Ah, and there's me thinking that you meant that Utd would be the most attractive proposition for any footballer that wants to play at this level. Sorry, I guess the words, "
we are the man utd of this level.. we should be able to attract any decent player available at this level." threw me off the scent.
If you are actually talking about spending power then I respectfully point out that it's you that has missed the point, SP. If we were all starting form a blank sheet and our ability to compete for players was based solely on financial clout then I might have some affinity with your point. If, however, you are saying that we get 20k crowds so we must have more to spend than enayone else - that's just not so. We are starting off with a wage bill far greater than our turnover. Even after we released players at the end of the season just finished our wage bill is higher than it needs to be to work within the FFP guidelines. Unless we offload more players and free up more budget we are actually in a less attractive place than others might be as we just cannot sign anyone.
The crux is that our expenditure is already too high before we even look at signing new players.
That's why DW will be forced to use the likes of Philliskirk, Tonne, Whitehouse etc this term
We might be linked with Fleck, Beavon, Schlupp, Wotherspoon, Kenneth, etc. but none of those will be coming in unless we shift anyone out (or those that have contract offers on the table decide to go elsewhere).
DW has stated that he is about 4-5 weeks behind after the PoF. That means about now he is beginning the process so it'll be at least a couple or three weeks before that situation clears.

Hey,
Foxy! - Any chance of reactivating the tumbleweed smiley for closed season antics?
