Yet, Walker was more set on leaving than Naughton. He'll come back on loan if it's a choice between sitting in the reserves or getting first team football. That means he can continue playing football at a decent level, whilst getting paid a lot more than he was with a chance of developing into a first team back at his club.
They were both happy to stay at the club, but happier to leave for bigger and better things when the option arose.
If they were paying him merely £5k a week, he would still be a blades player. He's on far more than that and an amount that we couldn't realistically pay.
I'm old enough to realise that the vast majority of the 'itk' stuff posted on forums is absolute bollocks but a lot of people were posting things about Walker not wanting to leave and fairly detailed breakdowns of the package he was getting from Spurs. With his dad being well known amongst SUFC fans you might expect there to be some reasonably accurate stuff coming out.
If he's silly money at Spurs then fair enough. Having said that, if Naysmith's on 16k as the rumours suggest then it just makes it stick in the throat all the more that we've had to let such a good prospect go because we can't afford to keep him.
Amazing how many of the bad things that have happened to United in recent months can be traced directly back to the decision to appoint Bryan Robson
