Lafferty on standby for Northern Ireland

If it is true about the state of the pitch,I wouldn't be surprised if Dufy missed out ( for O'Shea ? ) as we will need him fully fit against Millwall. Also don't forget Long might be playing so Wright in the back 3 and JOC at wing back might gives us enough protection

Why might Long be playing? Someone on here asked what people would do IF Long was playing but it was a hypothetical question. There's been no suggestion that Moore won't be playing, added to the fact that he trained yesterday.

Oh god. That's just the kind of disastrous event we don't need.

My preferences on replacements would be:

1. JOC to left wingback, Wright into the middle of the defence.
2. Formation change with JOC left-back.
3. Freeman switches to left-wingback, Bash to right-wingback, Wright into the middle
4. Literally anything else.
5. Done at left-wingback.

Option 1 - which right sided defender do you play on the left of the 3 then?

Option 2 - why change a formation for one player?

Option 3 - Why move a right wing back who has scored 9 goals away from right wing back?

Option 4 - Anything is better than Options 1 to 3

Option 5 - Doesn't disrupt formation, doesn't disrupt any other player, Done has filled in there already this season.

Done is worse than shit at wing back so that's a no no.

Either give Hussey a run or shuffle JOC across and bring Jake Wright back in. JOC has all the athleticism and technical ability to play wing back.

I'd be tempted to go

---------------Moore

----EEL-----Wright--Basham
Freeman---------------------------JOC
-----------Coutts-----Fleck
------------------O'Shea
-----------Sharp-------Hanson

Based on the awful pitch, having plenty of physical presence would stand us in good stead.

Lafferty called up, gets injured on international duty
Done LB on that potato field at Oldham - drop 3pts
Next 8 games getting cut wide open down the left

1. Probably Basham, as he seems the most agile. When JOC couldn't get in the team for a bit isn't that what we did?

2. Because it is preferable to playing the touted replacement in that position, and is a formation we have played recently (and I wouldn't want us to switch the formation ideally)

3. Because it is preferable to playing the touted replacement in that position.

4. The only thing less preferable to Done at left-wingback is Done at left-back.

5. The only time Done "filled in there" and didn't make us defensively unsound was against Northampton when their furthest player forward was at the edge of their own penalty area.

I believe the last two games Done started at LWB we lost 4-1 at Walsall and drew 2-2 at home to Gillingham, but I could be wrong.

Changing to 4 at the back isn't ideal but we've done it on regular occasions during games this season, including Saturday when it changed the game in our favour. It's not a bad thing that we've got various options to resort to. I'm sure Wilder will be bold in his decision making as ever if it looks like it isn't working early doors.

cheery sole aren't you !??!
as others have said in the Lafferty thread , i would put JOC at LWB and bring Wirght back in
JOC has done some excellent runs done the left recently (and through the middle!) and would do a grand job there IMHO
, also he is a big unit at LWB as this game could be messy due to the pitch 'quality'

He was injured about half way through the 2nd half on Saturday. Hopefully he will be OK

I'd say it was unfair to write Hussey off when he didn't play many games, but since he's failed to get near the side since then I'm inclined to agree.

Done in defence scares me a little but I'd prefer it to changing the formation. I still think we have more than enough to see this game out so no excuses if we don't.

I don't get it, Northern Ireland...LB problems...I thought Lafferty was 'crap' and we shouldn't have offered him a contract!?!?!?

Surely we look to minimise the changes to compensate for Laffertys absence. Leave the formation well alone and bring O'Shea in as LWB.

I have to admit, I was always a bit unsure on Lafferty. Got to admit in these last 10 games has looked an important player for us. Now I am guttered he isn't playing on Saturday.

I would've changed the system anyway because....

I want Wright in (alongside EEL and JO'C).

I want Basham in midfield.

I want Lavery and Hanson both to start.

Not a bad game to lose Lafferty for IMO. But it remains to be seen whether Wilder's selection will reflect that. It will be if Done plays LWB... although I do think this is one game where we'd be more likely to get away with him playing there.

You want to go 4-3-3?
Whats your lineup?

Feel it's the best way to get the most suitable personnel for this game into the team. Would've been the same if Lafferty was available. Could also be our best option to go direct. Don't think Oldham offer much out wide either, in fact I think they might have been playing 4-3-3 themselves. Would've said Duffy or O'Shea in a 4-4-2 diamond or maybe Lafferty (but now O'Connell) LWB in 3-5-2 but really think we should get Lavery up there with Hanson, and obviously Sharp.

But isn't that 'someone', big mates with Tufty? He's always going on about 'Tufty will do this...' so presumably he will have a word in CW's ear. After all we can't be having any runarounds in the team.

On the other hand it would give him a chance to post about CW 'giving in to the hoofers' leaving only him, King Canute-like, against the tide...
He cannot be his mate or he would know that CW has improved every club he's been at and he got found out on that one.

Not sure who you're referring to boo, but the important thing is to look at our league position, think about Wilder's good decisions versus his poor ones, and then consider what problems we have. The answer is few, relatively speaking. I think that the fact we've been in this division for so long has caused a type of institutionalisation amongst some Blades, all very understandable to my mind, but the page has turned, we now have a top class manager (that's a considered statement by the way), and we now have players that rise above the mediocrity we've become accustomed to. Some people are unforgiving.

I thought Lafferty was just on standby? Have they had injuries or something?

Some people are unforgiving.

I might understand why some people hang on to being unforgiving, but unless it's extremely personal or has affected my life in a deeply personal manner, I'd prefer to let go. That's not the same as forgetting, but otherwise it can tear you apart, and I see no point in allowing that to happen. Look to the present and future, that's the only thing we can do - the future's bright, the future's red and white! UTMB
