Lafferty on standby for Northern Ireland

Done gives away countless fouls when he tries to defend, in a 3ab formation Hussey is would be better, he can cross the ball and his defensive ability whilst not great is better than dones
Why are people all of a sudden backing Hussey for a starting role?

He's not made a squad for dont know how long, was awful when he actually played, we've heard nothing about him, but all of a sudden people would play him ahead of Done who has already filled in for Lafferty, in this system, and will work tirelessly for the team.

Didn't someone on here say they'd spoke to Hussey recently (or know someone who had) and he said he'd been injured all season.

Looks like another LWB appearance for Matty Done Saturday, Lafferty been put into the Northern Ireland squad....

Oh god. That's just the kind of disastrous event we don't need.

My preferences on replacements would be:

1. JOC to left wingback, Wright into the middle of the defence.
2. Formation change with JOC left-back.
3. Freeman switches to left-wingback, Bash to right-wingback, Wright into the middle
4. Literally anything else.
5. Done at left-wingback.

However if JOC does move to LWB, then that means Mr. "never lost on my watch" Wright can come back into the defence.

I'd be equally happy for Done or Hussey to fill in. How different to last season is this? Decent cover in pretty much all positions, hallefuckinluyah!

Whatever any of us think of Done, if he plays give the fella our support, seems childish to be overly critical even before he's stepped onto the pitch.

Could understand it if he were on the opposing team, but he's a Blade (at least for now) so give the guy the support any of us would hope for.

Fixed that for you.

Done works his socks off and runs round like a mad man for 90 minutes. I know he takes some stick, and to be fair If your playing week in and week out up top like he was, and don't score, it's not a surprise. However, you can't criticise his heart and work ethic. I'd take him over Hussey as the blokes had zero involvement since the first few games, that speaks volumes.

The only thing about Hussey is that he can hit across and we now have Hanson upfront since he last played. I am not advocating him playing but if Saturday turns into a dead ball game, we might be best to keep this in mind.

If he does play I know someone on here who will not give him support because he does not trust in the Manager if he plays Matt Done.

<< Although O’Neill omitted him from the squad which hosts Lars Lagerbäck’s side on March 26, the 47-year-old explained: “We watched Daniel a couple of weeks ago against Bolton. He’s very much in the equation, but we left him on standby. “For players at that level of football, they have to miss their club games, so I don’t want to bring them for the sake of bringing them along. If they come, I want them to have a real opportunity to push to start.” >>

What happened to this load of bollocks from O'Neill then? I feel a bit let-down having praised him for his sensible, considerate approach.
No defenders have dropped out injured and Lafferty isn't going to be "pushing for a start" ahead of the original squad members.
What's changed!? Maybe Oldham and Fleetwood have had a word?

Northern Ireland Defenders:- Aaron Hughes (Hearts), Gareth McAuley (West Brom), Jonny Evans (West Brom), Chris Brunt (West Brom), Craig Cathcart (Watford), Conor McLaughlin (Fleetwood Town), Lee Hodson (Rangers), Ryan McLaughlin (Oldham Athletic), Tom Flanagan (Burton Albion), Daniel Lafferty (Sheffield Utd)

Another option would be freeman at left wing back and Bash on the right ? ( did he not play there under clough )

JW slots it a CB

But isn't that 'someone', big mates with Tufty? He's always going on about 'Tufty will do this...' so presumably he will have a word in CW's ear. After all we can't be having any runarounds in the team.

On the other hand it would give him a chance to post about CW 'giving in to the hoofers' leaving only him, King Canute-like, against the tide...

I can see the thinking of JOC to LWB and Wright to come into the centre for Lafferty.

That pitch + Done at LB, no thanks.

I feel for Hussey, absolute non starter, and as a result overlooked in January for loan opportunity.

There was also an unfortunate moment for him in a recent Wilder interview where he was asked about Brayford and said with a laugh something along the lines of "last July I was telling you Brayford and Hussey were going to be our full-backs – just shows what can happen". Hussey will be another out the door this summer.

Not sure who you're referring to boo, but the important thing is to look at our league position, think about Wilder's good decisions versus his poor ones, and then consider what problems we have. The answer is few, relatively speaking. I think that the fact we've been in this division for so long has caused a type of institutionalisation amongst some Blades, all very understandable to my mind, but the page has turned, we now have a top class manager (that's a considered statement by the way), and we now have players that rise above the mediocrity we've become accustomed to. Done gives away countless fouls when he tries to defend

He somehow managed to hack someone down in our own box for a penalty last season when he was playing up front rather than in defence.

The added chaos of adding Done to the defence could be somewhat counteracted by bringing Wright's organisational skills back in on Saturday. My concern is that if he comes in that'll be the only change...

Hussey in for me, no need to mess around with the system and Done is no good at wing back.

Done runs around like a madman, creates openings but dosen't score....

a bit like Hanson then.

As much as I do like Done, I have misgivings about him playing wing back. The other alternative I suppose is for Lafferty to tell Ireland to bog off.

I don't think that was the first penalty he'd given away either, you'd think having played at LB for the start of his career he'd have learnt how to tackle properly

If it is true about the state of the pitch,I wouldn't be surprised if Dufy missed out ( for O'Shea ? ) as we will need him fully fit against Millwall. Also don't forget Long might be playing so Wright in the back 3 and JOC at wing back might gives us enough protection
