Will the new Kop and extended South Stand be ditched or amended now that we haven't got the World Cup at the Lane if we host the 2018 finals?

Did we ever think the Lane would be chosen after the Tevez affair? Good job that England have no hope of winning the bid for the 2018 World Cup anyway!

Huge blow. Certainly for McCabe. Can't say I'm too bothered but it was the only chance to further improve the stadium.

Can only assume that Hillsboro Park and the fanzone is the deciding factor but it is a pretty incredible decision all the same.

I wonder if we'll get the £100k back off Sheffield FC?

World Cup Bid - The tide has turned

A big failure by SUFC not to have won the bid in Sheffield and a big plus for SWFC now in terms of imminent investment.
Now time to drop all the silliness about shiny new stadiums which we won't now need and concentrate on the team and the team only.
Sad day.

But would you really rather be in their position Lenners?

Millions of pounds in debt with the bank and investment that doesn't cover it?

A Chairman who got sacked from his previous job with two bob to rub together?

A rust bucket ground that's gonna need more money spending than they have to get it looking ship shape?

I'm sad because I have seen one World Cup match in Sheffield, West Germany 5 Switzerland 0 in 1966 and would have liked a match at the Lane to make up the pair

But would you really rather be in their position Lenners?

Having the ground deemed worthy of the biggest tournament in the world?
Hmm, it's a tough one.
More than anything, it underlines our failure to cement what should have been our position as top dogs.
The only antidote would be significant success on the pitch ahead of them in the coming years (and not just finishing higher in this ferkin league).
And hoping Spain or someone else is now chosen.

England Bid 2018

So United have missed out on hosting Costa Rica vs Egypt nearly 10 years from now.

I say don't be down heartened people, rejoice in the fact that the club has no need to waste money on expanding the ground to unfillable proportions.

I think watching Lee Strafford fall on his face when it comes to delivering the stadium he has dreamed up will be fooking hilarious for all us Blades.

Also the main reason the Pigs won the bid is Hillsborough park.

Where was the fan park going to be if the Lane had been chosen? The car park?!

I find it incredible that the sty has been chosen over the lane.
It has been proven in past semi-finals that it is very difficult to get to, and traffic chaos in the city meant fans getting there late.
After Boro v chesterfield I heard because of all the problems that it was never going to be used again.

Len, chill. The FA will not have Shefffield and Leeds as host cities when the final venues are deceided. (Ditto Newcastle and Sunderland.) I wuold assume this decision is based more on the proximity of the park near the sty. At any rate England has to win the bid first and given the country is bankrupt I really cannot see that happening.

What's the Fanzone?

I wasnt fussed about the World Cup either way (I dont plan to be living in the UK by the time it comes round) but I really, really hope England doesnt get it now.

We have the sound turned down on the TVs in the office, was any reason given for choosing the sty over the Lane?

The new Anfield will never be built

The new Forest ground will never be built

The new Bristol ground will never be built

Hillsborough will never be upgraded

The Olympic Stadium is scheduled to be downgraded to 15,000 after the games then upgraded to 45,000 for 2018, Never going to happen.

It's all fecking pipe dreams from the idiots at The FA, Spain will win the bid easy.

Mr Blatter would you like to watch the World Cup on a gloriously sunny june day in Madrid or a grey piss miserable day in Leeds?

This is a fecking stitch up! It has Dave Richards and his cronies at the FA all over it. Len, you talk shit as usual. If anyone thinks that that pile of blue tin is even close to Bramall Lane as a modern venue, they should be asking David Blunkett to be their guide person.

Not sure but I believe Fifa like these big open spaces where they can put on loads of entertainment and all that rubbish - preferably near to the ground.

Even I feel for McCabe on this one but one thing he can't do is create green spaces in city centres. I would imagine though that revenge from FA, as mentioned above by someone else, is pretty high in reasons why this has happened.

Haha, can you picture the bid now.

"Errr yes Mr. Blatter, we have Home Park as a venue."

We might as well send Coco the fucking clown in with a testicle hanging out of his shorts.

I was hopeful but now i don't give a shit, this just shows how much of a joke they are picking that place over BDTBL.

Just caught the last 10 mins of the tv stream with Mawhinney - is it just me or does he come across as a smug arrogant pillock. he appeared to be talking down to the questioners who dared ask why certain grounds eg; Newcastle and Sunderland had been chosen.
If he is representative of how the bid is put to FIFA the England has about as much chance of getting the WC as the pigs do of winning the champions league this year.

Both Leeds and Sheffield will be/are nailed on venues.

OK, say Sheffield is a final venue city. How are the Pigs going to finance any expansion?

Strafford selling his body on Leppings Lane.

Plenty to go round.

(:hello: visitors from Porktalk by the way)

I think this is a major scoop for the pigs and a PR disaster for us.

I said previously that I didn't think we'd fill a 44k stadium anyway, it also seems pointless for just 2- 4 games But....

It would have been prestige for the club and would further have enhanced our standing as the bigger club with the better ground in Sheffield.

So where does it leave us? Well I think we'll still go ahead and develop anyway...

I think the England Bid team will expect us to do that anyway as back up...

I'd love to see the transparent selection process and see why on earth we got gazumped by the pigs. Surely its not all about Hillsborough Park.

It begs the question, what has the Sty got that we haven't!

Sad day.

How can it be a failure of SUFC? Have you seen the Sty recently? It's a rusting sh!t-hole. The only thing it has over the Lane is it's slightly bigger but overall the Lane is far superior.

The decision is a joke. That's not SUFC's fault. But the odds are England won't stage the World Cup anyway so the Pigs will just get further into debt trying to get the Sty up to standard.

I saw it coming but it's still an absolute disgrace. Just glad i'm over here on the Isle of Man and it won't be my money going towards polishing that giant turd.

no way england will get the world cup anyway. jack warner will see to that, if the bid team don't do themselves in first (i.e. dave richards flouncing off the board without telling anyone leading to accusations the premier league don;t support the bid; embarassing the delegates by giving their wives conspicuously expensive presents; generally being perceived as arrogant after pissing off germany in proposing a bid last time it was due to be europe's turn etc etc).

OK, say Sheffield is a final venue city. How are the Pigs going to finance any expansion?

How much easier do you think it is if you've got the potential selling point of hosting games for the biggest event in the world?
It ain't rocket science.
Not necessarily easy but definitely easier.
Similarly when you're shoving your prospectus around investors - it's a handy selling point.

Strange thing is that there are several options based on potential new stadia!
Don't we have enough decent grounds already without having to include "virtual" venues?

"Similarly when you're shoving your prospectus around investors - it's a handy selling point."

Strange that this coincides with an announcement about investment into Pigs FC - probably another virtual scenario!
