Apart from that half volley at Port ValeHad the knack of scoring goals whatever the level, never really got a chance at the top level because scoring was all he did, outside of the penalty area he was a passenger.
Got kicked in the head by their centre back , but still a brave header that got us promoted. And he knocked himself out in collision with the post - a brave goal.
I had that shirt. Wore it most days on a fortnight holiday to Rhodes in 1985. Smelled absolutely rancid by day 7.
Oh yeh , that's right , I didn't have the best view , and memories fade - but that was an interesting day-out on the terracesGot kicked in the head by their centre back , but still a brave header that got us promoted.
Lively old day that at Burnden![]()
Met him at the Supporters do after promotion in 2017 - what a character !I have a bit of a reason for starting this post. Keith still works part time and I’m lucky enough to work along side him. For those who have known him over the years will probably agree he’s very forthright and full of self confidence. This was one of the reasons he was the footballer he was.
I don’t want to say too much but I think he has recently lost a bit of his spark and I think a bit of proper recognition would give him a lift.
He constantly states he hates football today but he could tell you about every goal he ever scored from the good old days and despite what division we were in or how many attended they were definitely the good old days.
Every time you mention this goal I feel obliged to say that Tony Pritchett called it a fluke. The goal against Bristol Rovers at The Lane in the 84 promotion season when he dummied the through ball , he went one way , the ball the other & the keeper left stranded & slotted it in from the angle of penalty area .
A near replica of the Brazil player in the 1970 WC but his went wide .
Still one of the best goals I’ve seen at The Lane in my time![]()
Sat on the John reading this - little bit constipated following a night on the Camparis and been shoots , your post righted all that - nearly shat my spleen outKeith Lemon would be an upgrade on what we have now!

I set that one up for you - enjoyDoesn't he mind?

Still remember that day like yesterday .Got kicked in the head by their centre back , but still a brave header that got us promoted.

I thought the highest scorer there was your Dad, the infamous 'he must have been some player'Possibly the highest goalscorer I saw at at our wedding reception, discounting myself![]()

I remember it thus.
A ball down the left wing at the Kop end. Edwards and a defender chasing it with the goalie also looking to come out to collect. All about equidistant from the ball.
Edwards gets there marginally first and dummies the ball. The ball goes left and Edwards goes right whilst the goalie and defender collide.
Edwards picks up the ball, jogs to the edge of the 6 yard box and taps it in with his arms in the air.
It was 14 April 1984. We were 3-0 up at the time, so that goalie just looked like icing on the cake. As it happened, given we were ultimately promoted by 1 goal, it was vital.
Poor Orville. Keith Harris’ death left him speechless. What about Keith Harris. We could have Orvil on the wing too!
Bristol Rovers were promotion rivals and I remember the game all being very boring and scrappy until Stancliffe in a goal half way through the second half (vague memory of a header from a corner the goalie should have saved).I can see it in my mind's eye.
Tony Pritchett described it as “his 39th goal of the season - and probably his easiest”.
Coming away from the game Revolution Sr and I remarked it was like the dummy Pele had done against Uruguay in 1970, when he shot wide having fooled the keeper.
Revolution Sr won the 5 pound Green Un star letter, saying Pritchett was wrong and Edwards had done what Pele couldn’t in 1970.
They never sent him the money and he had to go to the Star offices on York Street and demand it.
I remember being really shocked in 1985 when he had a couple of one on ones with 17 year old Tim Flowers of bottom placed Wolves and Flowers got the better of him. That simply didn’t happen. It turned out Flowers was quite good….If Edwards had a one - on - one with any goal keeper it was a goal , clinical is the word ,
In my top 3 all time blades along with Currie & Woodward.I have a bit of a reason for starting this post. Keith still works part time and I’m lucky enough to work along side him. Bill Punton should also have a statue. In my top 3 all time blades along with Currie & Woodward.
Lovely guy and very funny.
We as a club don’t do enough for our former players.
It does my head in that Woodward doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.
When fans start talking about erecting statues Woody should be at the front of the queue.
Tell Keith he was my absolute hero growing up ...I used to get up before school to do my paper round so I could afford to go to match ( parents always skint )I have a bit of a reason for starting this post.
