Kyle Naughton

Yet, Walker was more set on leaving than Naughton. He'll come back on loan if it's a choice between sitting in the reserves or getting first team football. That means he can continue playing football at a decent level, whilst getting paid a lot more than he was with a chance of developing into a first team back at his club.

They were both happy to stay at the club, but happier to leave for bigger and better things when the option arose.

If they were paying him merely £5k a week, he would still be a blades player. He's on far more than that and an amount that we couldn't realistically pay.

I'm old enough to realise that the vast majority of the 'itk' stuff posted on forums is absolute bollocks but a lot of people were posting things about Walker not wanting to leave and fairly detailed breakdowns of the package he was getting from Spurs. With his dad being well known amongst SUFC fans you might expect there to be some reasonably accurate stuff coming out.

If he's silly money at Spurs then fair enough. Having said that, if Naysmith's on 16k as the rumours suggest then it just makes it stick in the throat all the more that we've had to let such a good prospect go because we can't afford to keep him.

Amazing how many of the bad things that have happened to United in recent months can be traced directly back to the decision to appoint Bryan Robson

Like I said, neither of them actively wanted to leave, but the deals on the table for them and the opportunity was far too good for them to turn down. Being family or the player themselves, are you likely to say to the adoring public "Yeah, my agent and me think its a cracking deal so I'm off" or are they more likely to take the easy option and trot out the old "yeah, the club want to get rid of me"?

If they didn't want to go, they wouldn't have instructed their agents to talk to the clubs and they certainly wouldn't have signed the contracts.

It is a fact that agents approach other clubs unilaterally.

and they certainly wouldn't have signed the contracts.

tell that to Alan Kelly or Carl Tiler.

Very true - it will haunt us for years

They also act on players requests. Such as visiting Everton to talk to them on Kyles behalf whilst he was in Malta.

tell that to Alan Kelly or Carl Tiler.

Did these two sign contracts somewhere they didn't want to go under duress?

It's funny, because I heard the exact opposite.

Walker was the one who wanted to leave and Naughton wasn't sure. Spurs wouldn't consider taking on Walker without Naughton.

Like you said, can't say whether it was crap or not... :)

No, of course not, but their displeasure at being sold is well documented, pay rise or not. Tiler's father wrote to the Green 'Un to refute United's claims about Tiler's attitude to the deal. United never contradicted that account.

Kelly didn't want to leave us as he liked the area but was told that we'd decided to keep Tracey and sell him, as we'd get more for him.

The David Holdsworth deal was similar.
