Exactly this.

Tufty's First Ride was built on the back of youngish players who had been discarded from top 6 academies who had had to prove themselves in the lower leagues but obviously had a taster of a PL setup and wanted to prove people wrong (Lundstram, JOC, Norwood, Stevens). Throw some excellent old-pros who had never quite had the opportunity to shine (Basham, Sharp, McGoldrick). Genius squad building.

We never went down the failed/ageing/washed up PL star who wants one last pay day as that was against everything we had built from a culture perspective.

This fascination with former players/ex-lovers is getting embarrassing now. It won't end well.
One of Englands most successful players, played at the top level, two major international finals, every top level domestic trophy as well as Champions league winner, leader and a ready made captain. We’ve not had a player close to this. He’s also still one of the fastest players in Europe and still a hell of a defender being able to play a number of positions as well.

There are certain players you want in the club.

Not to mention he has a winning mentality

Until he hasn't...

Once he rocks up to Shirecliffe compares our setup and coaching to that at his last two clubs, sees what the Championship is really like in terms of physicality - then decides it's not quite for him and spends 60% of the season injured...

Not sure that’s what he’d do. He visits the club on regular occasions, is close to a number of the current set up as well as ex players.

He’ll be under no illusion on the club or the league and I’m sure it would be a well thought out decision on all sides

FFS, looking back wards again.

From his comment I interpret his view of this club to be backwards. By his own assessment at his age and earnings he’s too good for us at the moment. When no one wants him cause he’s lost he speed, fitness etc then he’ll come for a cushy ride.

Feck off, not the attitude we need. We want young hungry players with years of improving not declining ahead. Yags proved that.
Yep, it’s a nice bladey blade idea, but the reality is that whilst he’s still (just about) got options at the very top, he won’t entertain the thought of coming back, and only when he’s no longer considered good enough at that level will he think about coming to us, at which point he won’t be anywhere near the player we’ve seen over the past 15 years.

It’s like saying I’m to good for you now, you won’t improve enough for me, so when I’m poor enough for you I’ll come.

AC Milan don’t want him, Citeh don’t want him…is it time?

Just saying…
If we'd gone up then perhaps. Not a chance he comes back whilst we're in the Championship. He'll go to Saudi or America most likely.

Would be some move if we could get him, but think it’s unlikely this season

There were some decent rumours when Pep froze him out at the back end of the 22/23 season, then he played all the last games and the champions league games, so got an extension...

Don't forget wilder paid Jags 45k a week, that was under the prince, so we are no strangers to paying decent money..nosworthy got 32k all them years back..

Walker has already made his money and if we pay him anywhere near 45-50k, he'll be out player...

Got to stop going backwards.
Washed up.
Would only be here for one last pay day.

Just wondering which of our current defenders, or any that we do bring in would oust him from whichever team he's at next season?
He's a top player that would be outstanding in the Champ next season.
If that's being a Bladey Blade not moving on, count me in.

It's irrelevant because there's no chance he's coming here, but are people really saying we shouldn't sign a current England international, who is comfortably better than anyone we have, simply because he's a former player and that it'd be "looking backwards"? Any Championship club would want Walker.

There would be Premier League clubs happy to sign him as well!

Exactly this. Seemingly, him having played for us is the only reason we shouldn’t sign him, according to some. If it was John Stones, we COULD sign him as that would be looking forwards and not backwards.

Yes. A blade. BUT the old adage, managers/players rarely work out second time around. Mouriniho/Ronaldo classic examples

absolutely and i dont think the money issue would be as much of a problem as a few on this thread are saying a 2 year contract 1 season in championship and his final season in the premier league for the blades i think this signing would appeal to our new american owners

It would also stamp their authority on what they intend to do going forward getting in a signing like that.

Our current Right backs are Seriki (lots of potential in my eyes) and... Jamie Shackleton.

Those that are saying it would be a backward step, I am not sure who you are suggesting we have that's better?

I also am not sure who else we would want to sign in RB. What other right backs could we sign that both give Seriki confirmation that he will get playing time (which I think he deserves of this season) whilst also raising the quality of the squad. It would be a sign of intent signing someone of that quality into the squad and with Seriki we wouldn't need him to play every game or all of the games.

Still don't think it would happen but if we signed him this summer, I don't think it would be just getting a player back for the Bladey Bladeness. give it another season or 2 and we are in retirement home territory.

Him/Seriki and Burrows pushing forward would also mean we wouldn't need to look for wingers which is something we don't seem to have on the books other than Brooks.

Hamer , Blaster and Ohare all tuck in more centrally, and have one holding DM. Its not quite going back to 5 at the back but not far off it.

I have no real knowledge around tactics and formations but It seems to build on certain parts of our game this season so feel free to shoot me down.

Could probably still do a job at a mid to lower PL team as well.

He might not have the pace anymore, but he's got tons of valuable experience that would be welcomed at a lot of clubs.

Easily the best/most successful player to come out of the city of Sheffield.

On last nights performance and he's not been doing great at AC, reading reports, we should forget resigning him just because he wants to come back, it's a no from me

Still too good for the Championship even though he's droppped in pace and form. Don't forget he was the world's best right back just a coulpe of years ago -age is bound to catch up with you. He would still be one of our top performers if we signed him this summmer.

I don't think a loan from City would work due to wages. He would have to be a free transfer and then we pay him at the top of our wage structure.

Walker/Seriki at right back would have that position nailed.

If we paid him 50k a week on a 2 year deal that costs £5.2m in wages. Which other centre back with his experience do we sign for a total of £5.2m including wages?
