Is Hogan getting a game at Villa now?

Nope. Needs to move Abraham out of the side, which he isn't going to do any time soon, but they don't have any other back ups I don't think. Unless they can bring in another forward, I can't see us actually signing Hogan.

Edit: Especially now Dean Smith is there!

He’s let him go once.

Interesting that he said from his experience of being at the club that the owners will back the manager if he says he needs 'x' player.

Food for thought for many of us, and I include myself in that as one who often questions McCabe over the club's transfer policy, if such a thing exists?

In any case though it does feel like this league is rapidly pricing out any club who can not/will not subsidise 30-40k per week on a striker and therein lies our problem at the moment. The January window is even harder to work in than the summer one as well.

Is there any evidence of a special relationship between Smith and Hogan?

Interesting because he’s best mates with Simon McCabe, so maybe he is itk?

Personally, if I was Wilder I’d be looking st John Swift, only on the bench today.. but a class player who would fit seemlessly into the Duffy role and would provide adequate competition

I think if we get a creative Duffy type we're looking very good for Playoffs, if we can get a proven striker (even if he's 30+ or a loan) too then we've got all the tools for a proper push for autos I think if we keep our general performance levels up.

This season is a bit shit or bust for us, not in a monetary way, but you'd be wondering about the manager and a few of our squad attracting some attention, we need to push.

Hopefully the owners recognise that short term pain in the wallet region will soon give way to 100 million quids worth of pleasure.

But different backing the manager to sign someone for 500k than it is 5 million tho me thinks

Kitson's haircut is an abomination.

Didn’t recognise him at first. Has he lost a bit of timber since he played for us, too?

I was chuffed when we signed him, even though he was pretty much at the end. And I wish we’d had him for a few years when he was younger. Kitson and Doyle, in the 2005/6 season when Reading went up too, were probably as good and consistent a front two as there has been for a long time in this division.

That's very true. It was a fairly sweeping statement from him, which to be fair also didn't account for the fact that wages have shot up massively since he was kicking around.

This sounds contradictory.

I’ve no doubts that the owners will make a push in the January window but suspect many will be dissapointed because many
will want us to bring in better players not realising their cost and salaries.
In effect many will want us to play shit or bust in a monetary way.

Can't believe Hogan still gets brought up, if he was any good, he'd be banging them in for villa, instead of warming a seat in the stands!
We need better than that.
If we're serious about going for it, we should be looking for players good enough to do it in the prem, or there's just no point.
Hopefully Wilder gets backed, if not, forget it until the owners can sort their shit out and put the club first.

“Dean, do you know that playoffs thing we want to get into?”

“Yep”

“Well Sheff United, one of our rivals, want to borrow one of our strikers to consolidate their playoffs place”

“THA FUCKING WOT?!”

To put ourselves at risk financially we'd have to spend £20m or something, which only the most ardent anti-McCabeists would want.

I think we could get away with spending £4-6m on either position and pay for a loan for the other.

We'd be ok financially doing that you'd imagine, even if it doesn't work and we don't go up we will probably lose at least one of our prized assets in the summer and be back to black in the accounts.

Shane Long for me - pace, intelligence and fed up with bench warming.........should we have a collection?

Yeah but better than that is players like Abraham on 50 k a week , we simply can’t afford players like that , Hogan would be a quality signing he was a 12 million quid player 2 seasons ago same with McGoldrick Leicester bid nearly ten mill for him.
