You've got your maths a bit twisted there. The sell-on will be a percentage - for instance if the sell on is 25% and he's sold for £4m City would get £1m.
Combined with the buy-back clause, this means that if he's sold to City for £4m they will actually pay only £3m. If they then sell him for £6 they've made £3m profit, less fees.

I meant if we sold him to someone else for £6m, they (Man City) would get £1.5m. I assume their buy back fee (e.g. £4m) would already account for the sell-on bit, so my maths was spot on! :p

I nominate this thread for the furthest descent into farce ever!

I cant see Citeh coming back in to ‘buy back’ Br-yan’ ( is that right?) this season...he must be a reyt player if so...

It's a long way off but I'm wondering what happens if another club bids for him and we accept. I imagine that City would get first option at the agreed price but if they didn't want him, would we still be obliged to hand over the value of the buy back clause from any fee that we'd get?

I'm not that bothered at the moment because we haven't actually paid anything for him but if he stays and his value increases as he gets better, then we will have invested in him.
My understanding is that IF we decide to sell, Man Citeh have first dibs at the agreed price. Simples......err.......I think. o_O

Yeah its turned from a well done sufc and CW into a "ormagued wat if citeh want 2 buy im back" doom thread.

For now can't we just enjoy the moment?
No, we’ve shot our load and we’re now wondering if it’s too soon to call a taxi.

Absolutely love it... we get a potentially very exciting youngster from one of the best academies in the country FOR FREE and some blades still have a problem with the deal!

Listened to the snippet of his first interview on YouTube and he seems like a decent lad that has his feet on the ground. He also used to be No 10 for Citeh U23’s... if he comes good and nails down that LWB position
JB absolutely,... it could be the signing of the summer as far as I'm concerned. stringjunior is already waiting at Stockport station to get his autograph..

Messy how? If an agreement is already in place as a buy-back clause it’s extremely mess-free, and extremely simple.

If City want him back they can down value him, we obviously won't be able to stand in his way because he'll want to go
So his lower valuation, plus City's cut might mean we end up with very little

On the other hand if we sell to Man Utd then City will want us to get the best price possible so that their cut is higher

In all probability Man City won't want him back. For the money he will probably move on for in the future it will probably either not instigate the clause inserted or they will probably not be arsed with the few bob it might make an.in getting him back as they are seriously minted.

They will only bother to get him back if he is either a future international and then financially it makesmsenae for them to get interested in him again, or if they think he can add to their squad. The chances are he will have a fine career at the Lane, and will probably never be in Man City's sights again. They have just insur3d themselves by inserting 'what if' clauses just in case he becomes a world beater. As someone mentioned above, they must think he has a lot of potential though which is great for us. I honestly think this is a great deal for us.

One point is that if City are due a fair chunk of any future transfer fee then there will be less incentive to sell if/when the other clubs come calling?

I understand the discussion on the sell on fee..

But for today it would be nice if we just enjoyed the fact we’ve got potentially a great player for free.... what a great piece of business this is on the back of woodburn.

The striker though.. this is top priority....

Just seen we sent Tyler smith on loan.... hope there’s a recall as you’re gonna see some goals from him at that level...

Brooke’s money. Dear oh dear. Semi-literate estate agent leeches really ought not to bring attention to themselves in the guise of professional “Wilder’s mate”.

T’wit needs to wind his neck in on politics as well. At least until he’s a little more widely read than the Daily Mail.

Sorry Half, you’ll be buying and selling no bricks for me.

A bit of a low blow that.

It’s an interesting one. I wonder what the deal says about the player’s choice, or how far into the contract the buyback option can be triggered.

Hypothetically, if he has a season that puts him in the Brooks bracket, City could have a bargain next summer. But even if that happens he won’t be looking at first team football - City would probably loan him out to see if he can get nearer to their level. In the player’s shoes I might want to go permanently to a lesser prem side on a bigger fee and progress that way.

Ed - whatever happens this deal looks very low risk to us.

Any news on the groundsman yet?concerned for the desso!

If Man City, one of the world's best teams want him back he's going to be one hell of a player.

Not sure that's the case.

City are slowly creeping into the Chelsea model, loaning and reselling players at a profit. This year they've signed Philippe Sander, last year they signed Ola Kayode, Luka Ilic and Jack Harrison - it's highly unlikely that any of these players will ever play for city: they've been bought to be sold on.

They sold Aaron Mooy last year and they'll likely sell Patrick Roberts this year.

The verbatim quotes from Wilder's interview about Bryan:

"He plays left back, he plays left centre half..."

and then:

"He plays left midfield, technically very good, good pace, aggressive and wants to come to us..."

Slightly different to what was reported, and interesting to note what order he states the positions. Makes me even more hopeful that he'll play LWB - and that we've got an excellent prospect.

All the top clubs have been that way for a while. There was a Dario Gradi article about six or seven seasons back now about it (that I can no longer find) where he said something like "Some people think it's great when you get a young loanee from Man U but what they forget is that twenty years ago I'd have signed him for free and had all the profits of a sale if he was any good". The loan system screw you twice. You pay for a player that would be better off as a free agent and then you don't profit from the successes. Don't get me wrong, there's some great value to be had in the loan market, but for the most part it plays into the hands of the richer teams.

Its pretty obvious that this transfer deal is a bespoke model where Citeh's main consideration is United's track record. If he is any good then the inevitability is he will be sold on for big bucks in the shortest possible time and by doing it this way Citeh will still be pulling the strings. What confuses me though is why didn't they just loan him out instead of going through all this palaver?

Seems very strange for him to not have any game time at all when there’s been opportunities a plenty to play some sort of game time, especially if it’s only fitness being the issue.

Wilder only recently said in an interview!
Kean Bryan has some kind of bug maybe if fans listened to his interview s they would be more in the know.He tries to keep us in the loop
I’ve not heard about that Finlay because I don’t get chance or time to listen to his interviews but if that is the case how long has he had this bug for?
