Kevin McCabe: Another big, big opportunity

Of course, there are no legitimate "excuses" for not signing 'X' because all players are on a shelf waiting to simply be purchased like a trip round Tescos :)

His life is much easier when he is moaning about not being able to sign the right type of player. I believe you and plenty of others I'm sure, agree with him when he pleads poverty and blames the agents, whereas I and thousands of Blades think he is saying he hasn't got the ability to spot a bargain and turn him into a top CCC player.

If someones job looks easy, then there are only two possibilities.

1. It is easy
2. It is being done by a talented professional who makes it look so.

Being on the check-out at Asda is easy. Sweeping the road is easy. I suspect that being a football manager requires a bit more than that...

Bet Wardy's not best pleased if he reads that.

I don't think I said he makes the job look easy - the exact opposite is what I meant.

Why do you think I said that he makes the job look easy?

Blackwell says 'I thought I had McIndoe/Smith etc etc but was let down by agents and our lack of financial muscle.' Well, why not go for players we can definitely afford? I think the answer is because he is a shite manager who can't improve players.

He makes the job look impossible to me, when the fabulous budgets he has been presented with he has made life very difficult for himself with pathetic signings and perhaps Speed excepted a joke back room team

That Duncs is an outrageous slur on plenty of hard-working people.

And so it begins.
Sad that any fan would already be looking to find excuses for anything remotely resembling a repeat of what happened last year.
Let's not go down that road again or start finding excuses for going down that road.
We know we need a lot of players, we've known what league we're going to be in for several weeks.
Let's show some determination about getting organised and get it done.

Who do you think we should sign lenners?

No idea, not thought about it.
But I do know we have highly paid professionals at our club who either do or should know.
It's as much about McCabe as Blackwell but I really see next season as potentially our last chance for several years.
Fucking about like we did last summer is not an option if we're serious about next season.

I haven't even got the energy to properly reply to be honest, it's pretty pointless.

I'm not looking to find any excuses, merely stating that it isn't as simple as many seem to think and make out.

Still, never mind, if he can't simply go out and buy whatever player he wants, for whatever money he wants, he's a useless liar.

If only we had one of the hundreds of other managers who just click their fingers and make their required players magically arrive.

Foxy, we had this kind of guff trotted out by the usual suspects last year, throughout the summer, beyond the deadline, into the loan window, into the second transfer window, into the second loan window.
No-one is saying it is easy.
But equally there is no room for those excuses this time round, not if we're serious.
If people like your goodself are looking for excuses for a lack of signings in August we'll know the club are not serious about promotion.

I agree, but its only early May. Should we not give them a break, and wait & see what happens? The majority of signings, assuming we are predominantly going to be in the market for Bosmans, are unlikely to happen before 30th June, when players come out of contract.

Nick has got a point. You all know how critical I've been of the management of late, but we can't make decisions just yet. Lenners is right to say we need action to be completed by August, but we should relax for the moment. This is for a few reasons:

- the players and coaching staff will be going on holiday. They'll be off for at least 2 weeks and hence I wouldn't expect us to start looking at brining anyone in until the start of June.
- if we are on a tight budget then (as Nick J points out) we'll be looking mostly at free transfers. If so then we have to wait until the contract expires which will be at some point during the summer (i.e. June/July time).
- McCabe/Birch and KB have yet to have their 'talk' about next season yet and hance KB's future is undecided. It seems unlikely, but there could be a chnage at the helm and this will obviously have an impact on transfer dealings.

I will not accpet excuses at the start of next season, but I will give the club some time. I'll start forming my opinion at some point in June/July and sure it up well before August.

'Useless liar' - like that one Foxy, alot. Very apt description. Short and to the point, just like obnoxious plank or pathetic joke, but I prefer yours to be honest.

I'm slightly disappointed I must say that you think I believe it is easy to sign decent, or - more to the point now - potentially decent, footballers. For the avoidance of doubt, I don't. What I believe is Blackwell has an awful record where signings are concerned and cannot improve a player.

You've also got to say it isn't entirely on the board and management. If the fans want to the club to maximise this opportunity then they need to also do their bit and buy their season tickets.

We would be in a stronger position if we broke 20,000 ST holders this season which would give the club the base to achieve. I think it is all too easy to ask the owners to commit financially to something that a lot of fans won't buy into. If you agree with Len's sentiments about consolidating our position then you have to back this up with more than words.

First time I haven't bought one since 1976.

Len is right, now is the time. Sadly we have a wank manager (whatever the apologists might scream) and he will make sure this opportunity is wasted.
Two years of his kind of negativity is way too much for me to "buy into" for another season. If that stops the owners doing so then "so be it". They've stuck by the twat, let them live with it.

I admire your resolve Grecian. For all my moaning about Blackwell and the club and saying 'no way will I be renewing...' - I bloody renewed yesterday. I blame the euphoria of Sunday to be honest, I was swept up in the feel-good factor and before I knew it, I was pouring my hard earned into Big Mac's Overseas Property Fund (sigh). A fool and his money eh...?
