Tbf Soumare's first instinct is usually to go forward because he's chasing his first touch
lol this is so true , I do I like Soumare tho when he does play well we look fantastic, he spreads the ball so well in mostly forward passes , lovely to watch, but he needs to work on control and consistency !!

He looked better than I expected him to be.
Don't know how many minutes he can do yet. Once he gets to be able to do 70mins wanna see him starting.

It shows how much I know. I was convinced he wouldn't be anywhere near the squad for a couple of weeks or so.

Even half fit he looked a class above. Super pass for the first goal and very calm under pressure from 2 Boro players at times. If he or Jairo starts that game fully fit, I think we win.

Could be a very clever signing.

boro were brilliant but we lost that game because we didnt have a genuine defensive midfielder on the pitch till phillips came on thought he did well but i was really dissapointed with rothwells challenge i had great hopes for him

Boro a bit fortunate to face a midfield today with only one match fit midfielder.
Different story when Jairo is back and Phillips up to speed.

For sure, him and Peck in CM with Brooks and Hamer right and left.
Him n Rothwell peck from the bench he was poor tonight once we had rothwell ( for a bit ) n Phillips it changed the flow of the game if not for the sending off we could very easily have
scored again
And yes Boro best team in the division reminded me of Leeds n Sunderland here last season

He was our shining light tonight. Hope he can continue like that and be an inspiration to our younger players. I had my doubts about him but he quickly made them disappear. Let’s think about the positives tonight.

He wants to come back 🤦‍♂️

It's gone about as badly as I expected
Started well, looked decent in his debut. Shocker of a red, really no idea what he was thinking.

Not been seen since - served his ban and presumably now he's injured.

I like the way he plays, but, like with Tom Davies, if he can't stay fit or can't avoid getting red cards, then he's no use to us.

If we could get him playing 75% of 75% of games then he'd be a cracking player to bring back. Otherwise he's a waste of a signing

Absolutely. If we could get Phillips and Davies available for 75% of 75% games, we'd be promoted by Christmas.

However, top level sport is defined by the best type of ability is availa- bility just as the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour...

So we can sit back and wax lyrical about what ifs and 92 points....

It’s the old adage that if they could both keep themselves fit they wouldn’t be playing for us.

Davies I think we know is never going to be fit for more than a handful of games. So I think it’s certainly time to move him along.

Can Philips keep himself available? Huge question mark for me. He certainly did it at Leeds a long time ago. He’s managed to play 46 games since signing for city in 2022. Admittedly this was partly due to him never being good enough for city but at Ipswich, West Ham and now with us, he’s been not had a great record

Phillips would be a waste of time.
I didn't mind the January punt when we had to try and pull a rabbit out of a hat to go on crazy form to challenge for the play-offs... but as a Summer signing to be relied upon over a full season? The proof was in the pudding from the loan wasn't it?

Played a couple of OK games (not outstanding), stupid suspension, long term injured...

Taking a fit Kalvin Phillips on a season long loan with City paying the lions share of his wages would be a no-brainer.

Google searches show he’s currrently on £150,000 a week.

Next season we have none of the £45 million (2025 rate) or £35 million (2026 rate) parachute payments……on a financial level we’ll become a mid table club.
What’s an average Championship wage…would you say £12,000 a week?

I would suggest the highest we can afford for a loan player is about £25,000 a week.
Really doubt Man City would let him join us where we pay £25K an week and they pay £125K a week.

No club will offer him anywhere near £150K a week.

It’s an interesting one.

He’s under contract at Man City until 2028 (until he’s 32), so he can either choose to rot in the reserves picking up £7 million a season gross
Or he can turn his back on millions and choose to play in the Championship on about £20K a week.

To be fair can anyone blame him staying at City…..he’s kind of trapped.

Probably very true but they are stuck with him until 2028. He will go on loan somewhere next season so I suppose it depends who pays the most of his wages...
