Occasionally he will hark back to his day - and that can get a bit tiring. And occasionally he'll go off at a tangent and talk about something else, like the pie he's just had, or the journey to the game. And that's a bit distracting when you just want to know who's kicking the bloody ball and what's happening on the pitch.
That's the problem I find. I don't mind if there's a break in play but it happens a lot more than that and it does put me off, particularly in a game I'm on edge about when I just want to know what's actually happening in the sodding game.
That said it's the job of the commentator to interrupt the pundit when things are happening in the game and they don't seem to do that very often.
