I may not get much support on this thread but this is my honest opinion.
Accepted that a summariser gives his opinion on the game I think Edwards is far too critical of blades performances. It's always it s this it should be that but rarely gives credit where due, colchester is a good example.3 away games in a week with the first against man utd in a big big FA cup game with the mental and physical demands incurred. Followed by a tough game (Wigan) away with a remarkable 3-3 draw also a very demanding game.I wasn't at Colchester but it sounded like a team that in the 2nd half was running on empty(under them circumstances a great win).As Edwards is an ex pro he would be expected to show some insight as to the demands these three games brought,No!! he was not very complimentary and lucky to win.,very disappointed in him..
In my book the summariser should support the club ,I don't think Edwards does (yes give a fair assessment but be positive) is he in it just for the cash,it would be great if he got excited when we score or win a match
a supporter would react he doasnt (that big goose who pigs nicknamed bamby goes berserk when they score a bit of that would be great). He doasnt have the passion of a supporter could radio sheffield find one
(or could we recommend one).
It might sound as though I don't like Edwards but I don't know him as a person so I can't comment on that,
but he was a great scorer for us and I enjoyed his time playing for us.
finlaytheblade if anything Edwards was quite pissed off when we scored. Not what you'd expect from a Blades biased summariser, right?
However, i think theres more to it. He's watched us for years, notably he followed us week in week out under Warnock and whilst he wasn't Warnock's biggest fan he saw that Warnock and Blackwell got the basics right
- Passion
- Organised
- Physical
- Grafters
In the main, Warnock's side tried its best to ensure we defended set pieces, at least tried to be creative with set pieces and had men that could cross the ball, Central midfielders who were all rounders (Tonge, Jags, Brown and even Monty). Defenders were no nonsense, so were attackers.
I seem to remember at the time that his biggest gripe was that we didn't play pretty enough, nor did we get it on the deck.
Since then we've had
Robson - Unorganised, tried to play football. Generally shite
Blackwell - Started well, Organised, Physical, Passionate, Grafters, but were only OK
Speed - Not there long enough
Adams - Edward's mate, shite
Wilson - Still reeling from his mate getting sacked, but got us playing properly and winning.
Weir - Shite
Clough - Organised, Passion, bit of graft, not physical nor exciting, but got some decent results, but ultimately got some shite results. Cup runs put a smile on Edwards face
Adkins - Came with such a reputation, but has proved no better and no worse than Clough.
However, Colchester was a game that Edwards thought that a side going for promotion (apparently thats us) should be not just winning, but dominating.
I really see Edwards point, not sure he has an agenda except he wants perfection. Sadly in this division we're not going to get it. I think edwards expected so much more from Adkins, like the rest of us... Sadly instead of being excellent, he's just ok. That to me is Edwards issue.
