Completely disagree. Choosing the Dingles over us because they are a division higher is still a backward step. We are a far bigger club - & the Dingles are one of the favourites for relegation next season. I can only assume they are offering a better deal - probably longer because I doubt they pay higher wages. Would be nice if Willo showed a bit of loyalty and committed himself to us and striving to make up for last season's disappointment.

Completely disagree. Barnsley are a division higher. United might get in the same division in a years time, but the chances of that happening are looking more remote by the day. If i was the wrong side of thirty then i 'd be wanting to play at the highest level i could, for as long as i could. If he has a good year at barnsley, then a bigger and better club in the championship might take him on.

To put it another way, if you had the choice of signing for Wigan or Leeds, which one would you choose?

And in reference to the bit in your quote i've highlighted in bold, Barnsley do not have to conform to any sort of wage cap rule, so they can pay whatever they want.

It takes the piss when the dingles can cherry pick our better players.
Seriously if it was upto me id have bombed Willo out the moment he started to talk to other clubs.
I would be saying ok, you can talk to other clubs, but be aware we reserve the right to withdraw our offer & sign a replacement for you. Were would you be then?

Yeah, he'll be laughing on the other side of his face while we're scratting around trying to keep hold of players and he's earning plenty of money playing in the league above. That'd show him!

Im pretty sure Barnsley wont be able to offer a better wage than us. Even as skint as we are.

And whos to say that any club will actually take a punt on him?

Yeah but at least we'd have a replacement probably on lower wages and less prone to a lie down on the treatment table.

The Dingles may not have a wage cap but what they pay will be limited by their small crowds & income. He'd be better off staying with us - bigger club, bigger support, better facilities, more potential (ok - I know the last bit is a bit dodgy whilst McCabe is in charge). He could sign a 3 year deal with the Dingles & 2 years of that could end up being in League 1. And Barnsley is a sh!thole. If a top Championship side came in for him then fair enough. But the Dingles? Do me a favour.

Oh, and to answer your question I'd sign for Leeds and deliberately play shite.

Is it an English thing to be so obsessed with which club is bigger? Barnsley are in a higher divison than us, so they're better than us at the moment. Brighton are better than us. Peterborough are better than us. Millwall are better than us. Who the hell takes comfort in us being a massive club playing in the third division? It's nice to have big crowds, but it's no good having a big turnover if we continue to waste our money. We have to start getting our house in order and make good, long term decisions. Until then let's stop pretending we're a club that players should prefer to join (/stay at) rather than clubs in a higher division.

Agree, we're beginning to sound like The Massive!

So that then they are both gone?

Oh well room for Monty in the new non-existent midfield.

K mac will be at training tomorrow. Hopefully close to a new deal.. It appears utd have been a bit creative. Let's hope so but signs are good.

Looks like Willo was at training yesterday as well. Mentioned in the Star this morning. Says DW introduced Cofie to his new team mates including Lee Williamson.

That would be a chink of light if it happens. Still time to screw it up though

Its good news that they are both back in pre season training with us but how does that work with their contracts? Does it just start rolling month to month or are they not being paid at the min ?

No idea but if they wanted to go they wouldnt be in pre season training surely?

Not turned up apparently, DW "disappointed" as he expected him there.

Any idea what's gone wrong?

speculates was told he'd have to play with monty in midfield :D
we probably offered him a shit contract.. if anyone at the lane had any sense they'd have renewed it last year when things were looking good

Can see 2 scenarios either he's actively looking for another club or his agent has told him not to train until the deal is done. If he got a serious injury in training and was out for the year would we sign him ? I suppose it makes sense.

In either case a simple phone call to Wilson saying "I'm looking for another club" or "I'm not training until the deal is done" would have avoided any confusion. It sounds that Wilson's as much in the dark as the rest of us.

Not very professional behaviour from McDonald and even on a personal, human basis a courtesy call to Danny would have been in order.

With K Mac currently in a "bargaining position" with SUFC, I can see why he would be advised not to turn up to training, to force our hand. Then again he's losing fitness to any potential gaining club......

Ooooh the intruige o_O

Very unprofessional from both club and player what an absolute shambles.
