Kop Stand Improvements

There is no point at all fiddling about with extra seats on the Kop, or other piecemeal so called improvements, just to make it a slightly better 20th
century stand. It needs to be knocked down and a fresh start made. We are now in the 21st century ; people are growing taller and wider with each generation : people want concourses where they can eat and drink : and the last thing they want to have to do is get soaked in the rain whilst going for a piss.

Agree it’s a conundrum, if you do something then may as well do it properly and future proof it

but when the return on investment will be minimal I can’t imagine any owner would out of the kindness of their heart treat us like a charity spending such a large amount on a stand that it might take I guess 100 years to get their money back. If he did it cheap then at least it might take I’m guessing more like 20 years. Also a total rebuild of the Kop would piss off fans for 2 or 3 years when we’ve lost 11,000 seats, they may never return and/ or might not pay the increased prices.

Also the Kop is traditionally the cheapest area of the ground and I think it should remain the the budget area built on a budget.
If people want more luxury then they have the option of the South stand....think it’s fair to cater for all fans...offering a choice.

The ground's going to look pretty archaic compared to just about every other ground in the Prem.
No problem with that per se as all those bowls built 10 or 20 years ago are horrendous but the kop does need rebuilding. Can't see how it would take 2 or 3 years as I think someone suggested as it would probably only take about 2 or 3 weeks to knock it down as there's nowt to it in terms of structure.

We're going to sell out every single game this season. We really ought to crack on as soon as possible with an expansion whether it's the kop or the south stand

No we shouldn't.

We should only even start to consider increasing the capacity if we've been in the Premier League for three or four seasons.

Don't think it will.

We've looked after it well, from the inside looking from the Kop, it looks as modern as an old ground can I think. No worse than a Selhurst Park or a Vicarage Road. Could do a bit from the outside with the South and Kop, and the pillars on the Kop obviously but I still wouldn't say those areas look archaic.

I can remember when John st was built, me n my mate snuck in for a look and the first words out of my mouth were its too small, they should have done it 2 tier like the dingles main stand with corp boxes in the middle
They would never have got planning permission to do that back in the day.

The planning rules were a lot tighter and there's houses on the other side of the street that would have been for ever in it's shadow.

It's been said many times before. A new kop with increased rake and more leg room would be marvellous but will have reduced capacity compared to now unless the structure goes higher and further back. Increasing the capacity as well means it will have to be higher and further back still. I can only see the new bolt on at the back being viable I'm afraid, which is a shame.

We are not. Still around 2,500 tickets left fir Sunday and that is our home opener back in the Prem. It might not have been helped by a convulated way of selling them but still this notion that we could sell 35-40,000 tickets is a myth. The stadium size is fine....as our crowds over history proves. Maybe we can attract new fans..and grow it slightly but not sure either sheff club can regularly get 35,000 + week in, week out.

They need to redo/rebuild the Kop and corner. Give it a steep rake and proper concourse at the back/within it. If you make it steeper it may have to go higher and back further but plenty of land behind it.

Tart up the South Stand (inside and the way it appears from the car park).

As I've said before worst cases scenario is we play at Oakwell or gulp...Elland Rd for 2 or 3ames just to allow it to get done...Surely May to Oct (6 months would be enough time to get it done)

Not sure the money spent on adding an extra tier to the South Stand would be worth it.

I don’t think it is a myth that we’d sell 35k to 40k deadbat, we’d be able to give the away fans more tickets for a start and as you’ve quite rightly pointed out, the only reason we’ve 2k tickets left to date is because of how we sell the tickets. I know quite a few fans who won’t be going on Sunday due to the membership scheme, they refuse to pay for what is in effect standing in a queue.

40K plus will be achieved if the club show some ambition and we can stay in the prem this season. These guys who hark on about not getting these crowds probably don't realise this is a whole new ballgame. We now have a Prem + ground, ambitious owners ( hopefully ) and fantastic potential backing by the fans. Was told we would have easily sold the ground out with S/T's if it wasn't for an F/L ruling, and as for the Palace game it's a week away and by the end of this week will have sold out.

Also noticed there were a lot of tickets left.
I've got a season ticket so it doesn't matter to me but the convoluted schedule of points, the idea of having to buy a membership card to maybe get a ticket and most of all stupid ticket prices may well put other people off.
When you're getting well over £100m just for being in the Prem there was no need to increase prices at all and potentially they could have decreased them to say a big thank you to all those fans who stuck at it through the hard times.

