Gage was good, but in the long run Saturdays wouldn't be the same without Keith Edwards as the co-commentator, miserable git though he is at times. I look forward to welcoming him back and hearing about his dodgy hip.

But I’m a little confused between the comments made by Kevin Gage during the match and the comments made by many posters on the match day thread.

Middlesbrough: we played very well, they profited from our mistakes not their good play, never seen a team play as well as us and not win.

Bournemouth: we were by for the better team, bad refereeing and one loss of concentration cost us three points, should have won 2 or 3 nill.

Our Fans; we are wank, mid table at best, blah blah, blah.

I don’t have an actual point to make, but it seems like we are watching different matches.

So in short, as far as match analysis goes, most fans are over emotional and completely full of shit. That's the reality, unfortunately.

Having watched the game, I think Kevin Gage was, let's say, generous in his assessment of our performance against Middlesbrough.

I understand we may have been the better team overall against Bournemouth, however we can't defend for toffee and certainly can't defend a lead.

Yes fair comment.

But if you take performances in to consideration, I’m not sure we are that far off and would expect us to climb the table in the coming months rather than slide down it !!

Hopefully a more balanced response to our game by game results than the average bet wetter who simply can’t see beyond individual results and either throws toys out pram after a defeat or shouts from the rooftops after a win.

Gage is clueless. Who knew? If you've seen SUTV live this would've become obvious a while back. Edwards divides opinion because he paints an objective, unvarnished picture. Warts and all. We were abject against Boro and shaded the Bournemouth game.We've been poor for most of the season. The rest is wishful thinking.
Fans, in my experience, want to be told their team is better than they are. An attack on the quality of football, players or management is often twisted into an attack on the club. United look a long way of automatics which isn't acceptable given the resources and the quality at our disposal. Make all the excuses you want...
