Also, spunking all your wages up the wall for a bloke with dodgy hamstrings. You may want to be careful what you wish for.

Our luck is he signs for another year and we are all delighted.

Opening day of the season his hamstring goes and he is out for most of the season.

Its the blades way! lol

i'd rather keep lowton and macguire than resign macdonald

K mac will re sign if utd stop messing him about. Millwall offered money in jan and utd turned it down. That was a good move and showed some bottle and commitment The lad is on buttons compared to some of our so called better players and it's about time utd came clean. His new contract was less than last year! Off load Quinn and give k mac 50 per cent of what he was on and a deal will be done. Not wilsons fault just a board full of people with no ability to actually work out how to solve the problem. We are paying poor players good money. Re invest in some young quality and we might actually be surprised what we might do. Fleck will sign also if we can make it right.

well apologies to KMac in that case.. i'd love him to resign.. he is my favourite player by a mile.. i can seriously believe this scenario.. i know for a fact that Kyle Walker was on academy wages when he signed for Spurs.. incredible huh?? KMac should be the highest earner at the club and i'm gobsmacked he isn't already
that being said, my comment about lowton and harry still apply.. but i'd rather keep KMac than Quinn, Monty and Williamson.. ie the lot of them

Are you really gobsmacked that McDonald isn't the highest earner? We've got Quinn, Montgomery and Cresswell still pulling in Premier League\top of the Championship level wages while we're in the third tier. I agree that we should be making him an improved offer but unfortunately our hands are tied.

If Millwall stopped eyeing up Monty from the bar and asked him to dance then that would really, really help.

heh.. quality :D
just a theoretical question then?? how do you see Monty fitting into the current Spain setup??

not on about the trophies, you are missing the point.. we get 20000 attendances which is way above anyone else.. as such our revenue and expenditure should be at the equivalent level

We GOT 20,000 attendances more like. Can't see us getting any this upcoming season.

Didn't no one think about adding relegation clauses in their contract to reduce their wage by x amount if relegated? If they had, they would be on a fraction to what they are on now. I still maintain KM would never run his own business like he does at united. It baffles me why he lets this happen. Frustrating times for fans as little can be done by them. The only people who lose out in the end, as proven by Rangers, are the fans. Players will get to sign for another team, DW will manage another team in league 1 / 2, KM will continue to make his millions from his business yet the fans will lose their club.

I think he would do a great job running onto the pitch with a wet sponge.......

...then again ;)

Only time will tell. There's been a huge oversight in the English to Spanish translation dictionary in that no-one has yet put the phrase "Every team needs a Monty" in there.
Once this error has been corrected . . . . . . . .

You're wrong. That's how Iniesta continues to have a career.

It's not quite so simple though. What if the players have offers from clubs who do not insist on these clauses, and we can't sign anyone as a result. Do we still insist on inserting clauses? The boot is, unfortunately, on the players foot.

Whilst there's no doubt we've been far too generous with the contracts we've dished out, the answer is not as easy as to say "why didn't we just pay them all £1,000 per week", or such like.

Neither did Newcastle when they went down to the Championship. Maybe we thought theres no way we can go down so we dont need relegation clauses. OOPS

I keep reading again and again how crippling and expensive Cresswell's wages are, but then I remember that he was signed in January 2010 when United were already pleading poverty and in the midst of dismantling their entire defence, and I wonder how crippling these wages actually are.

Similarly, given that Quinn and Montgomery have renewed their contracts at least once since PL relegation - and I think twice with Monty, as someone was dumb enough to extend him when he was last out of contract - again I wonder if this is really PL/top of the Championship money.

The real fact of the matter here is this..... None of the players mentioned above have any real market value . Monty, Quinn in last year, Cresswell etc........ Kmac , Maguire, Lowton on the other hand are worth tying down on decent money and even if the worst comes to the worst and we have to sell we at least have an asset (I do accept in most business this is normally good but maybe not with our track record) Kmac had agreed a deal if we got promoted and united were happy. He has reduced what he wants by some considerable margin and he would still be nowhere near our top earner and still they won't do a deal....... I really hope if he goes the board will hang their head but I very much doubt it. The press say no contact......from utd that is correct.........for the record that's just my opinion!

I am surprised that no team in the Championship has snapped up Willo and KMac as I think they are good enough for the league above. Demands too high perhaps? Injury concerns so teams won't take a risk ?

Willo has an awful injury record and even at this level we've had to carefully manage his game time to keep him effective. KMac is good but of 30 games probably had 10 where he was brill, 10 average and 10 crap games where I've seen middling league one sides run straight thro our midfield (at home too) while he was clearly breathing out of his arse. He improved with game time but Brum made him look like what he was which is someone who can weight a pass like no-one we've seen for years but is still in the potential bracket.

I think they would both be better off playing at the top end of league one with us. If you're in the championship you need to know someone could offer 30+ games of high consistency and fitness. I'm not sure either can at this stage.

I'd love them both to sign for us.

I'd rather have McDonald and Williamson, two of the best midfielders in the division, for, say 30 games each, than replace them with somebody who might play 46 games but be a bit shit because it's all we can afford / attract.

Pay them what they want if we can, it's less of a risk than gambling on some nobody and expecting them to turn in the sort of performances we expect from these two.

Their injury record is a gamble for other clubs which is probably the only thing that is in our favour. They are high risk targets as both could easily get an injury that means they miss the season.

If Kmac doesn't sign, maybe it is time for a 'bring back Michael Tonge' rumour . He is out of contract and can play centre midfield....Brown is too old now isn't he ? :D

Williamson seems to be joining Barnsley, but I agree it's amazing if Championship clubs aren't queueing up to sign McDonald on a free. When fit and motivated like we managed to get him last season, he's Premiership class IMO.

The ultimate slap in the face for Blades fans the Dingles taking one of our best players how bad is that ?
(Barnsley FC perennial Championship struggler's and relegation battlers scraping though on gates below 12000)

Just a thought maybe McDonald isn't that good really and it is the dross around him that makes him look like a poor man's Messi

Nobody should be surprised to see a 30 year old choose a Championship club over a League One club. Rather than despairing over such matters we need to realise where we are on the football ladder. We are in a poor position to hold on to players that Championship and Premiership clubs want, and our crippling wage bill doesn't help.

Completely disagree. Choosing the Dingles over us because they are a division higher is still a backward step. We are a far bigger club - & the Dingles are one of the favourites for relegation next season. I can only assume they are offering a better deal - probably longer because I doubt they pay higher wages. Would be nice if Willo showed a bit of loyalty and committed himself to us and striving to make up for last season's disappointment.

Playing for Barnsley must be about as attractive as going down the pit
