they will be here! Unless we flood with shit... Again. Dude.

I take it you probably don't get too many handing over the cash.
Can't help you if you can't see it makes a difference.
As it happens, it sounds like investment is coming their way in any case.
We're probably going to get some more flannel on Friday about Hungary, China, Sao Paulo, Timbuktoo etc.

anyone????

A large space where fans go and watch the game on giant screens. Usually next to the ground or close by.

Incidentally, I thought we could've utilised Sheffield FC's proposed new ground up at Olive Grove if this really was the sticking point?

anyone????

Fanzone is the area where FIFA put up a big screen and show all the matches.

Its free to get in and its a family safe area, but they sell beer and merchandise by FIFA's sponsors at FIFA's prices.

In Germany the Fanzones were in some of the Old Town square's and had capacity's ranging from a couple of thousand to tens of thousands

If McCabe planned the expansion of BDTBL on the off chance solely of getting the world cup games in 2018 he's gone down in my estimations !

But somehow i don't think he has ! :D

Exciting times at BDTBL.

Devonshire Green isn't a million miles away either. That could have been used also.

That alien is having a larf :D

Come on Len explain it to me really slowly so I can learn something. I may be able to add to the 1.8 billion I have raised in the last 16 months.

Big deal, I've raised £10billion in the last six.
If you can't see how the prestige of hosting World Cup matches plays out, not much I can do for you son.

I cant see how it increases the return on your investment no. Len are you actually Tevor Birch then ;-)

Depends if the bramall lane chiefs had the foresight to include it in the bid. If they didn't then it's hardly the FA's fault. I doubt it'd be big enough anyway.

Regardless, the decision to go with hillsborough over BDTBL is an absolute fucking joke a disappointment, but we should be wishing the grunters good luck in the bid. The world cup would be a big boost for the city as a whole.

They way I saw it any potential investors now have to also have the funds to improve their ground probably putting at least £10 Million extra in.

How will that improve the chances?

Shoes off to The FA!

World Cups aren`t for having at home, they are for travelling.

Never been in favour of Englands bid, but couldn`t quite bring mi sen to criticise it because of our bid.

Gloves off now  oh and why have a Irish Geezer planning an England World Cup Bid, cmon Spain .......

Yeah shoes may not be the best option at this time of the year.

Anything which substantially enhances the prestige of a product or service enhances its potential value.
I didn't say it was a magic wand but it does make it easier to open doors and attract attention which is half the battle as any half decent salesman would know.

Oh no, it wouldn't be big enough. But it could be one of many in and around the city centre.

Having the ground deemed worthy of the biggest tournament in the world?
Hmm, it's a tough one.
More than anything, it underlines our failure to cement what should have been our position as top dogs.
The only antidote would be significant success on the pitch ahead of them in the coming years (and not just finishing higher in this ferkin league).
And hoping Spain or someone else is now chosen.

Please tell me you're not being sarcastic. They are a complete and utter laughing stock and this news does absolutely nothing to change that whatsoever. I'm sure Dude will be banging on about this for months to come but it doesn't change the fact they have a shit team, have just sacked a decent manager, have zero investment and are heading into the trap door.

Has a Third Tier team ever hosted a World Cup match?

Can someone please answer my funding question?

How are they affording this £20 million upgrade?

Is it all coming from grants? If from whom, Central government?

I like the spin put on it by our OS...

i was told that hillsborough park couldnt be used as a fanzone as its too close to the ground and would cause traffic congestion with both the ticketless fans and the ones with tickets all trying to get to the same place

Yes, the spin was highly amusing. I imagine Kevin will find it difficult to bite his tongue on Friday.

My reaction was 'Wtf..???? How can anyone in their right minds, (who isn't a lifelong Wendy...) imagine for one second that a brokendown pile of shit, owned by a bust football club, is possibly the better ground???

Far from being a big boost, this is a chronic embarrassment, not for the Blades but for Sheffield itself. I dont want people travelling from all over the world to sit in that scrap yard. Better that we lose the bid and no-one turns up at Hillsborough, just like any other Saturday...

UTB, down with the World Cup...Booooooooo!
