Partly I think it's the illusion of choice and abundance. When I was growing up I didn't have youtube or Sky so when football was on it was a treat.I never know whether it's just the result of getting older, or whether top level football has got much more boring now than 10/20/30 years ago. If I watch a premier league game now, unless I have an emotional connection to it, I pretty much always find it dull even if it's the top teams playing. Whereas when I was younger, I would watch pretty much all the football I could, regardless of quality or the teams that were playing.
So much of what drew me to football in the first place has gone, crunching tackles, wingers who could beat a man and cross a ball, big centre forwards who were great in the air, the clash of styles between physical teams and technical teams. No-one dreams as a kid about playing out from the back and keeping possession at all costs do they? They dream of beating 3 men and smacking it in the top corner from 30 yards.
Now it's everywhere and there's definitly over saturation. I remember being glued to the radio for games, now I struggle not to check my phone every 5 seconds if it's on the telly.
Definitly got a point in the second paragraph though. Love a bit of physicality and that's now being taken away.