Plus on Sky which will detract a few from going or pub with mates and orfamily responsibilities.

Neither Sheffield club has averaged over 35,000 since the mid 60s I believe. Since 1970 only United have avgd over 30,000 just twice and only once in the last 30 years.

The Prem League is bigger now then ever before but still not sure where 12k a week extra fans come from? I'd love it to happen but as I said on the ticket post we are still nearly 3k short of selling out opening day...our 1st game at this level for 12 years.

I'd very surprised if fans who have barely gone in last 12 years (basically 500 pts is like 5-10 games over this period) suddenly decide a few days before Sunday to pay £35-£40 to sit in the pukka pie corner or kop wings. Maybe tne way the club has sold tickeys and/,or prices dont help but id be stunned if we shif those 2500-3000 in the next 4 days.

As I say love us to average 35 to 40k but we can't sell the ground out in its current capacity. If we do that week in, week out then ground extension can be considered.

FFS you just don't get it. This is totally different from the last couple of times we've been in the Prem. It is now a major happening and historical facts go out of the window. The 500 points start selling Wednesday ,then the remainder of the tickets will go. The last time Sheffield averaged 35000 + was 1954. I bet your miserable counterpart in Brighton a few years ago was saying, " what's the point of a new 30000+ ground when we only regularly get 6/7000 crowds" . Funny how they found another 12000 fans.

Why?

Our capacity has been proven to be too small for us with even the tiniest inkling of a bit of success.

We shouldn’t be looking at what our averages are during our years of under achieving, but what we can potentially achieve.

We’ve shown the demand is there when doing well, we need a stadium that can accommodate that so we can grow the fanbase.

If done sensibly, in stages, we could grow our hardcore support by a significant amount.

Some good points deadbeat but I think you’re underestimating our fan base.

As someone has pointed out, we would’ve sold the ground out with season tickets if we were allowed so I think it’s plausible to think with an extra couple of thousand away fans in the ground we could comfortably get 35k and will get 40k for the big games, I do agree that we need to be in the Prem a couple of seasons though before we start to think about it.

Fair points DB, but for me, the question is how many COULD we sell in a perfect world, with no restrictions. I'm of the opinion that there is a large latent support made up of people who 'used to go', casual fans, and also a massive student and business population who could be interested in watching Premier league football if it was easy to actually get a ticket. We could also sell a few thousand more in the away end in this league, if more seats were available. The current points regime is geared up to dealing with bygone days with middling crowds, the odd big game, and of course away games, with the current capacity of around 32,000.
It needs a review in my opinion. I'm not saying I know the answer, but I'm fairly sure we could achieve significantly higher crowds if the product is right, and if it was just a matter of buying tickets on line.

Don’t need any more supporters, I’ll never get a bloody away ticket 🙈

The ground needs modernising in certain parts rather than being made much bigger.

We could probably do with an extra 5000 seats that’s it.
Clean the kop up and take the poles out.
Sort out the stupid pukka pie corner or whatever it’s called.
Maybe build a corner stand between the kop and south if possible or extend the south slightly

When?

Selling out against Man Utd or Liverpool once every ten years isn't evidence of anything.

It's easy to fill the stadium for a last match of the season as champions against Chesterfield or for a cup semi final against Tottenham but we've never shown we can do it over a sustained period of time.

If anybody seriously thinks we'd be selling 35,000+ tickets every week for matches against the lower half of the Premier League then they're mad.

That’s because we haven’t had success for a sustained period of time, it makes all the difference.

I agree, which makes this thread redundant.

Let's discuss expanding the stadium if we ever get to a point where we need to.

We'd need half a dozen seasons in the Premier League and to be challenging for the Europa League places for it to ever happen in my opinion.

Where we differ here is I think we could get 35k now and if we had a couple of seasons in the Prem, not needing to challenge for europe, then we would need an extension at this point.

We don’t need to be hasty with it but we do need to prepare for what I think is very realistic in a couple of seasons time. I’m not mad by the way, I just differ from your view on it nuddy. 😁

How about the last time we were in the Premier 12 seasons ago, a relegation season?

We averaged over 30,000 and could have averaged probably approaching 35,000 given larger home and away capacity.

It nonsense to suggest our current capacity is big enough for us in the Prem.

As it stands at the moment we need a stadium big enough to accommodate potential fans of the future. 37,000 would do to start with.
