Kevin McCabe on David Brooks

I don't mind McCabe mostly and I think he cops for some unfair flack at times.

But I do wish he'd stop fucking talking.

What a defeatist attitude to have towards keeping your talent. People he employs work bloody hard to develop young players. To hold your hands up and say 'Well what can we do?' shows disrespect to all involved in that process, in my opinion.

Who is responsible for PR/Media at the Lane? Is there somebody that takes overall charge of it?

Maybe Foxy might know, but if it isn't happening it needs to. A bit of control over who says what and when and who to, would be essential in this day and age. Maybe McCabe is a bit old school and doesn't like being told what to say, and wont entertain the idea of a PR briefing before any interviews or statements, but somebody needs to tell him he isn't very good at it.

One of his worst traits is his view it is 'his club'. He is right in so many ways and without the £50+ million he has injected we would be long gone, but he does take liberties some times.

The trouble is he can't win, can he? If we had some smart clever PR director who did all the speaking we'd get cries of 'Where is McCabe and why won't he face us?".

At least he offers a genuine opinion, rather than scripted corporate bullshit. He can make me cringe and I certainly don't like all he says but then fans don't get to pick their owners anywhere, do they.

Doesn't have to be PR always speaking. No reason McCabe can't be out front, but a little advice, steering conversations a bit, a heads up on what not to say. It might get bland and boring and he might get accused of hiding stuff, but he's hardly avoiding the flack and accusations now. As I said I'm not sure he's the type to agree to that sort of direction.

Who would say that though? It's the level of communication people are bothered about, not whose mouth it comes out of.

In a similar case, the dirties across the City have just turned down £1m for George Hirst, young, highly rated, done well for England Youth team, lots of potential. A straight no.

Pains me to say it but that's the way to do it and what we should do with our promising youths coming through

I'd hope even we would laugh off an offer of £1m for Brooks. I hope we'd refuse to negotiate on any opening offer of less than £7m

1 million bid just gone in for thirsty hirsty at the sty from Leicester apparently . The outcome of that could be interesting

If you were the club Chairman and believe within a few years we could easily get £10 million for him
Then would you NOW make him the highest paid player at the club and pay him £20K a week over 4 years?
That's only a 4 million investment for someone worth more than twice that.

It's amazing that someone can be worth over £7 million when he's NEVER played a single a single match in league football. It reminds of the Diego Di Gerolamo situation when many said he'd be a world beater and pay him what he wants. Young players are notoriously inconsistent and need steady careful developement.

The main problem is the massive riches in the PL has filtered down and f**cked up the transfer valuations process. A player like Brooks in the real world is worth £500K, maybe a little more BUT clubs in the PL have so much money that they can waste it and make stupid gambles. So it's not impossible that a PL would offer £10 million for a novice player (Brooks) which huge talent but has done nothing so far. It's madness really.

That's less than DCL then. I'm not surprised they turned it down.

It's already been rejected

Ongoing.

1 year left on his contract .

Dad's already been hawking him around .

Club versus player/daddy power.

Strangely enough I hope the pig's turn every offer they get down and really piss the hirsts off . Another good advert for our Academy .

*** Puts tin hat on *** :D:D

“In many ways [promotion has eased pressure of selling youngsters]. But the truth is until you are back in the Premier League, if a Premier League club comes along and wants one of your players... if someone can give me the answer of how you keep them. I think most supporters realise that our desire is not to sell a David Brooks - obviously a youngster with immense talent - or a Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But when the big dog comes knocking...”

Just say NO - twat

You could buy their academy and everything/everyone in it for £1m. It's wank.

Here's an idea Kev

Copy Charlton and Southend and set a price on him that nobody is willing to pay

Then offer him a new contract, a proper contract, not a contract that is decent for a young kid

Yeah but they've got Hirst , the finest young striker to ever grace the game . They've rejected the ludicrous offer from Leicester just to show us how it's done .

Stupid deluded fucking oinkers think that one player coming through the ranks in God knows how long thats attracted a bid from a bigger and richer club means they've caught us up on the Academy front :D:D:D:D

May as well spend his money on lottery tickets.

Great idea .

And why stop there ?

Offer everyone at the club aged 18 and over that looks half decent a million pounds a year .

That'll teach the bastards.

There's a fans forum coming up on 4th August. I suggest that all those who take issue with what's been said put their grievances to McCabe directly.

I have no strong feeling either way, but raising things to the ownership/management directly when the opportunity arises is a far more productive use of time than merely pouting on a football messageboard.

And for anyone attending, you'll get far more out of McCabe by listening to him rather than telling him what a cunt he is, accusing him of taking money out of the club, or, with no expertise and experience of running a loss making football club, how he should run his business.

If it was all so easy, the extremely wealthy would have bought up every single football club going.

People mention Adams and DCL but forget to mention their hype over DDG and how we should award him with a huge contract. Look at how that turned out. He was the best thing since sliced bread as well. Luckily the club got that one right when so many on here got it very wrong.

Forum talk is cheap and has no financial implications whatsoever.

I'd argue they got it wrong with DDG. They should have listened to Clough and bombed him out instead of giving him another contract under Adkins. Complete waste of money.

Been there done that. all that will happen is what happened previously a lot of truisms about "no bigger Blade" "Premier League Ambitions" yadda yadda... ending up in a round of applause and pats on the back for Kev and threats and comments for those trying to ask the big questions such as "don't go then" or "go shopping on a Saturday if your not happy" from boozed up clappers.

I am posting this from poolside in the land of the free so logging off again before this thread ruins my holiday mood..

Actually what tends to happen is that the critics listen to what he says then either mumble under their breath or queue up to shake his hand. The only boozed up element is usually some arsehole, usually the same one, shouting out all the time. In short, what you've said is a load of bollocks.
