To be fair when Dave78 said number 1 target, my initial feeling was Adkins.
I maybe wrong but can't understand why he wouldn't be with him achieving numerous
promotions at this level and being out of work.
Just cannot see how someone who took 5 years to get out once would be more of a target.

Yet again this is the SUFC board we are talking about.

Robinson may want a new challenge and does not want the comfort zone . Mk Dons are reaching there peak .

SUFC are more than a challenge , a big club in name only with a great fan base . A poison chalice , who some managers wouldn't touch with a barge pole . Our Jim Phipps can sell the dream , like selling sand to the arabs.

SUFC , a managers grave yard , but a place were plenty will want to come . Some bonkers , bad , average , but we still have pulling power. Spend big money and we will get the right man.

don't think he will come BOS - we are now a club who sacks managers and although there are plenty of ex footballers who fancy themselves at management, Robinson probably now has 4 years with MK Dons to get them out of the Championship. The fuzzy haired MK Dons chairman seems to have a special bond with Robinson.

Surprised Graham Alexander at Fleetwood hasn't had much of a mention - done well on a limited budget at Fleetwood and to get them to the edge of the Championship is no mean job.

If he's to believed, it's GOT TO be a free agent if there's a possibility of getting him as early as Thursday/Friday

Alexander is more defensive than Clough !

And why isn't Sheffield a major city?
Are you one of our country cousins ?

No, I'm most definitely a city boy... born in Rotherham to Sheffield parents who moved us back to Sheffield when I was 4 and consider myself Sheffielder entirely.

Sheffield is a big (ish) city by UK standards, but it's not "major". It's not in anyway considered important or major by anyone from outside Sheffield in the UK, and is barely even known about abroad.... and this is a subject we could debate for days, but the general evidence supports the view that Sheffield is a declining, unimportant, decreasingly significant, insular, inward looking, economic backwater... it just has a lot of people here still.

You could indeed be correct and looking at the size of Fleetwood and the progress they have made is quite spectacular. Of course, they could do a Yeovil (and for the ones that remember Carlisle) but Alexander, like Rowett (ex Burton, now Birmingham) just seem sensible ex players who seem to have the ability to be a man manager.

There isn't a single manager who is ideal for Sheff Utd, bet there are certainly worse attributes than being defensive - the old adage - don't concede, don't lose.

I like you are only after getting out of the useless, pathetic third tier. We fully deserve to be here, but we do not belong here and if a defensive styled manager can get us out then so be it.

Did you actually see the Blades v Fleetwood game (March time was it?) - they went at us, scored a couple of decent goals and then shut the shop up - for me it was just a good, tactical away performance, masterminded by Alexander.

Big Sam was among one of the highest paid managers in the Premier league, reputedly earning over £3m a year.

Not sure we can afford that.

Dave78 on bm says some good news on Thursday or Friday. That person is the number 1 target also, my gut feeling is Robinson just because of how close he was before Clough and that he got MK up last season.
Although i respect Dave78 and is accurate most of the time, why hasn't he put £200 on
the person if he knows, to make the odds go to like 1/15 or something.

I guess anything could happen, might not be in a position job wise to place bets on Sheffield United affairs. Did say he can't say the exact name and him purposely shortening the odds could influence his ITK source to not tell him further info. I do believe him, just want it to come out so I can look forward to next season!

With regards Clough -

Clough created another stir with negotiating to bring in Barker and Eustace from Derby , although good players , both are injury prone . Perhaps it is this , what was the final straw , that broke the camels back , on player recruitment , with the board .

UTB
If this is true, then I can understand this. I cringed last week when I read the Star reporting that Clough wanted to bring in Shaun Barker who hasnt played competitive footbal for two or three years

I'm not getting into that old debate.
But I love my city never would bring it down
However your concluding comments have no substance.

Unfortunately I did have the pleasure. I hear a lot about Alexander and believe me, as soon as they go on a bad run, he'll be hounded out as Micky Mellon was before him. They are doubtlessly punching above their weight and I think they'll tumble down and out again, particularly if their illustrious benefactor disappears. They were there for the taking if we'd gone at them both home and away and that, in a nutshell, is why Clough has gone IMO.

When I'm outside Sheffield I'm forever bleating on to people how good it is... I love it too (or parts of it), it's why i live here. But my fellow citizens do need a reality check from time to time. And the substance to my comments comes from my experience of which there's plenty (and would be the content of the debate that could last days which neither of us wants to bother with).

yep, don't disagree about Clough. He gave clubs like Fleetwood too much respect. Perhaps at the end of the day "our" players were just ........shit, or mainly shit with just a few exceptions.

Whoever we get it will divide the fans - I didn't want Wilson - just far too average - Wier seemed ok (good tutelage with Moyes) and Clough again seemed ok.

I don't envy the person making the decision and no doubt some on here will no doubt blame McCabe the second the announcement is made, even though he may not be involved in the choice.

I think the scrutiny on the decision is going to be like nothing before.
Everybody losing a little bit of patience i think.

Yep but at the end of the day, they'll support anyone if they do the business. Wilson was about as controversial as it could have been and he won the fans round with attacking football and results and the same will happen whoever picks up the chalice, hopefully :)

Sounds a lot like any of the northern cities to be honest. But more than any other that description sounds like Liverpool rather than Sheffield.

The one and only magic word above is "IF". Yes we will get behind a manager, but whoever it is, has 6 months peace before fans get at him if results aren't virtually immediate

We presently have numerous players signed by Clough on contracts - we don't need a manager with new ideas, we need a manager who can actually make "any" player better than he was before. Examples: how do we make Murphy better, Baxter - how to make him consistent, stop scoogs running around like a headless chicken and create some end result.

Gary Rowett immediately made the Birmingham team better - someone down at the Lane needs to find that person for us.

As for Wilson, he never won me round - his record before us was average to poor and we should avoid those types of managers.

I think if you asked people from say, the south or Scotland, Wales etc ... which one of these is a major city: Liverpool or Sheffield. I'm pretty sure Sheffield would NOT be the answer you'd get.

Neither are major cities but one is certainly more insular than any other city in the UK.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the answer, but I bet they couldn't answer the follow up question of "why?"
