Just seen that he'll be released from Palace at the end of the month. He intends to retire at the end of the season, but wants to get some goals elsewhere before then.

He's now 40, but has never really relied on pace. He is however a proven goalscorer, is a real poacher and great in the air for someone of his size.

I'm wondering if its worth getting him onboard. I know he's another has been, but I see him as a Peschi type player.

Is it worth a crack? I would say yes... Thoughts?

It crossed my mind the other day but honestly I'm leaning towards no.

I would rather see Taylor and Miller get a few more games under their belts to develop and get some form back. Also we could do with an additional target man centre forward, which is more important for me.

Let's develop our own younger players and get them up to scratch for a promotion push next season.

I think compared to the likes of BT, King and Kitson, Kevin Phillips is not so much a player that you need 100% fit to see the best out of. He's a finisher and a poacher. A super sub. We've lacked a player like this for a few years. I suppose webber was a close as we got, but Peschisolido was the best.

I know we need a proper centre forward (which I reckon we'll get) and a few other tweaks need making. But the way that Clough has us playing is almost to win by narrow margins. Saturday sounds like we just needed that extra bit of quality or an extra threat. Phillips off the bench for the last twenty mins might be the difference between 0 and 1 pt, 1 and 3.

There is also the experience of Phillips. He's been around these divisions, he could teach a few of our younger players a few things.

On the other hand, I also think it's a gamble. He's 40 and not played as much this season. So we could end up with nothing from him.

Just a thought.

Phillips? Has been one of the better poacher types for many seasons. For what it's worth, someone similar (if they exist) to a Jason Roberts type to play alongside Miller. Shaun has it within him to be the perfect foil for a tough, no-nonsense C/F. I'm sure there are many more on here who know which players would fit that bill.
I can't see how Phillips would make a genuine contribution. Happy to be proved wrong, I'd just prefer to see a more forward thinking strategy than one loan after another. Wendy are sinking even though they keep loaning players, not a constructive approach in my view.

We have a good poacher at the club who just needs to get back to full match sharpness and rediscover his form.

I like this idea. Pay as you play with small retainer. Wouldn't do Miller any harm either to learn a bit from Phillips.

I reckon he will receive quite a few offers.
