New poster here, so apologies if this has been asked before.
I'm sat in front of the Pete McKee Lane Legends picture and started to wonder, if he produced another painting of 4 Blades Legends based on players that have played for us this century, who would he include?
My initial thoughts were Billy and Chris Basham as obvious candidates, but then I struggled for another two. Perhaps Chris Morgan ?
Also, if Pete McKee were to paint his picture for the first time would he pick the same 4?

If we finish in the top six, this team will have achieved as much as any other Blades team since 1925 so I’d say you could have any other two from the players who have played regularly over the last two seasons.

Hodgkinson, Coldwell, Shaw.G, Richardson, Shaw.J, Summers, Allchurch, Hodgson, Pace, Russell, Simpson.

Apologies for not being of this century, but these guys are true legends of the club - doubtless other old farts will have more suggestions...
Grew up watching that team, happy memorie.

(With apologies for the pedantry) We finished 5th in 1962. I would have no problem saying that 5th this year would be the greater achievement, in the light of the financial muscle of the clubs who would be below us.

I would add to your list Hawksworth and Ringstead, they were formidable wingers.

Correct he is, but the picture of the Lane Legends is a classic and I'm happy to have a copy in the house.

My grandad was Cec, but i don't no too much about his time playing as he passed away too early unfortunately, dad doesn't say much about him, apperanlty the club didn't treat him fairly after he stopped, anyone have any info about him, would love to hear stories about him, thanks

My husband loved your grandad he took him under his wing when my husband was a young player, which ever manager he played under he would only listen to Cec and would go and ask his opinion he's always said that the statue in the car park of Derek Dooley should have been your grandad Cec a man who played over 400 games captained a promotion side coached the first and twice managed them not only a football man but truly a lovely man

Ahh! I get it now! 🙂

And for the benefit of Cec's grandson...
Cec was Mr Reliable, a solid dependable defender, hard as nails and no one messed with him.
One club man, great servant who fulfilled many roles at sufc.
I do believe he was harshly treated by the club leading to his departure.

Thought Pete Mckee was a pig fan , as this is the op`s first post be careful where this will go , or may be i am wrong ?
He is, but in fairness to him he often produces artworks on both sides. I have a signed one hanging up in my living room.

Edit to add the pic. Forgive the colour of the wall...it's a rented flat and I'm hoping to change it soon!

It was either Martin Peters or Ian Porterfield who sort of "pushed" him out of the backroom staff.

Brealey was so keen on making Porterfield become our boss so he offered him a 10 year contract and must have agreed to his demands such as "bringing in his own backroom staff"
Yes Like all managers but they couldn't hold a candle to Cec when my husband first joined the club they had Cec Alan Hodgekinson and Harry Latham all on the staff he has always said that every new signing should be made to read all about the history of the club

For anyone interested, he’s got a new online exhibition at eightnewpaintings.com.

Love Pete McKee, despite pigginess. I have the Six Weeks Holiday, 2p Bus Ride, Waiting for Woodward, the Sheffield FC one and the Periodic Table all up my staircase, including the Lane Legends at work and his annual calendar (still stuck on March 2020) in my other office. Much of what he depicts resonates with my childhood in Gleadless Valley. The female hand on the 2p Bus Fare could be my mum (with me on the 20 bus from Hemsworth, me and my dad outside the John Street Entrance waiting for my footballing hero and me and my ginger cat Tom on the six weeks holiday image.

For the 'legends' I'd say Baxter (either), Sammon, Hammond and Flynn R

pommpey

Snap pommpey Vic. Heard him on Talksport the other Sunday and, though he’s a Piggie, he came across as a genuine bloke and top Sheff’lder. I love his work too which helps. His chip shop bird in his current exhibition had me howling, I tweeted him such and he responded really positively.

Proudly have a McKee original on my stairs and his portrait of Billy after promotion at Northampton in the summerhouse. A top bloke as well as a top artist

For your benefit George Coldwell-My last memory of your Grand dad, Ces, was of him leading the team off the pitch to receive The Central League Trophy, after beating Stoke City (2-0) in the last match of the season, about 4,000 attended. The Central League was essentially the reserves and Ces had just lost his first team place and was captain of the reserves. Had we lost Stoke would have taken the title. The smile on his face said everything and showed the pride of a true Blade who served us proud and faithfully.

Billy Sharp
Brian Deane
Paddy Kenny (probably not now due to circumstances around his exit but based on performance)
Chris Basham
Jags?

We've had a lot of cult players though
Basham is also a cult player I'd say
Chief
Porter
Doyle
Monty
