Kevin McCabe says..................

Pre PL doesn't count I take it? Or the ground being better? Or cheap season tickets for this division. Or appointing Wilder?

Wilder was a god send. Granted!

I'm pretty sceptical about both McCabe and Prince if I'm honest mate. McCabe has done good for us, such as the points you made. However, we have always sold our best players with little reinvested.

Let's not forget, before Wilder came and worked his miracles, we were a club on the slide due to dreadful management at the top.

We really are blessed to have a chairman so committed to our club, he will only go go when it's right for the club first then for him personally.

I agree with much of your sentiment Bill, but McCabe is juggling several balls, and as such he's having to keep both eyes on the many possible problems that could result in each ball falling to the ground. Like most who've commented on here, I'm in the dark regarding the actual facts, but whatever ignited this apparent lack of harmony between Kev and the Prince, I'm hoping that Kev ensures that whoever comes out of this on top has the best interests of the club at heart. It's a pivotal moment for the Blades, so let's hope that Kev is able to provide the positive outcome we're all hoping for.

Can't argue with that but the owners financially stabilised the club at a time they were letting Clough go mad with the cheque book and Adkins just went mad.

What do you think "process commenced" means?
I'm saying it's equally likely to be a reactive, alternative process, not part of the same process as the statement isn't specific.
Not worth arguing about but just noting it may not have been United who instigated the takeover.

That’s what he said about James Beattie, Nick Blackman, Harry Maguire.

Don’t get the McCabe love in, six years in the third tier numerous awful footballing decisions, countless lies told.

But he’s a Blade so gets away with it.
Maybe because even during the worst of times and despite all the criticism he has helped keep us going without resorting to the sort of shenanigans that others ( not too far away from here) have tried to extract some payback from 'their' clubs?
And he's a Blade so he DOES deserve a bit of lee-way :)

They sanctioned the spending in the first place. What alternative did they have? Even Wilder had to work his miracle against a backdrop of cost cutting. There are very few managers who can succeed under those circumstances and even fewer that can do it playing the type of football we did.

Kev's track record at appointing managers isn't exactly stellar, is it? Robson? Jesus, I though he was having some sort of breakdown when I found out the boozehound had been given the job. Mickey Adams? Danny Wilson with his track record of stunning mediocrity.

It's clear to me. SU commenced the process. What else could it mean? They didn't?

But did they commence it at the request of the Prince, or was this done as a “put your money where your mouth is, or get out” exercise by McCabe? It’s fairly unclear at this stage, but the statement is clear that they’re in discussions to transfer full ownership to the Prince, not the other way round. If this was to simply flush out the Prince, the Prince presumably wouldn’t have exercised the option to begin the process of buying the remaining 50%? Unless McCabe is wanting to stay in some sort of Club President role, I find the news that he’s going nowhere surprising.

I'd suggest the options were there in the share agreement and that "commenced the process" means exactly what it says. The "Prince to buy United" headline was the 'sexier" option and more of a sound bite for the media. Personally I can't recall anyone claiming HRH came in with an offer which started negotiations off.

You did "pull me up on it" though....

Yes you've put it better than me. We are all a bit edgy at the moment so it's good to know we have someone who we know has the best interests of our club at heart.

Yes, yes, we all know. But of course that's not what I was arguing. My comment about appointing Wilder was in context to point about timescales and what he had got right rather than his stewardship as a whole.

Yes. Didn't you read the bit about letting the two idiots run riot.

Maybe McCabe said he wants to sell his shares and by agreement HRH has the first option. Fairly standard. Why wouldn't that be starting the whole thing off?

It's likely that they both have, or hope they have, backers, who will sit back, wait for the result and come in and fill their boots. ( Or lose millions)

McCabe has made mistakes chiefly with the managers who have not been good.
He's backed most of them but until Wilder came in they all flounded when the pressure was on.Most were backed by the fans but they in the end wernt up to it.
The amount of money McCabe has put in is astronomical but he's always been let down by his managers and ended up chasing his tail.It came to a point where he felt enough was enough and wanted someone to come in to share the load, enter the prince.
Until Wilder came in he was floundering as well, can't see McCabe ducking out at this point even if he can get his money back.
It would be a waste of 20 years of his life with all the trials and tribulations he and the club have been through.
He's said more than once he's no quiter so I can't see him going at this juncture with the job not finished. It sounds like things are happening but I will be very surprised if he's selling out completely.

McCabe has done good for us, such as the points you made. However, we have always sold our best players with little reinvested.

DESSO cost a few bob.

I wonder what the running costs of the club are every year, even just the academy.

Would we be prepared to pay £ 50 per game if that resulted in the 'investment' that our neighbours have ?

Believe the figure bandied about re: running the academy is £1 million per year...so you’d think it might be actually running on a profit with talent produced and sold on if you choose to look at it that way.

It’s an interesting one re: putting prices up as it’s a small component of a club’s funding these days...the majority coming from owners/tv.

Personally I think t’pigs have dropped a reyt bollock there as the amount raised is relatively small compared to their budget/Chancers input...

I think it’s a little unfair. It was reinvested, just not in transfer fees. If you look at wages, developments, the academy it was definitely reinvested, but not necessarily in the areas everyone would like.

Bob Hatton told me he was going nowhere when I asked him if the rumours of him leaving were true as he signed my scarve.....next day he had signed for another club, cant remember who. True story....

Hear hear!! This is the reasons I’ll keep him at arms length whenever I have met him. If he told me the time id check my watch.

What was the question though?

Shall we all go to Hot Pants?

Fancy a race down Shoreham Street on those yellow Ofo bikes?
